Remembe Chrono Trigger, Brian Lord, and others?

Those were the "reneissance" era of gaming. When games had both good storylines and gaming features. Now it's all about the graphics and not the storyline(I.E. FF X-2). Only some of the newer RPG's have limited storylines compared to the above mentioned games. I admit, the back story in those games were almost always non-existent, but they were good when they started. Now, it's all glamourous graphics and no story.

Here's some games I own which I still play...

From NES: From the makers of Pokemon, This game was my favorite. I hate pokemon, but I love this puzzle game....

MENDAL PALACE

From SNES:

Breath of Fire 1: Square's masterpiece, after the first one, capcom bought the series and made BREATH OF FIRE 2. This was almost as good as the first, but in my opinion, after 3, the series started deteriorating.

Chrono Trigger: This game was so good, people were trying to make remakes on the net. This titile needs no info because it changed the whole face of RPG's

FF 2,3(US Versions)...This series was decent, 3 was better than 2, but 2 had some good spots too(I.E. going to the moon...) My favorite part of 3 is the Opera House.

Brain Lord: Again, one of my favorites. There are still secrets in this game no one has found yet...(why are parts of maps unavailable??). It has a decent storyline, and all the characters have a past to hide...I wish Enix would of made a sequal, as hinted in the ending..

The 7th Saga: One of the few RPG's that you can play as an evil character from the start(other than Disgaia for PS2). Very long game, but a very good storyline, even involves time traveling...

E.V.O. The Search for Eden: One of the most innovative and unique RPG's I ever played. You evolve your character from a fish all the way to a human(if you want to). I nevered played the sequal on Saturn(called Seven Silver Stars or something).

Super Mario RPG: One of the few "mario" games I like. Usually, I hate mario, but you can't do wrong in a RPG..

Y's 3: Wanderer's from Y's: Great Series! Too bad only 2 games in the series ever was released legally in the US. (Y's: The Ark of Naphiston for PS2)

I fell so in love with N64 that I sold my SNES to get one. I don't necessarily regret it, but I do miss some of the games. Killer Instinct, mainly (KI Gold on N64 was crap in comparison.) I never had a lot of games for SNES, and my tastes have since moved on,but the few I had would bring great joy to play again. (Lost Vikings, KI, Donkey Kong Country etc...)

Chrono Trigger! King of JRPGs. They haven't made one like it since. (Chrono Cross tried, but not quite). I was still a wee one when the SNES was in its prime, and wasn't really heavily into gaming back then, but I have since played Chrono Trigger and a few other classics, and CT is by far my favourite. JRPGs are in danger of deterioration; I'm just waiting to see what FFXII has to offer. FFX-2 was somewhat discouraging in the storyline/character department.

My heartfelt apologies if my narrowminded views do not coincide with the general concensus of opinion, but
I CANNOT ABIDE FINAL FANTASY!!!! NOT ONE OF THEM!!!!
It has to be one of the worst RPGs in history. Random battles, I-hit-you-then-stand-back-and-let-you-hit-me, turn-taking codswallop.
Maybe I should save it for another thread, but while we're on the subject.... I never saw CT, but as a rule, JRPGs have never done it for me.
Possibly the most memorable game for SNES was Super Mario World.
Of course, all of this is merely my humble opinion....

I play FF for the storyline and such but I suppose if you find the combat annoying that will put you off. It's completely unrealistic yes, but I don't find it annoying personally (although the random encounter bit does get a bit tiresome ).

Besides, it's a JRPG, not an RPG. Western and Eastern styles can't really be compared because they're so different. ^^ FF seems to be something you either love or you hate.

I've just tried chrono trigger again. The first time i played it it was a demo, so it stopped when you were thrown into prison

I like it because of the choices you have. You can finish the game in 10 different ways, you can then do a special new game which is different, depending on the way you finished it before. In the prison you had the choice to fight your way out or get saved

There are some nice minigames. The story is great and also long. For a SNES game all this is really great. Die Lavos!

Actually, you can finish the game in 13 different ways, I believe. That or 12. One or the other. I freakin' love Chrono Trigger. I remembered watching my brother play it when our cousin had brought it over when I was like, 4. And then just a couple years ago I picked one off Ebay for 40 bucks, and played it fully for the first time. Twas' great.

I grew up on the SNES, though. I still have over 30 games for it, and I always buy em' when I see them in stores; they're usually pretty cheap anyways.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. My favorite game of all time. It did everything right for Zelda, and is one of the best in the series, imo. Traveling between a light and dark world, having the largest number of dungeouns in a Zelda game (besides OOT, which probably tied it), tons of little hidden things eveywhere. Wow. Must've played through that game at lest 10 times.

Donkey Kong Country: A large number of levels, plenty of hidden parts to many of the levels, a good level variation (never really seemed to get stale), and of course a two-player option.

There are so many more, I just don't feel like listing them all.

well this are the one i remember right now ( Im on the Uni at the moment)

My son or dauger ( when I have 1 ) will inherit them when i die.
I got alot more but like i said this are the 1 that come to my mind i guess i can make a fortune out of them if they worth something in the future, they all in perfect condition with the box and manual instruccion.

The SNES age was great. So many great games...

I still own mine, but I downloaded them, mainly because their was not room anymore for the SNES itself. A few years later, I am glad I did that, now using the keyboard seems easier than the atcual controller.
