Hi folks,

Thought I'd just drop in and tell people what's happening at the moment.

To begin with I realise some people are experiencing "white page" problems while attempting to download larger files from the second file server. They'll click to download the file and all they get is a white page. As far as I have ascertained this is caused by user's firewalls conflicting with my anti-leech protection. Basically the download server checks to verify that the person downloading files has come from TESSource. This stops other sites and people in general from directly linking to download files and essentially stealing bandwidth without going through the proper means. This is a necessary feature that is coded into the server software itself (as opposed to some custom piece of code I've cooked up on my own!).

People have reported this specific problem with ZoneAlarm firewall. If you are experiencing this problem then please either attempt to give tessource.net special permissions in your firewall software or disable the firewall software just while you download the file. I apologise that I cannot remove the leech protection but in this day and age every precaution has to be taken to prevent people from causing malicious damage to services.

Next I realise downloads are going slowly at the moment. This is obviously because the 20mbit file server is maxxed out on it's connection. The server will have used 6 terrabytes (6,000 Gigabytes) of bandwidth this April. File servers cost about $475/month to maintain and I will not be getting a second one. A kind person over in Romania has offered another 20mbit connection to mirror some of the larger Oblivion mods out there and hopefully this should help to alleviate bandwidth related issues soon.

I haven't been updating the file system at all recently or checking up much on the forums. My return to university has left me with 5 pieces of coursework that require my immediate attention. Then there's the obvious social implications of returning to university and I'll be returning home this weekend for a friend's 26th birthday. Busy times! Thankfully I have coded a relatively stand-alone and self-maintaining system at TESSource that does not normally require direct action from me.

I've had thousands of emails since Oblivion's release and most of them have been left without a reply. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to be answering emails; especially with questions specific to the content of Oblivion. Many apologies again!

Thank you for your continued patronage. Looking forward to the summer season after exams!

So that's why I didn't get an answer. It wasn't about content though, i lost (blush.gif) my password for the mod site creator. The site's name is povuholomods. I was asking for a new password or my old one back smile.gif

Of course, some things are more important so have to be handled first closedeyes.gif

Yeah, it must be a pretty busy time for you right now Darkie. Good luck and all that!

Indeed, I think it's time to break out the Whips of Staff-Ownage and set them to work replying to those emails Dark0ne biggrin.gif The people need to know how to quick-bind items, and they are too busy and important to look at a sticky!

In seriousness, we appreciate the server, even more now that I think you are shelling out that much for our entertainment. Gods bless you our benevolent overlord smile.gif

Good Luck with exams DarkOne!

In case anyone needs a how to for Zone Alarm V6., I found the settings to fix this by:

1. Open Zone Alarm
2. Select the ID Lock page from the left menu
3. Select the Trusted Sites Tab
4. Select add at the bottom of the Trusted Sites menu
5. Insert http://www.tessource.net and click OK
6. Left click both ? symbols to the left and the right of your new site, and change to a green check mark

Hope this is usefull to someone......

I have this problem even if I completely disable my firewall, the strange thing is that I can download some very big mods like OOO without problems but trying to download other big mods gives that white page error.. I can't even download my mod..

I'm not seeing a white screen - my problem is that I try to download the large files and the download will begin, it will download a part of the file and then just quit and say the download is complete, but the file is only a partial file. As an example, I tried to download the Natural Faces mod a dozen times or more at home and sometimes it would almost let me get the whole thing, but never completely. (When I try to restart a download, it does not take up where it left off, it always starts the download from the start.)

Keep in mind, I do not even have a firewall here at home.

Then I decided to download it at work and managed to get the whole file and they DO have a firewall there. ohmy.gif

I had the same problems over and over this weekend while trying to get some large files that I want soooo badly, but had no luck. (If I don't get that Sevarians Katanas mod before long, I'm pretty sure blood will start pouring from my EYES! wacko.gif ) Then tried to download from work today and was only able to download partial files from there too. I just wonder if others have noticed this type of problem and have reported it.

I SINCERELY hate to complain, because you are offering and INCREDIBLE service to us! I am so grateful not to have to pay a fee for these mods!!! You have ALL my thanks and appreciation.

Take care and good luck!

That's actually quite a good idea.

Hi folks

The white page problem is not realy a firewall problem, it's "just" a html referer issue. If, like I always do, you block to send referers (small tags which tell the server you request a new page where you come from), the problem will occur. Just allow to send referer when you click the download link, for the site or once at once.
In facts, most firewalls block referers, but not all of them, and other things do. So don't focus too much on firewalls.
In my opinion, a firewall should do only firewalling job (filtering IPs , protocols and ports), and let specalised things do the rest. For example a real web browser, like Firefox, is much handy, acurate, and apropriated to handle web surfing threats.
That said, I had just one click to do, and it works fine now ! Thanks a lot.

oke the blank page thingy is now gone..but now I get the thing that files download and then stop inmediatly and only download a little part of it.. glare.gif How do I fix that?

Even with my firewall completely off, I still get the white screen issue. I am sorry to say, but blaming the firewall doesn't appear to be accurate at all.

If you are using ZoneAlarm6 you may still get the white screen even with Zaganoth's fix set up. This is almost certainly due to you having your Cookie Control set to Medium or higher (good idea!)

Open ZoneAlarm
Go to the Privacy page
Click the Site List tab
Find www.tessource.net and change the Third Party Cookie and Private Header from a cross to a tick.

If you are not using ZA you may still have some form of cookie control preventing your browser from accessing third party servers. Try ENABLING cookies temporarily and see if it helps.

I can't help with the cutoff problem though. Are you using download accelerators? If so, try turning them off.

I use Norton Internet Security. Even when the entire system is offline, closed, processes off....I still get a white screen.

I'm sorry but I simply cannot believe that firewalls are the issue here.

And yes, cookies are on.
lightmin2da
when i turn off my norton internet security, the white screen is gone
but i also have 'partial download' problem
whenever i download something it stops even tho its not complete.

Me too

What can be done to fix this?
A mirror site maybe?
Is this still a problem for everyone else??
