I put the mods onto a disc and i put the disc into my 360 and then what? do i turn on oblivion and they work or what?
freddycashmercury
Sorry to dissapoint you, but mods only work for the PC version of Oblivion. You can only download official content from the Xbox Live Marketplace if you have the 360 version.

Short answer "no." Long answer "yes" if the game maker made a mod and released it on disc, then you could get it without buying it on marketplace.

Hey Guys we gotta get this thread moved to the correct sub forum.

Standby for the Jump.

Contacting the Bridge…

Yes, WoogieMonster is correct, and please note that even if Bethesda did this, it would still leave you unable to put mods made by the people on this site onto your 360. So sorry to dissapoint you. huh.gif

BTW, I'm ready for the jump, Stormraven! biggrin.gif

a bit of thread necromancy
i was wondering if its absolutly impossible to place mods or have mods developed for the xbox 360 version of oblivion if there is a hard drive presetn after all shivering isles and knights of the nine are nothing more then mod files residing on my 360's 20 gig hd
or is it just a waste of effort and time writing an installer script to deal with the 360 let alone instal i ton the hd and have it play nice is wayy to much to ask for
im asking this because there are extensive mods made for morrowind and obblion such as ooo and the one that adds the regions of morrowind and morrowind game play abilities to the game of oblivion whos ename eludes me for the moment
neither of which are basic mods

unfortunaly i think the console gamers are left out in the cold with this one even if consoles are starting to use hd's

Currently not possible. The operating systems are different. You would have to completely rewrite every mod to work, assuming you could get them into the 360 to begin with. Also, the 360, as with other consoles is a locked system. The manufacturer does not want you to put anything on it that you did not buy from them. Any changes, such as an unauthorized mod (That they don't get paid for) will void the warranty,

The console is not designed to do the things a PC does. It does one thing only and that fairly well. It plays games. A PC does many things, some better than others. Its actually a pretty fair game machine, but it takes more tinkering than a console to make it work. However, it was designed as a programming machine - to write programs on. And that is where a PC beats the consoles.

As a game machine, a console is much more stable. While a PC is more versitle. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

If you want to just play games, get a console. If you want to play WITH games get a PC.

figured as much cant hurt to ask
and if you want to do both get both
i got oblivion for the pc to fiddle with mods
and oblivion to play for my 360
stil it would be a lot easier ( not too mention cheaper) if it were possibly
yeah if only

The only possibility requires breaking several international laws. You can probably blame those people who thought it funny to install Linex on their Xbox (the first ones) for the more complicated limiters on what you can actually put on your Xbox without having to do anything too illegal.

The Mods themselves are the other side of this. Mods for the 360 (and PS3) are specially formatted to work with those systems. Since the process for converting to this format is something which only Bethsoft has access to, and any attempt to reverse engineer it would likely break a few laws, even if you could install a mod, you couldn't actually use it.

For all I know, the official console mods may have additional requirements as the formatting of data files (bsas) that would prevent even overwrites from working should you be able to apply them.

So in short. No. Not going to ever happen. Just another reason to hate cross platform games. I don't even think hex editors (cheat devices) can be used for the 360 now that I think about it. And they were once a staple of console gaming.

i am blaming the linux people

hex editors were unable to be used on the orginal xbox as well ther are only save disks availble
i did wonder about why the xbox was lacking in said cheat cd's guess i have my awnser

i dont belive reverse engineering it would be entirley illegal as long as the new code is clean and only aproximates what the orginal code does with out copying said code then again after linux was put on the first xbox things did get tightend down

anyway hard drives are becoming the norm on consoles so in a next generation it might be possible or even a feature but from the sound of it not in this one
it could give sony or ms a big one up over the compeition if they do make it availble

just out of idle curiosity i assume its utterly impossible to instal linux or mac os x ( powerpc hardware not intel based hardware) on the 360

I believe it's still possible, google might hold answers, but harder to do, and would probably keep things from working right.
