where do you think tes v will be set?

i've got a hunch that it'll be in Akavir and Morrowind.
Reason 1. In the book, Mysterious Akavir, one Akaviri leader
lists his things to do, which are kill the tsaesci and invade Tammriel.
Reason 2. The Pale Pass quest was probably the most detailed miscellaneous quest
in Oblivion, maybe Bethesda's practicing for TES 5?
Reason 3. One of the rumours NPCs say to each other is, " The Nerevarine has gone
on an expedition to Akavir, and has not been heard from since" Maybe they captured
them as a hostage?
ninja_lord666
1. Those books have been around long before Oblivion.
2. That is very debatable. There are many more quests that are more detailed. Also, why would Bethesda "practice" anyway? They already know everything. Saying that they need to "practice" for TES V is probably one of the stupidest things I've ever read.
3. There's no possible way to have the Nerevarine in TES V. It's not possible for Bethesda to use whatever character the player used in TES III, and if Bethesda creates their own version of the Nerevarine in TES V, then TES III will instantly loose all depth and character development, and for anyone who's played TES III, the game will become meaningless. The most they could do for that is have a skeleton named Nerevarine, but that would imply the Nerevarine dieing.

My theory is that it'll take place in a few of the other provinces. With the death of Martin, the Empire will loose its grip on them, and they'll revolt. The Imperial Legion outposts in the provinces will be ambushed and slaughtered. Then, the provinces will all go to war with each other for dominance to establish a new Empire. The game will probably take place later in the war after several of the provinces have already been taken over leaving just two or three left. That way Bethesda won't have to make all of them. This would be a great time for Akavir to attack, but the internal struggle will most likely prevent any outside offensive.
Jonlissla
It would be nice to visit Elsewyr (sp?), or perhaps The Black Marshes (argonian homeland?).
And it would be nice if they changed them as well, because they look FAR too human in Oblivion.
Plus, adding some armours that would cover their tails would be nice too.

BTW, don't we already have a thread for this?

Skyrim...
Abramul
They did a pretty good job leaving their options open. The only provinces I don't remember hearing rumors of unrest about are Hammerfell and High Rock, and I'm not sure of those.
}{ellKnight
I've read an article (long time ago) that claimed that Beth reserved the rights of a website called Skyrim... although I admit I have my doubts about the veracity of said rumor.

That's true, but it was found on the official forums that Bethesda filed a copyright (instead of a domain name) for the name of Skyrim as the next Elder Scrolls game. I went back to U.S. Copyright office just today to find it again and and it wasn't there this time around - so something between then and now has changed. I'm pretty sure I saw the listing myself when it was first discovered in that thread a while ago, so this has left me pretty confused. Personally I'm hoping for either Akavir or Summerset Isle, both of which have great room for original content (notably the Tsaesci for the former and the Psiijics in the latter.)

Where's Akavir? I know they're extinct, and they're definately not in tha maps.

BTW, has anyone noticed that Tamriel is just one, big, huge continent, like Pangea? In that case, there might be other continents out there....

... Christopher Columbus, here I come! biggrin.gif

Who is extinct? Neither the Tsaesci or the other races from Akavir are extinct to my knowledge. Anyway, if you visit the Cartography section of The Imperial Library you'll quickly discover that the major non-Tamriellic landmasses are Akavir, Atmora (neither pictured since they are too far off from the continent), Pyandonea, and Yokuda. The Thrassian islands are very small but very significant as the Sloads that live there nearly wiped out the entire population of Tamriel - they lost a great deal of people due to the diseases they bring with them. You can read about them and the other lands beyond Tamriel in the "Other Lands" section of The Pocket Guide to the Empire. Finally, here's a good map that shows some of those locations.

Well, it's funny you mention Columbus as some of those landmasses were the home of the Tamriellic races only to be left and/or abandoned, so their Columbuses landed on Tamriel, not the other way around. Thras, as I said, has a history with the people on the mainland, as well as Akavir to a significant degree (invasions by and of them, multiple times.) All those Asian influences in Morrowind and Oblivion? Those are akaviri, mostly from the Tsaesci (snake-people - its been so long since they were seen by anyone scholars can't figure out if they actually looked like snakes or just described as snakes in metaphor very often.) Katanas and all those good things, and Cloud Ruler Temple as I believe they point out in the main quest, all come from them. There's already a rich history there waiting to be tapped, which is why I hope we get to go there in the next game.
Jonlissla
Nice map! Hope we get to visit all those islands, IF they make a sequel (which I believe they will, someday).
}{ellKnight
Well, the next TES game might be released earlier than we think so I'm quite worried that we'll get an unfinished game because of MikeySoft's greed glare.gif
BHWolf
What sort of time scale do you envisage?
}{ellKnight
Normally I would expect a 5 year period between one release and the next but seeing how MS is so keen on elevating it's console to "best thing since the invention of the wheel" status consoles might see TES 5 around 2009.

That's very unrealistic. How is Bethesda supposed to make two games in one year? They aren't working on TES V and won't work on it until Fallout 3 is done.
}{ellKnight
ninja_lord666
I did, and there's nothing in there explaining how Beth will make two games in one year.

