Have you completed the main quest yet?

No
There's a main quest?

Voted no.
Partly because I haven't had the time to play, and also because I am trying to avoid doing too much on it as it feels if I gave it any amount of focus I would breeze straight through it.

I just compleated the main quest and I wonder: was Jauffre meant to die or is it random? (in my game, juffre died in the battle for Bruma)
Switch
May 12 2006, 01:22 PM
I don't know, it's kind of weird. Jauffre ended up dead during the battle of Bruma in one instance I think, and then in my recent game Chancellor Ocato killed him? For some reason they got into a fight right at the end, in front of the Akatosh statue.

Ah, RAI is amusing sometimes.

I still haven't got very far on the main quest... reason being my first character got stuck because of the leveling system, so I decided to install loads of mods and start again, and I'm now playing a mage, who isn't my favourite char, but I want to complete the mage's guild before starting again.
That, and the fact that I haven't spent loads of time playing the game.
No spoilers please, but are there actually any good puzzles in the game? The best one I've found so far was probably the test of patience in the dream world (one of the mage's guild quests in the town south-west of imperial city). The only other puzzle I found was in the MD books (about as far as I've got on the main quest).

Jauffre is not important in the late part of the MQ anymore, so that's the moment where it's possible to kill him. He was killed in my battle of bruma too, but i resurrected him with a cheat, to see what would happen

Nothing special really
Yes i've finished it.

Voten no.
I play the game for 88 hours, as game statistics says, and so far haven't made a single step to complete MQ. 33 quests complete, so far, but made very little progress in the guilds.
I dislike the idea of doing MQ at low levels. I will start doing it only then complete all non-storyline quests I can find. With high stats and exellent gear. As a true fantasy hero. And not some clueless, pathetic "Chosen One" like in the "Bard's Tale". =)

Yes.
In the early stages of the MQ I took my time and gained some levels doing various quests and made my way through a chunk of the Thieves' Guild before continuing. When I actually started working on the MQ I was level eight or nine, which was rather odd for me. Typically, I immediately begin the main quest of a game (even if there is a choice) and charge through most or all of it with little attention to other quests.
Anyway, I had a lot of fun with the Oblivion quest line. It felt like there was some real effort put into it on both the part of Bethesda and the player; Bethesda for obvious reasons and for the player it felt like you were actually doing something. Big difference from Morrowind's MQ where it felt like you were running simple errands for various people without actually accomplishing anything. My opinion, of course.
Oblivion's MQ gets my approval. If you haven't played it yet, I suggest you do so whenever you feel comfortable. If, like me, you came to Oblivion after playing Morrowind, you may not expect much from the MQ. Don't jump to conclusions; just play it. I will admit, there were some parts of Oblivion's MQ that could have used some more work. On the whole, however, I found it to be a fun adventure.
SPOILERS BELOW!
Now, if only there was a quest to rebuild Kvatch...
On a side note, is the Temple District in Imperial City ever repaired? I started a new character shortly after I completed the MQ, so I have no idea. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't, though.

yes, spoilers!:
Kvatch is still an ashtray, Baurus and Jauffre were killed in the final Daedric assault on the IC, Martin did his light show spectacular, and all I got was this lousy armor and a pat on the back by Ocato. Small concelation for loosing eveyone that mattered to you.....the w.anker.
Now I've retreated to Fort Grief to live out the rest of my days as a hermit while drinking myself to death (with the Inebreation mod). Until TR: Hammerfell or an expansion that opens up Elsweyr comes out, I'm staying in Fort Grief. When that day comes, I'm leaving for the other provinces to start a new life.

In my run through Jauffre and Baurus bought it at Bruma (no huge loss really)... I did the main quest at around level 35/40 ish as I found in Morrowind that the game lost my interest once I had the main quest licked. This time through it's a cat sniper not a Breton tank and I plan to do Everything prior to even wandering down to Kvatch.
While I won't put in spoilers I thought the end cutscene was ok but the whole thing just didn't feel that special.
Come on modders add some Much needed adventure/ new faction content!!

May 27 2006, 05:41 AM
I agree with Ranger Jon. The ending cutscene could of been much better. I liked how detailed and unique Morrowind's storyline was. I hate to say this but Oblivion's storyline was nowhere near the quality of Morrowind's. I beat the main quest at around level 15 - 10.

I have not finished the game.
I did many side-quests and started joining guilds. After about 100 hours in the game, I discovered mods...yummy-yummy. But as a noob, I installed several mods by hand and after about 30 mods, I started "updating" mods and ended up messing up and prevented the loading of my saved games.
I've started over and I'm now going about using mods much smarter this time. I've converted about 100 mods into .omods using Oblivion Mod Manager and I haven't had an ounce of problems. New conflicting mods are caught before they ever present a problem and the process to uninstall/upgrade mods has never been easier. Thanks Timeslip for saving my game and keeping it fun!

However, my brother went and finished it at level 8 then whinged because there were no more oblivion portals.

In the Mythic Dawn Shrine place were you watch Camoreon "escape" through the portal to his Paradise. My character is the sneaky sort, so to kill them, I'd get a sneak attack on one then use an invisability spell, after about 3 times of doing this all of them started attacking eachother and in the end the last one alive was a guard. I voted yes, and made this post because of somone mentioning Jauffree getting killed by Chancelor Ocato. Yes, Switch, RAI is very amusing.

"What's this amulet doing in my inventory?"
I just love the last option; what would someone think of the game without even knowing of the main quest? Did they think Uriel gave them good graces by releasing them? I mean, c'mon, it's your first journal entry for crying out loud! xP
Sorry, I just find that funny...

No, I`m stuck inside the great-gate outside Bruma

. I made it to the Sigil Stone and were about to take it, then a damn pop-up came that said I had to take the darn Guard cap`n there! I went outside of the Sigilium (?) And found out I was... wait for it... LOST!
So now I`m stuck in "The Bloodfeast" or something like that, with Daedra respawning and swarming the place. My best potions are up and my enchanted staff has almost been used up... Then I must reside on my blade...
But... I voted no... for no particular reason

******MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*****
I was really let down by the simplicity of the storyline and the fact that every quest was a fetching quest or closing one of those stupid oblivion gates(it could have been a lot more fun if it was done better).
And one more thing:

Yes.
SPOILAGE! BEWARE!
And the temple district does get repaired, for who wanted to know. And it is as random as loot is if jauffre gets killed in the Battle for Bruma. Baurus too. And if Ocato kills Jauffre or vice versa that is if one attacked the other on accident. Probably trying to kill those damn Dremora Churls! Evangelion, you spelled damnit wrong, damNit, not damMit. Installarion, your game is screwed. You don't need to bring anyone but your self into that gate. Or would you be talking about that one gate before the great gate where you have to take burd into it and show him how to? The one before you have to get aid for Bruma?

Jul 4 2006, 01:36 PM
At first I took my time with the main questline, and did other quests as the mood took me. After a while though I got heartily sick of Oblivion Gates all over the countryside and so decided to accelerate my pace. After the Aid for Bruma quest, which I did all of, I was swearing 'Never again' but I have to say that I really miss the Gates now...
Although the Gates are 'Dungeons' in the same sense as Forts, Caves and Ayleid Ruins; they were definitely more challenging and more rewarding (kisses her Necklace of Swords!)

Playing it all through for the 4th time now with plenty of promising looking Mods on + all offical DLCs. The plan is to first become Head of all the Guilds and then start the main quest. I have started my way to the Arcane University now. Spent all time bevore doing random (non Daedra Qusts) and Dungeon Crawling. Now that my Strength is 100 and the Char is LvL 17 it's time to get the magic up

There is a plugin that rebuilds Kvatch AFTER you finish The Battle for Kvatch. Unfortunately, it is not finished yet, but is close to completion. And it is not preferable to install it before you finish the battle, for it is not compatible, which means you would be fighting the Daedra in a rebuilt city, which is ridiculous.

