* Disclaimer off *

Good to know who's who on the playing ground ph34r.gif , regular faces are back smile.gif , one that is new with the "corruption" of power rolleyes.gif Do your "jobs" but must important, enjoy yourselves while playing. Hope you guys listen to requests and moans of other regular players when frustrated with Tk'ers and BS-players

To me an admin needs to be a person who doesn't whore the jets every bloody map that has them. That pretty much rules out most, if not all of the regulars tongue.gif

Now that remark actually made me smile, better yet an evil grin is more like it, but BrotherInWar has a point, AA is truly buffed now, but not completly fool proof (than again is anything ever truly foolproof i wonder)
mogambo
Hey i was a great admin!

I fact i would even police the airstrips as this was where these aholes would congregate!!

BrightAsh
Yeah, eventually it was so bad that you didn't even got time to play. you were too busy kickin' and banning people smile.gif

But then again who cares!? Admins are like referees they don't see everything and sometimes must rely on their assistants to make a game run like a well-oiled-machine

I know the rules and i play so lame i have the time for kicking noobs.
So i want to be an Admin so you know it all. excl.gif thx all for keeping good server alive (hopely)

3rdegree
wacko.gif hi all.
I have to say well done for the server which is clean of spiteful idiots who kill for planes and all that cR*P. Some of the tactical horeing im not so sure what side of the fence because we all loved the heli flag capture of old....but to be honest what ever most people are doing i will just hunt them down like wild boars moohhaaa

Well my question is why do severs (not GS of course) stop you attacking uncapable bases when all the flags are taken, because thats the madness of war running for your life from artililary, ducking from frendly fire.

By the way Mogambo we still have to settle the score in the jets!! hehe

DaRkOne I would like to take more of a role in server patrol and i know how to spot a nasty gamer. ph34r.gif I dont know what to say really as im always on the server but I am going to continue speaking through this becase we can share information.

like this what a nice card with the right kinda name

Gainward 7800GS (with a 7800GT GPU) BLISS Silent 512MB AGP TVO DVI

I would suggest this for battlefield any contestants in AGP

mogambo
You mean when i p00ned you in the MiG29 when you were in the Superior EuroFighter?!!!

Oh and Welcome to the forums 3rdy

MadAntUK
Welcome to the forum mate. Look forward to seeing you in game when I get some time to play.

Also you can give me some advice on graphics cards when i get to build my dream pc! rolleyes.gif

Cheers,

MadAnt

arch3r
i don't know a lot about graphics cards m8. but if your looking for a good one for gaming i would go for the 7900gt GDDR3 256mb.
3rdegree
biggrin.gif Of course MadAnt anytime. This is the classic battle between ATI and Nvidia and as we also have a new skirmish with the influx of nvidia sli and the Ati crossfire cards. So when I was looking at AGP vs PCI express to take the leap of faith to dual cards, I realised that there are lots to choose from and many different opinions. If yo'u looked just at power ;'Nivida' in the (gforce 4 Ti) days won hands down with ATI producing cinimatic effects for games such as half life 1 and 2. Now the Saphire ATI Radeon x800 series has done well and the gforce 6800 series (ultra ROCKS truely). The big question of old was MB 16 32 64 128 256 and so now pixel pipelines (the bandwidth me thinks) are improtant. Then everyone shouted about every element of the graphics card. Now we have the debate about PCI-E (express). When it first came out it was not so hot, then really hot cool.gif now i havnt gone in that direction because I have heard rumours that they are rethinking PCI-E and possibly going back to AGP????(makes sence why there are so many low priced PCI-E cards). The SLI/Crossfire thing is amuzing because now poeple say that Nvidia SLI is more unstable than Crossfire but the ATI crossfire system (one version anyway) needs a seperate cooler. This all reminds me of the Voodoo 2 excelorator cards which worked with a PCI card in one slot and a little lead to the voodoo you clipped together. My feeling is that seeing as you can get caught up in graphics cards and there are other things such as low latency RAM, sata or raid hard drives with low respose times and lovely proccessors such as the athlon 3700-4000 at even lower prices now. WAIT for things to pan out.........

What a waffle

Anyway there is more to discuss but I thought I would throw this in for luck rolleyes.gif PS the one I showed you is supposed to be the only AGP card in the world with 20 pixel pipelines out of the box (no overclocking required, must be Gainward Gnomes working hard this year)
Dark0ne
If you're still on AGP and happy then wait until Vista comes out. Save up £800 and buy a decent PCI-E mobo, 64 bit processor and PCI-E card. If you're impatient like me go for PCI-E now, it really does make a difference.

SLi / Crossfire shouldn't be your only reason for going to PCI-E, it IS better.

and the gforce 6800 series (ultra ROCKS truely).

I got that one biggrin.gif tongue.gif
Serum
Ive got a Radeon x800xl on agp works fine for me with my fx55 running behind it.
Altho theres a lot of people using PCI-e around 50% of gfx cards sold are actually still AGP.Not that much of a surprise to me that things may go back to AGP as its full potential hasnt never really been utilised....

Oh and 3rdegree......nice waffle biggrin.gif
MadAntUK
Wow, thanks guys. I will be waiting, for a number of reasons. Not so much of price or waiting for the 'killer' card, but to see if I'll be spending more time at home to get chance to play on a ubar desktop PC. At the mo' I travel a lot with work and I play mostly on my Dell laptop with rubbish 128MB ATI 9600 card, which I guess is ok for a 18 month old laptop.

Things may chance a bit, in which case I'll be seeking some advice before spending out on a kick-ass machine... smile.gif

Thanks all for your advice (especially 3rdegree extensive input)

Cheers,

IM OFF AGAIN blink.gif

*THE BIG CHEESE* ive highlighted in red the kooool stuff

1x CASE Coolermaster Praetorian 730 Silver
(fully aluminum conducts heat 3 times faster than steel)

2X GRAPHICS CARD= Club 3D 7900GTX 512MB GDDR3 DUAL DVI VIVO PCI-E

1x PROCCESOR= Athlon 64 FX-60 Socket 939 Dual Core (Toledo) 2.6GHz 2x1MB Cache

1x Motherboard= Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe S939 NF4 SLI ATX - Sound 2xgiga lan 1394 USB2 SATA2

1x Harddrive= Western Digital WD2500KS Caviar SE 250GB 7200RPM SATA2/300 16MB Cache 2ms

seek time

1x RAM= Crucial Ballistix 1GB kit (512MBx2) DDR PC3200 2-2-2-6 latency UNBUFFERED NON-ECC

DDR400 2.8V 64Meg x 64 MATCHED PAIR1x POWERSUPPLY= Antec TruePower II 550W 20-24pin PSU SLI ready

1x OPTICAL DRIVE= LG GSA-4167BRL 16X Dual Layer Dual Format DVD ± RW Writer - DVDRAM

drag+drop storage

1x SOUND CARD= 1x Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro 5.1 + 7.1 sourcing

1x Logitech G5 gaming mouse (i must say this is the best mouse ive used in all my life)(I

know Venom has pointed that his chioce is the model before because the G5 has only one

additional button on the side 'bummer')

AS FOR KEYBOARDS your choice it might be better just to match up because of the driver

compatibility.(or you could go for that nasty looking BF2 Zboard)

NOW FOR CONTROLLERS (the saitek x52) has got to be the best joy/rudder/throttle in the world

for the price (it doesnt look or feel cheap and they have sorted the compatabilty issues

with BF2) if this continues ill start a new thread because this has gone far away from ADMIN stuff hehe laugh.gif wink.gif

I only knocked this up during work this morning so dont kick my arse, I might not have added

everything and this hasn't been tested yet with BF2. Also this is money to burn stuff I

would personally build up to this spec over time studing the changes in the market (as in

Moores theory of doubleing)

PS: I have some of this kit just got to go for broke with the PCI-E SLI bit. Also your

choice about SLI/Crossfire

In a couple of weeks im going to post a system for us mere mortals (based on an athlon

3700/4000 CPU)

ARRRRRRRRRGH ive waffled again, I must stop doing that
MadAntUK
You think about this stuff tooooooo much. wink.gif

But it does look like it would be the uber PC for gaming, especially the

2X GRAPHICS CARD= Club 3D 7900GTX 512MB GDDR3 DUAL DVI VIVO PCI-E

Maybe one day...

Cheers,

MadAnt

PS - Need some player in the server. It's nearly lunch time and its empty....

Dark0ne
Go for the XFX or Leadtek 7900GTX's instead. I'd highly recommend the Leadtek extreme versions that get the best benchmark scores.

Similarly if you're using your PC as a gaming rig you can reduce those "Verifying client data" loading times by getting a 10,000RPM hard drive.

Lastly you need minimum 1.5GB - 2GB of RAM now.

I find this a pain. By the time my machine has loaded a new map the Blackhawk, ACP's, Tanks, Jets, Attack helo, FAV and my granny have already made it to the otherside of the map!

Can somebody please tell me why everybody thinks SLI/Crossfire is the ultamide gaming add-on/musthave!? That basicly a whole lot of BS. Sure it's a nice brag feature but one good graphics card is more than enough. You only get top preformance out of two cards in high resolutions with lots of AA/AAF and bad driver/game support to boot.

Spend the money that you would throw away on that second card wisely in getting rid of other bottlenecks in your system. For example Use 2x74GB Raptor (ver 2 has NCQ, 16MB cache, 10.000rpm) in raid-0 on a good HW raid controller as a boot/game besides this use another disk wich support NQM for bulk data storage and use at least 2x1GB DDR matched pair like Corsair (has sets that get 2-2-2-5 or lower if you like to tweak).

In my past job i've sold/build/tweaked countless SLI systems but almost all where outperformed by a well balanced all-round system that took in count bottlenecks. And looking at the end price difference is minimal.
Dark0ne
SLi DOES work, it's just not cost effective. Have you tried Quake 4 yet? You can only use the ultra quality settings with SLi, my rig can't play it on ultra -- and I'm up-to-date.

Fact of the matter is harddrives are extremely UNimportant when it comes to gaming. The harddrives only reduce LOAD times and do not actually affect ingame performance.

Just an FYI, my rig:

Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Gainward 7900GTX 512MB
2GB DDR PC3200 RAM
Asus A8N-SLi Premium Mobo

Can't play Quake 4 at ultra settings. Get 1 - 2 FPS. LoLLLLLL.

Am i the only one here who thinks two things:
1. what the hell are you people talking about, i see too much abbreviations, to much numbers too much techatalk. Is it me? or is it normal that a regular person doesn't understand a word that is said here.
2. what does this have to do with server admins tongue.gif

ohmy.gif you are absolutly right, what were whe thinking wink.gif

The server rules that are displayed ingame, triggerde by the admins, perhaps it would be good to post these as a sticky subject on the forum, most other server do this. The rules are clear for the regulars, but for the new players might want a overview

Qicksilver, please pay attention to the date of the last post in a thread, and try not to post one liners that don't really add anything, as that's against our rules. Thanks. ^^
