Full Version: The Prophecy of the Five Deaths

As there's no "General Mod Talk" analog for Morrowind, this is a somewhat suitable place.

"Each event is preceded by Prophecy.
But without the hero,
there is no Event."
-Zurin Arctus | the Underking

Verse 1 of the Prophecy of the Five Deaths:
QUOTE
Death by flowing fire
Death by rending earth
Death by towering water
Death by choking ash
Death by bleakest winter

You know the Prophecy, and the Hero is not yet mentioned. What is the Event?
Abramul
Look for the one who rose before
Seek out the one who roams no more
Find you the one who journeyed away
Set free the one who imprisoned stays
Abramul
The Soul of the Moons is the Heart of the Mountain
The Heart of the Mountain is the Stone of the Tower
The Stone of the Tower is the Shield of the Dragon

Without a Shield, the Dragon has fallen
Without a Stone, the Tower will fall
Without a Heart, the Mountain awakes
Daedra's Pawn has threatened all
NewtC
Which game is this in context to, Morrowind or Oblivion?
Abramul
The setting is Morrowind, a while after the events of Oblivion.

This is f*ckin' tough.

But after a bit of research here's what I have so far:

QUOTE
Death by flowing fire
Death by rending earth
Death by towering water
Death by choking ash
Death by bleakest winter

Anyone can say they're natural disasters, but could they represent something more?
Flowing fire could definitely come from Red Mountain, but pre-Oblivion since, I believe it's gone dormant after the destruction of the enchantments upon Lorkhan's heart (no more ash storms would at least suggest such a possibility). Hmm if not is the seminal eruption which changed the Chimer to Dunmer.

Rending earth is an earthquake, I hope. Not sure when the last time Morrowind had a quake. Open to suggestions.

Towering water stumps me. A flood, yes, but of what significance? The only flood I recall comes from a legendary attempt by Vivec to fend off invasion by drowning Morrowind in a flood. Taken alongside the volcanic Red Mountain, this would mean both events have already occurred.

Again, choking ash seems to be an effect of pre-Nerevarine activity. Could have happened awhile ago.

Bleakest winter is the strangest one yet. It could suggest a calamity akin to nuclear winter perhaps brought on by the effects of a MASSIVE ash storm, but Dunmer history doesn't support this as a preexisting event. But from another angle, given their violent history, it could mean invasion from Skyrim, longtime enemies of the Dunmer. OR the attempted invasion I mentioned earlier which caused the flood: the incursion of Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal, an Akaviri demon from Kamal (aka Snow Hell)Open to suggestions.

Short section here, so I'll be brief. I believe the "one who rose before" and the "one who journeyed far away" to be the Nerevarine. He's currently inhabiting his second advent and journeyed far-- "'neath moon and star," sure-- but also to Akavir. No idea who the one imprisoned is. Vivec?

Ok now, very important, I'm 75% sure I got most of this verse puzzled out.

"Soul of the Moon" Stumped.

Heart of the Mountain could easily be Lorkhan's Heart. The Stone of the Tower could just as easily be the Amulet of Kings which was fashioned by Lorkhan whose heart is a "stone of the tower of Nirn". The Amulet is the Shield of the Dragon used to guard against Oblivion and the encroaching Daedra, the Dragon representing the Dragonborn Septims or Imperial supremacy in general.

So where does this put me? Well, I'd say... *runs*

One avertable (future) Event is described.

The initial inspiration for this was Dostoevsky's "The Grand Inquisitor". But what happens if the people learn you have imprisoned one they consider their saviour?

Vivec, incidentally, is beneath one more moon than just the Cloven Duality of Masser and Secunda.

There are other Gods and Kings, other pacts, other barriers...and other vendettas. But when a God is banished, what becomes of the things done under and by his power and authority?

I'll post something after I've researched it.

Me too. I've given myself some time to finish re-reading The Brother's Karamazov so I'll have some relevant thoughts quite soon.
