Ah, another Christmas is upon us. Not to sound too cliche, but I wish all the members of TESSource a very merry Christmas and hope you spend the time, whatever your belief, with your family and friends. It's very rare when the whole family get together, sit down in the living room and talk, laugh and share past experiences, but Christmas is when it happens.
I'm not really a big fan of Christmas as a whole, I think it's bigged up far too much with pressure put on people to find "the perfect gift" when the best gift is really the quality time you spend with the ones you care about. My girlfriend and I have decided not to buy each other gifts this year, not because we're stingy, but simply because we'd rather be spending the time with each other (she's living in Morocco at the moment on a student learning year out) than worrying about what to buy. My best friend and I don't buy presents for each other at all -- Birthdays or Christmas -- we figure it's like him giving me money and me giving it back. I've made an effort for my closest relatives, however, and done most of my Christmas shopping online. Not really an effort, but the thought is there none-the-less!
At this time of the year I tend to look back and reflect on what has happened over the past year; I've moved into a new house with friends from university, setup a company, found a new love and lost close friends and relatives to death, an interesting year which lacked enough alcohol (in relative terms to my student status), something I hope to rectify with a sort of psuedo new years resolution: to get out more, irrespective of the god awful UK indie music the local university scene spews out of its metaphorical rear-end, and enjoy more time with my friends in the many pubs (and dare I say it, clubs) Exeter has to offer. That's the sort of resolution I like. Mind, I'm not a hermit, just simply enjoy the seedier bars and clubs in Exeter that many of my friends frown upon.