I didn't want to even start the Main Quest when I did, but I wandered too close to Kvatch without knowing it was under attack untill too late. Then all these gates started opening everywhere and I got kinda annoyed with it so I shifted up a couple gears to finish the MQ. I don't miss the gates, but now that my char is leader of the guilds (mages/fighters/thieves/Black Hand), and Champion of Cyrodiil, I just wander around now for some sport. I feel kinda cheated by the whole thing
I hope Bethesda comes out with a kick - a$$ expansion or they release more mods (hopefully better than what they have been like - except for Mehrune's Dagger, that one was pretty good) .
Mods i'm waiting on to be released:
~Kvatch reloaded (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=515606)
~Underground City (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=506057)
~Ocean (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=496972)
~Abecean Pirates by Green @nti-n00b Cutlass (with full/finished quests)
Anyhoo, there it is, take care ya'll
From a previous Morrowind Player - Oblivion is just beautiful! I can't wait to see what happens next.

I finished the main storyline 2 times around at lvl 20...
I might start finishing it with my 3rd lvl 20 char but im not sure since the main Quest can be soo boring sometimes
Spoiler
ex: close oblivion gates ~ Aid for Bruma ~. I tried not to do that quest and Martim died in the battle for Bruma, giving me a nice message Martim has died, all hope is lost. I also witnessed chancelor Ocato get squished by Mehrunes Dagon, that was funny, perhaps the most fun I had while completing the game a 2nd time.

voted Yes.
Personal opinions - i think it was VERY short (for a main quest)
its number of quests is propably equal to the DB quests. Very short, very sad

.
Also the end was confusing and empty. So martin died, so im a Champion of Cyrodyll. I have never heard of the 'noble' title Champion of Cyrodyll before that moment, which means that title is not that 'noble' for someone that
closed about 15 oblivion gates (minimum), who is
Hero of Kvatch,
Who was there when Mahrunes Dagone died,
Who was there when the Emperor died,
Who walked around saving Martin's life many times,
Who delivered and then retrieved the Amulet of Kings...
And basically who saved Cyrodill's citizens from a terrible death. my NOBLE reward is some very cheap armor and hearing people call me 'Champion'. I am supose to be a 'Champion' all the way back when i saved Martin from Kvatch! by completing the Main Quest I should have people bow in front of me !
Bow, Counseler Ocato ! bow, Heironemus Lex ! bow, Thoronir ! bow, Jenasine!
oops sorry , was i just suposed to say 'yes' or 'no'? ok than i say
Yes

Yeah, that's really unfair. All my hard works turn out only worth a Champion? The Dragon Armor is not enchanted and I can't even live in the palace! Just think about it! I've died so many times while working my way through the main quest and reloaded a thousand times and all I get is the guards saying some junk to me like this:"It's a honour to speak to you, Champion."

Yes I know. But the Dragon Armor IS enchanted. I've just opened the Construction Set. The pieces of armor are enchanted with some resist things. Resist frost, resist magic, resist fire, resist poison and resist shock. How can you resist such an armor?

No but I rather had it unenchanted...

I've never, Jauffre bores me and i got more interesting things to do, like having one zilion of chars, each one with a diferent race, class and mods used (it really freaks me out to remember all the mods i should load for each char)...
Just kidding, but the main quest really doesn't attracts me.

Nope.
I WOULD do it if I wasn't too busy getting treasure, stealing, randomly committing murder, ruling the shivering isles etc. BUT if I could become the emperor, I'd totally put aside my evil and freaky island to do it. Then I'd start a world war. Except with Highrock. Cuz I like me them bretons.

Completed it back when game was first released for the PC. Moved since, new puter so did again, this time as speedy as I could due to remembering it well. Due to my inpatience; only recruiting one city's help, Baurus and Jauffre both bought it and are still lying there I think, which I find quite disturbing. I didn't take their stuff though..
Enjoyed the main quest. Although not up to Morrowinds standard. The Dawn and the Deadric made nice enemies to my Witchhunter character. Next Elder Scroll however I really hope they keep stuff in the real world. Much more fun popping arrows at people than monkey demons. A (MAN) war would be gud.