I'm hoping for Akavir

If there are Akaviri on tamriel (raiders) I would be fine with those additions but if the story transpires in Akavir, I would be killed.

Why would that be, hmm? I wouldn't mind going to the Akaviri continent, since there a quite a few books in TES that keep mentioning Akavir.

Akavir has not been iluminated very much. It is still a very mysterious and often trepidatious place and I maintain in my humble opinion that it should be kept this way (for now at least). Also, Oblivion left a large gap for a variety of events to transpire so until these many questions are answered and the gaps filled with more enticing story lines, we may want to lay off on Akavir. Not to mention we may run into the nevarine if we go to Akavir right away which would in turn kill morrowind yucky.gif.

Of course, it's any body's guess as to where BethSoft will stage the next installment of TES - it could be in Hammerfell, or Summerset Ilses, or even back in Daggerfall for all we care. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Hammerfell in full 3D, even if it is smaller than Cyrodiil.

As far as it being an MMO goes, precedent suggests that TES 5 will not be. Of course, it's perfectly possible that the next Elder Scrolls game will not be 5.
rob_b
You're quite right - now that you mention it, I can now see there being an actual shadow of a TES MMO being a possibility. It doesn't have to fit in with the single-palyer series, it could just be something else altogether (as is the case with the main Resident Evil continuity and Resident Evil Outbreak)
Lord Slyther
Would be nice if I visited Elsweyr. I think Skyrim's in Bloodmoon.

Solstheim is in Bloodmoon which is an island apart of the Skyrim Province, just like Vvardenfell is a [large] island apart of the Morrowind Province.

Not if they do something creative, like make the Nerevarine transfigured in some way. Dagoth Ur certainly didn't start out looking like a mummy in a tiki mask. For all we know, TES V might be about an Akiviri invasion, and the Nerevarine aligning with the Akiviri in order to crush the wounded empire. And you're charged with the task of gaining allies in the fight. Afterall, Bethsoft owes us a real invasion damnit.

Solsthiem is part of yet not part of Morrowind (like the way Puerto Rico is administered but not really governed by USA). Vvardenfell is actually a district of Morrowind.

I thought at first it was Skyrim. Because of the winter climate in Bloodmoon, now I know it's Solstheim. I'm really hoping for Elsweyr.... whistling.gif

On whether the next game should be multiplayer - I feel that a MMO Elder Scrolls would greatly undermine the integrity of the series.
However, I would not mind a multiplayer mode; one that allowed for 3-5 players in a co-op non-linear game. You wouldn't be restricted to staying in the same area or even doing the same quests, but you could only do the main quest as a party - complementing each others skills and increasing the role playing value.

We've spent so long toiling under the shadow of PvP MMORPGs that we've forgotten what really makes pen and paper RPGs fun - a small group of friends, all in a unit acting imaginatively and cooperatively to beat a quest that the DM has set (in this case, Bethesda). You don't play a pen and paper game with 63 other people you barely know, in a continuous and unimaginative grind, and then occassionally stab each other in the face because you've moved into an arbitrary area where such a thing is permitted.

Anyway, because the Bitter Coast region was such a beautifully executed swamp - I'm in favour of a game set in Black Marsh. Especially if Argonian architecture was a mixture of Mayan temple and swamp-town-on-stilts. And if you were less scared of the animals that haunted the swamps, and more scared of the diseases. It'd bring an interesting element to a game, where the enemies were not the problem but the very land itself was trying to kill you. Of course, other races would have to get massive buffs to balance Argonian's being naturally resistant to these diseases.

Think of the guilds - the Shadowscales. An underground mages' guild, or a more superstitious/Shamanistic way of developing went, like Morrowind became less accepting of magicka. The rebellions against the imperial forts, and the country becoming more traditionally Argonian the further south you went, as Morrowind was less Imperial the further east. You could again join the Imperial Legion and begin oppression, trying to consolidate your position after the troubles in the empire, or an Argonian sympathiser, trying to push them out of the country in a much more real way than Morrowind's vague anti-Imperial feeling.

You know, this actually might be doable. I'm in agreement over the whole MMORPG/PvP thing (that's specifically the reason I don't play MMORPGs to begin with, that and the fact that I have no high speed internet connection to speak of rolleyes.gif ), but I could see something that isn't necessarily MMO, just muliplayer (as in small parties of 3 - 5 players at a time).

Hellnight, I think you are the first person I've seen to date that has openly expressed unconditional love for this series. You are part of a group that Bethesda refers to as their loyal fan base. It's people like you that have elevated the series to the top of it's genre(Kudos to you my friend).

And on that note I would just like to say that all this speculation about a possible TES MMO (which is off topic by the way) is a mute point. Bethesda has stated publicly on two seperate occasions that they will continue doing what they do best until such time as they are not the leaders in their field any longer. The last time I checked they were still the world champs of single player RPG and i don't think they are going to retire undefeated.

And then try to do something you're not familiar with and screw up badly? I doubt it... and I doubt Beth will do the same...
