Quite simply download the demo.
With the usual delays and hype I have been sceptical about this one based on my experience of Titan Quest, the only other Diablo style game I have played.
Having tried out the demo, which is short, I will be getting the game.
Can already envisage the mods for the skins of a few models already..... those who have experience of TES, once you see the characters you'll know what I mean.

Wut, the demo's out???
Give the link, quickly!
Bah, I'll Google it...
Edit: What the... 1.45 GB big?
*Sigh* Gonna take a while....

I downloaded it and installed the demo, but it just hangs on a black screen (I think) when I try to play it. *sigh* It looked really cool, too.

You got the newest drivers? Or perhaps your Anti-Virus is spooking (mine did first, it blocked the .exe all the time).

Probably the most boring demo I've ever had the misfortune to play. Apparently the beta build is 10 times better than the demo build, but any dev/publisher team that releases a demo that's as shockingly boring as the Hellgate:London demo doesn't deserve my money.

I go the Hellgate: London Collector's Edition a couple minutes after the Gamespot guys put it on the shelf, and it lived up to my expectations. It's the best game I've gotten in a long time, probably my second favorite to the Elder Scrolls series. (That's not saying a lot, last game I got was in the springtime!)
Hope you all come to and decide to buy the game.

I got Hellgate: London a few days ago, while it is a good game I found it took me a while to get into it, the game starts off slow but it picks up it's pace after a few levels. Also it doesn't have the same level as awesomes as the Diablo games did, I haven't been able to put my finger on exactly whats missing from this one though.

mmmm..... I see what you mean. I don't like the way the conversations are like morrowind, with regular text. And, as far in as I am, it doesn't have that "epic" feel that you anticipate. Still, a great game, really cool.

I didn't play the game yet (although I do intend to do so) but from the reviews I've been reading lately the game is good but it isn't exactly the BIG BANG so many expected.
I played the demo and honestly I was expecting a darker atmosphere... The dialogs from the demos weren't the least believable IMO...

This review pretty much somes up the majority of my complaints. The game, in my opinion, is boring, dull and unimaginative. A real shocker.

But we all think different, don't we?

Obviously in those seven hours you played it you didn't get very far, because there's far more than street, hell, and sewer.
There's the Hellrift, Hell dungeon, sewers, street, underground train system, mind of 314, and a building-like dungeon. All in all, that's 7, and I'm only two fifths of the way done. You'd have to play more than seven hours to get the full experience our of it.
I'm not going to even bother to read the rest of your incessant rambling about H:L.

What exactly don't you agree with? I read it through and the only real thing I can see there being a conflict with is the "dull" and "boring" parts, that may be open to opinion (because, as MMO's have shown, some dolts actually enjoy the monotonous grind of doing the same quest over and over...). The rest I thought was common sense and objective!

Hell and the hell rift might as well be one and the same (hence the use of "hell" in the name). Sewers and street I referenced. Underground system = the bases from Diablo 2 but with even less imagination.
If the game is utter crap for the first seven hours it's not worth playing longer. No Hellgate fan boy is going to make me fall for the old "the good bit's at the end!" crap that they similarly tried to pull on World of Warcraft.

I never said it was good at the end, I said you haven't played far enough to truly experience it. And I also said I was only two-fifths of the way done. I wouldn't know if hte end's good or not, only that it's St. Paul's Hellgate.
And I'm a fan because I read the book, mostly.

And I never said that you said ... blah blah blah. The review is of my first seven hours of play i.e. I've experienced seven hours and here's my opinion. Perhaps you should read a little bit further down and get to the part where I actually cover this issue before you comment again and make me repeat myself. The paragraph starts with "Now it's possible" if you want to do a ctrl+f and skip the rest.

Well, to tell the truth, I only read a little of your review, and the text at the screenshots...
Heck, I like the game, and you don't, so what's the point of arguing?

I haven't played very much of it, but I can say it's addictive. What I can't say is that it's fun, because it's not.
I didn't really enjoy what little I played of Diablo either.

Don't mean to be an ass but when I see something like this (list of bugs that Flagship needs to fix urgently):
QUOTE
* Resolving any remaining problems related to billing and subscriptions.
* Fixing two known bugs which cause players to sometimes lose items (one related to dual focus/dual melee, and one related to loading issues).
* Making improvements to memory usage in order to reduce "Memory Exhausted" crashes.
* Fixing a known issue with the user interface which causes the application to lock up intermittently.* An issue which occasionally prevents characters from being able to load or switch instances.
* General chat interface improvements. (Many improvements are in the works).
* Random disconnects and lag.
* Allowing higher resolution textures and models for other players.
* Various known problems with being able to continue interrupted side quests.
* Remnant quest items not getting destroyed and "clogging" up inventory.
* Continued problems with saving / loading Engineer Drone items.
* Invisible party members.
* The nanoforge not correctly improving rare and better armors.
* Getting stuck on collision.
It reminds me of Gothic 3 with it's enormous number of bugs. I made the mistake of getting Gothic 3 but I'm not going to make the same mistake again. The thing is that Gothic 3 had potential but the bugs ruined it.... Hellgate also had potential but even if the bugs get fixed there's still the "repetitive scenes/combat" issue (just to mention one).
I might get it but honestly I'm not expecting a "blockbuster" game...

If any one is interested there is a new patch for this game out today.
Having finished playing "The Witcher" through to the end I have been trying this game out for a couple of days.
Still believe it's worth playing; as commented above it is strangely addictive.
However, what is not impressive is the 2 tier service provided between the US and the rest of the world, for example no access to the web site's forums unless you have a North American account. Suprised how pissed off that makes me feel!

While Hellgate isn't terrible (it's actually rather fun most of the time), it's just not special in the same way Diablo 2 is.

Have the same feelings. It's nothing special about it. I finished normal mode which was kind of fun. Started Nightmare Mode and it got incredibly boring. I bought it because of the Multiplayer Mode. I Found a party 2 times while playing normal mode and we couldn't enter any area together because we didn't have the same quests. The only thing Multiplayer is good for at the moment is posing with your gear in a subway station. I will wait for about half a year until i try it again. Perhaps than there will be a better chat system, pvp,..... I quit Diablo long time ago but still remember having a lot of fun in Multiplayer. At the moment fun factor of hellgate is at about 30% of old diablo.
