Download System Changed
The download system has been changed today for added security and to stop file leechers. It is now impossible to directly access a file from the server without going through the download script.

As a result the download is served by to the browser by PHP (rather than HTTP) and some Internet Explorer users may experience the Internet Security warning before downloading. You are safe to accept the download. Your download should start as normal.

This paves the way for the new subscription service.

Well, that's good news. *sigh* Subscription was bound to happen to TESsource, unfortunatly....

If this website requires payment to download files then a lot of people will just go elsewhere. Nobody will be willing to pay. This is why World of Warcraft is not as popular as it could have been. Does changing the way files are downloaded change the download problems? Many dialup users still have problems downloading the larger mods (6MB+). Pause and resume doesn't work with tessource too.

Oblivionsource is still free, so is a number of other websites for now. Time to abandon tessource sad.gif
Dark0ne
Please read the feedback thread. You're not required to pay.

If you are still an Internet Explorer user, you deserve that, it is the worst of them all (unless you like spyware, and trojans) get Mozilla Firefox.

and subscription is bound to happen to every free site.

What's the point in suscribing to this website if you don't need to pay? Is it just for the hassle?
Post count+1? You mean we get a treat for posting a lot? I'll keep that in mind from now on... hehehe.

IE isn't worse than FireFox. And I wasn't talking about that. I was on about dialup users.

Has the admin ever thought of changing this website's color to bright pink? laugh.gif

Might be useful to add that to your sig for a while.

I would have to assume that the only thing that changed was some scripting because when I just downloaded a mod, I didn't notice anything different. I use Opera instead of IE, so that might also be why I didn't notice any change.

If it means that it will stop people from being stupid, then I am all for it.

I don't like reading all that! You never gave that link earlier on so you can't blame me for not knowing!

Since you love this website so much... why can't you just put more money into it from your own pocket...? Lol. Right, stupid suggestion.

Moving on... Yay! Postcount+1. Lol. You got me into this postcount+1 joy habbit.

It's all your fault for my immaturity!

Hi,

I don't know if it has anything to do with the new system, but it's impossible for me to download the files with a download manager (Free Download Manager 2.0). The program is always trying to download the PHP-Script "download.php". I'm using Firefox (newest version) with the extension "Flashgot". A few days before it worked without problems.

If i use the standard download tool of firefox it works as it should. but for me, as a user of a low-speed internet connection, it is very helpful to download files with a programm which is able to stop the download and resume it another day. and because of that i need to use programs like Free Download Manager.

may be it's possible to fix this bug?

so long,
SR

Unfortunately the site is not compatible with download managers. This is for security reasons. Sorry.

No power in the 'verse can stop that.

So, anyway, being a Supporter is cheap... and I feel better about paying for Source than I would about paying for FilePlanet. I am lovin' the blazing download speeds.

You might see whether the mod author has a homepage. A download manager would likely work there.

Well i guess this site is biased. I posted a broken page and nothing was done but removed my post so no one would see the link i paste. Could of at least explained.

You posted it in this thread, which isn't relevent to the discussion.

OK I don't get it. How can I download now. It just shows me nothing.

Explain what you're trying to do. Provide a link to the page which shows you nothing. Tell me what file you're trying to download.

OK, let me rephrase.

I was enjoying blazing download speeds... no longer. Now my downloads are capped @ ~45k. huh.gif

Shouldn't be, as long as you're logged in with your supporter account. The system isn't capped and the server connection is nowhere near max.

Let me know if the problem persists.

Well, I can't download files either way (http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=4431).
Using Firefox 1.5.0.4 without using a download manager (but with flashgot installed) I get the right filename, click save, and the download succeeds... but it's a 0kb file.
Using firefox with a download manager (KGet) the filename is changed to download.php and again it's a 0kb file.
Using konqueror with kget (it doesn't allow direct download without a download manager, and why should it?) I get the same as above (firefox & kget).
This is all on linux 2.6.16 btw. Maybe I'll try Firefox on windows later... but for some reason my connection keeps cutting out frequently on windows so I doubt I'll be able to download a 20MB file without resume support. Download manager support is a good idea, yes really.

Oh I don't have a supporter account... if that's relevent.

I don't know how the site used to be, but my downloading capabilities are normally upwards of 200KB/s; as it is with this system now the average rate is around 11KB/s. It may have upgraded your security a little but it ridiculously degraded your functionality.

That's all dependent on the time of day you use the site; if the connection is saturated then you get much slower downloads. It's essentially the whole reason for the new Supporter system.

Dark0ne, not supporting DL managers is the worst idea. Me with 56k can't DL much, since my ISP DC-es me every 3 minutes (try to live in Serbia).

Utilitarian approach I'm afraid. I either don't support DL managers and have more connections open for people to use, or DO support them and have everyone getting disconnected at random.

Would it be possible for large(ish) files to be available in multiple parts for those with poor connections?

You don't have to be a supporter to access files over 2 MB. You just have to be logged in when you try to download a file.
shadowhowl1900
