So, which do you use, Nvidia or ATi and why do you use them?

Now, for my rant:

I have gotten to the point where I am no longer satisfied with having to make concessions and search for performance enhancers for games. (Read: Oblivion)

It is time for me to upgrade from the vice of AGP8x and move into the 'exciting frontier' that is pci-e.

So, as the question states at the top, which company should I use?

Ever since AMD took over ATi, in my opinion, they have been second best. NVidia are definately my first choice at this time.

And big thanks to Dark0ne for getting me to look into the GPU more, seems I would have been braindead to go with the HD2900XT as opposed to the Geforce 8800GT.

I would suggest a P35 or X38 based motherboard. there are some really good performers for a good price.
(the p35's anyway, X38 based are expensive but offer two 16x Pci-express 2.0 lanes [crossfire only, no SLI])

Now, to go off-topic (slightly) in my own thread!

What size of monitor and what brand or type of monitor do you think is the best, it is the only thing that I am still undecided upon.

By the way, the previous post with the specs in has changed slightly, so best to disregard it, I don't have the time at the moment to update it, sorry.

If it was me, I'd just decide what the biggest size monitor you could fit on your desk is, see if you can find a cheap one, and if not, get a slightly smaller size which you can afford.

As for brand, it doesn't really matter- I still use the 17 inch monitor that came with my DELL PC, and that works fine. It can only do 75fps, but as most of the games I have normally play at much less than that, it doesn't really matter.
