Full Version: Scourge's story?

Level 73 Xbox Morrowind player here (useless factoid).

I thought I'd ask the lore experts if anyone knows of the story of that poor decapitated lizard named "Scourge" of the item "Head of Scourge" found in The Lizard's Head hangout of the Telvanni canton's waistworks.
The NPC's in the hangout oddly enough don't have any stories about it.

I DO know of the MACE-weapon named 'Scourge' found in Tel Fyr, but has anyone come across any books/NPC stories illuminating the decapitated ARGONIAN Scourge's history?

Even those who dissect the game on computer who've found something on him can provide.
Yazatus
You mean the Head of Scourge?
Well if so..Im still wondering what you need it for. Maybe a quest I never played...
Blackmage
Never heard of it... I'll go check it out right now

EDIT:

/shudder... that was not thx man...kinda creepy. Lol, I tried to equip it, hoping it might have been a hat of some sort. No dice though.
wesaynothin
The head of scourge, found in the basement of the lizards head in the Telvanni canton. I don't think it has anything to do with any quests, just something the ppl at Bethesda put in for the heck of it.
Marxist ßastard
The bar is named "The Lizard's Head," right? Maybe the head was on display, but the owner decided to put it into storage once they let the outlanders roam freely around Vivec...

Foolish outlanders, forced to vomit just because their precious eyes catch a glimpse of a decapitated lizard...
ObsidianKnight
whoa, i never noticed it until now. Kinda creepy.
Probly an old throwback to when slavery was much more widespread in Morrowind (maybe even Pre-Imperial days), and the abolitionists weren't going nuts trying to end it.
Dr. Corbett
Stupid lizards. (Mumble, mumble. Next time one of them declares their intentions to slay me with spells and steel, I'm going to end his life on the spot. Bounty is cheap at the Thief's Guild.)
TSBasilisk
Scourge was a test character for the devs. They decided to add his head as a memorial to his many deaths(most likely). You can also find the bone and amulet of Pop Je, a fan who died while Morrowind was under development, get a message concerning an old rivalry when you obtain Eltonbrand, every Dwemer pipe translates as Wormgod(developer Gary Noonan), and the Dwemer doors with the image and writing on them read "In Loving Memory Gary Noonan Sr".
DreamOfTheRood
Can anyone back up what this guy is saying? If he's right, then the developers were far more calculating than I had imagined.
Stormscape
Well, go to hell Carolina was like huh? from me.
I think if you look back in the official forums, youfind something about Pop Je.
Marxist ßastard
Hrm... Well, that would also explain the naming of "Scourge Barrow" quite nicely.
Peregrine
Well, the Eltonbrand thing is real. Its refering to a college basketball rivalry between UNC-Chapel Hill and (probably) Duke. Though pretty much any non-unc school around here would say it!

Oh, and with a game like this I'd be suprised if there wasn't a long list of stuff like that. I mean, if you're spending hour after hour building the world, I'd imagine it would be hard to resist the temptation to add in a few private jokes/messages/etc.
Stormscape
like Lord Cluttermonkey?
and the Clutterbane?
And what's up with the crazy axe caled queen of bats or something?
and why will mages (Telvanni; Mage's Guild) talk to vampires but not barter with them or do fast travel?
why is Fury so stupid?
why do the ash vampires dance when they fight?
why do Vivec's voice files sound like he's the bad guy and make Dagoth Ur look like a big wuss?
and don't get me started on monster stats.....
why does Mubcrab have 90 personality and 0 willpower?
Since when are mubcrabs sexy?

(1) The Axe of the Queen of Bats is the only truly unique axe in the game. It has no quest ties, and is not included anywhere in the game world.
(2) The members of the Mages Guild, like the Telvanni, have a psuedo-scientific interest in the vampires, and will on occasion give quests. But bartering and guold guide services are beyond the extent offered the the Afflicted.
(3)Fury, which once permanently damaged skills, now only drains them, with the Morrowind Patch. And, if your skills are still drained from Fury's effect, the Temple and Imperial shrines now restore attributes and skills. Though I don't know why anyone would even equip Fury after seeing what it does.
(4)Ash Vampires do not 'dance' when they fight. The waving motions they perform, like Dagoth Ur, are the animation for spellcasting.
(5)I agree. Vivec's sound files do sound REALLY cool. But, for a once-mortal-converted-immortal, Dagoth Ur's voice isn't too bad either. Perhaps he just doesn't have the self esteem of having thousands of people worshipping him. tongue.gif
(6)...Regular monster stats? Are you saying they are too good? Not good enough? Special monsters? Explain.
(7)Mudcrabs have 75 Personality and 0 Willpower. Though this is odd, it has no effect on gameplay.
(cool.gif I have never thought of Medcrabs as 'sexy,' but, hey, whatever floats your boat. Nobody is judging.

I wonder... MEmod. will it have things like that...?... tongue.gif lol, I found that head and sold it, only like 200 gold though.... There should be a note, that explains a brief story of scourge, by it.
DreamOfTheRood
You should make a mod for that.

:nazgul: <- says: "i know im cool but im starting to feel abussed"

writing the notes prolly going to be more difficult then putting it into the game, perhaps he was depressed and commited suicide, yay suicide notes are easy to write "good bye cruel world, i hate you so very much" maybe put a nice rusty axe next to the head too, like that rusty dagger make it do 1dmg or something and enchant it with something silly like damage health 1pts on self, restorehealth 1pt on target lol

Mmmhhh, cutting your own head off...that sounds like a fun form of suicide. Kinda hard though to mount the head on a plauqe after. huh.gif

i would assume because deep down, maybe some philosophical point is being made that Vivec may very well be the bad guy...

I might be wrong, but I've recently read a book in the game - a play called the Hypothetical Treachery, where a Telvanni battlemage wipes out the group she was working with to get a particular artifact.

The first person she knocks off is a lizard barbarian by the name of Scourge (who actually tried to get rid of her wink.gif . IF I remember correctly. It was a name very much like that anyhoo wink.gif

tongue.gif

Fun story though biggrin.gif
Sludgewort
where did you get the book?

The Argonian's name is Schiavas, and he is a hired barbarian in the quest to find the Ebony Mail. The Dunmer female battlemage does not kill them to "produce a particular effect, but to get the Mail all to herself.
Sludgewort
yes but where do you get the book?

Sludgewort, repeating a post made only two above constitutes spam. Consider this to be your last warning. We try very hard here not to ban people but you are making it difficult. If there is anything difficult in the rules PM me and I can spell it out in words on one syllable.

-Ashurnabitashpi
-The test crate of all books in ToddTest

Scourge was, indeed, a dev team testing character. I've even seen a screenshot of him, and will try to find the place that they stashed it.

Correction, an actual animation of him casting a fireball. You can find it on this page: http://www.elderscrolls.com/codex/team_magicnlight.htm
and it is this specific file: http://www.elderscrolls.com/images/team/ma...t/mw_06anim.gif

There are multiple animationed gifs and screenshots of him casting magic. I can't remember where exactly I saw the information about the poor sap working for the dev team as a test dummy, but I'm sure a little digging would bring it up.

(Might I add that is one badass looking Argonian.)
Sludgewort
hey,

cool so thats what he looks like, apart from the head.

funny,look what i got:
