Ok, I just wanted to share this link with all of you. I had a problem with uninstalling and reinstalling Oblivion, but I emailed a family friend and he showed this to me. Follow it EXACTLY. It guides you through how to eliminate every trace of Oblivion from your computer, and then you should be able to install it again. http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.ph...p;#entry8103714

I've been Oblivionless for several months due to the fact that it was giving me problems and wouldn't let me reinstall. Even the setup.exe wouldn't work and that always worked for me...So i did what I thought sounded like a good idea: i tried to manually delete everything. but it didn't work so i couldn't install or play it glare.gif So, i was very glad to see this thread. But, alas, it did not work...and since i can't get the game to run on my parents Vista computer (i'm running XP) i shall remain Oblivionless for the time being, unless some has another idea...And i had a big mod project going too... sad.gif

The following is not an advertisement, it is just good advice rolleyes.gif , from someone who has been programming, fixing, and working with computers, for over two decades.

I don’t know how I survived before I started using Norton Ghost. (One of several good applications out there) It creates an image of your drive. Then if you make changes, install software, or get creamed by a virus. No Problem. You just restore your saved image.

Bingo you’re back in business. The Problem Never Happened! excl.gif

It has saved me weeks of time. Literally. I create a backup image before every major Install or Change I make, so instead of starting from scratch I just restore the last backup image and I’m ready to go.

There are some tricks to using it or any other Drive Imaging software but its nothing compared to the benefits.

I always create an image before the install of Oblivion so it’s easy to go back and install new hardware drivers, software drivers, and Windows Updates. (Image 1)

And I can always use this image to do “clean” installs of Oblivion, Updated Patches (Official & Unofficial), and the latest versions of my Mod Managers and other Game Utilities. (Image 2)

Then I create an image once those are installed and I have saved one game in the Imperial Prison. (Image 3)

I have a group of mods that I have tested and I know are problem free. I install those, start the game up and go up a level or two. Then I create another image (Image 3)

I am now free to install new untested mods check for conflicts, sort out problems, and decide which ones to keep and which ones to toss.

I then restore Image 3 install the mods I want to keep and create my Oblivion Master Image (Image 4).

Creating each backup image takes less than ten minutes (on my machine).

This process may seem like a lot of work, but it is nothing compared to the days and even weeks of tearing my hair out wacko.gif trying to find the needle in the haystack that caused a problem, only to find out in the end that I have to wipe the disk clean and start over from scratch angry.gif .

Hope this helps someone out there. blush.gif
Any questions, I will be happy to reply.

I just installed patch 1.2.0.416, and then when I went to a certain worldspace, it crashed, also I even tried it with OBSE v12. I uninstalled these programs, and i reinstalled it again. Then I got the same crash, so I checked it's version, and it says 1.1.0.425. Default beta version. So, something is very wrong with the game. What do you think I should do? Am I'm missing something, like does it have to do with the shaders? I'm having a real serious problem with Oblivion this time, and it would be helpful if somebody told me what it is that's crashing it, or could provide a link. If you can help me with this part, that would be great!

Ok, here's what I did. I installed Mounted Combat OBSE, and uninstalled it because it crashed. Is it conflicting with Oblivion when I remove it?
gamemaster79
Wait, so have you tried making copies of your saves/mods, and then through the link above uninstalling then reinstalling Oblivion with the newest patch (after reinstalling, adding the saved saves/mod files).

Yes I did, but do you know a link to solve the problem, or do you know how to fix it?
gamemaster79
Can't say that I know how to fix it, sorry unsure.gif, but knowing how there are loads of problems with Oblivion I bet that there is someone in this community that would be able to help with this problem.
The_Terminator
Stupid question, I know, but have you tried it with no mods at all?
gamemaster79
Yeah there is always that... tongue.gif

Hello!

Is the Oblivion 1.2.0416 patch the same as the Shivering Isles 1.2.0416 patch? I'm just asking to be on the safe side, but I suppose it is. Seems logical. rolleyes.gif
gman021
Yes!!!! Thank you SO much!

I'm so HAPPY!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Now to play SSBB while it installs... rolleyes.gif

I'm glad that I could help a fellow fan of Oblivion biggrin.gif. I know how frustrating it can be when Oblivion's uninstall function or other error can mess up what should be a clean reinstall.

Cheers,

2.46 Million Hits. Google this:

"Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since the contents do not match."

2, 460, 000 hits as of ten minutes ago. The big winner is some box-busting game from 2K Software, then the exact (byte for byte) same message for many, many Java users. I fell asleep clicking "NEXT" looking for Oblivion, so I included Oblivion in my next search. Apparently:

1. I am a pirate!!1
2. I seriously don't know what language I speak, and am using the wrong patch.
3. I HAX0R shad0r philes!1
4. I really am a pirate and should confess my sins.

The punch line is that, once again, having paid US dollars for PC software and obtained a bona fide serial number, my best remedy is to, um, invite my nephew Zero Day over and turn him loose on my machine. Somehow he always manages to fix these whoopsies for me, even when TWO POINT FOUR SIX MILLION responses show up on Google when I go looking for my -- heh, "my," like *I* scrambled the software or am somehow to blame or something -- anyway, yep, MY software problem's solution.

Here's something to Google: oenophile. The difference between wine and software is that a fifty-dollar bottle of wine takes more than six weeks to reveal itself as sewage. Gee, I wonder why PC software sales have been tanking year-over-year since Caesar was a road guard. Mysterious. Anyway, I charge too much per hour to debug software to do it for free. Excuse me, someone's at the door. Beating on it with drumsticks. Probably Zero Day. Toodle-oo, you Java pirates. Keep your hands off the shaders!

I fail to see how most of your post has much to do with helping people with the topic's subject.

Edit: I am sorry forget what I said, but I do get significantly different results then described above.

Really? Because it made sense to me.

I paid for the Game of the Year Edition, you know, the one with Shivering Isles? And I installed both. I read on the Official elder scrolls bethesda website that there was a patch I should download, one for if I'm running Oblivion and one if I'm running Oblivion with SI.

At the end of the day the 416 Oblivion English Ver. patch worked for me, BUT the SI version would not, which resulted in my adding my stat to the Google statistics sited above.

imagine that.

I later had an issue with Downloadable Content (purchased) and BethSoft support authoritatively assured me that the GOTY Edition doesn't need the patch. hmm that didn't sound right to me but I thought I'd take him at his word since he is in a position to know better than me, right.

Well recently I had occasion to reinstall Oblivion (no problems reinstalling on my tweaked Vista machine btw) and when I went to reinstall OBSE lo and behold! I wasn't running Ver 416. Imagine that. I downloaded the Oblivion patch. For spits and giggles I downloaded the SI english ver. patch as well, "old file not find..." hmm. *rolleyes*

Bliv 416 patch worked fine.. again. All is well.
