Why doesn't the Thieves' Guild like you to slay anyone on the job? Yet why does the Gray Fox let you after the first mission for him (sorry if that spoiled anything for anyone)?

Why bother using sneak when you can kill anyone who attempts to arrest you. I may be a bandit.

So which farms has wheat stalks I can harvest from

Can your opponent disarm you when you fight him with the blade of woe? It's a quest item so should not be dropable...
Ottomus
No. Quest items cant be dropped. So, if he slashes you with sideways attack, it will never fall.

That's handy... You could keep umbra as a quest item by never completing the quest... Nice. Best sword in game not dropable.

I thought that was only with blunt weapons!

I thought that was only with blunt weapons!

It's with all weapons. Apparently Bethesda didn't feel like being original that day. Fists, blades, axes or hammers. It doesn't matter. All the power attacks do the same special thing. Only the bow is different.
Tiberiu911
I hate that disarm ability.

I had an ebony longsword, spent the skin on my ass to enchant it, and while fighting in an Oblivion realm, some Dremora comes to me and disarms me. My sword falls all the way down. On the floor base, well at least I think so. I never got it back, I was looking for it as crazy, I was out of torches and was too low in illusion for night eye.

I was forced to finish that level with an Akaviri Katana lol.
cryocry
Then why am I never disarmed? Is it because I'm a master in all the skills?
Povuholo
QUOTE(cryocry @ Oct 15 2006, 04:06 AM)

Then why am I never disarmed? Is it because I'm a master in all the skills?

At very low levels it never happens because their weapon skill is too low. But since you are a master in all the skills they should be high enough. Maybe your opponents don't do that many sideway power attacks? The chance of disarming is pretty small too. And it won't happen with creatures that don't use weapons of course...

Sorry if this is a spoiler, but where is the statue in Bruma, I can't find it anywhere in the city.

Has been answered already in the thread, but whatever. It's just left of one of the gates (inside bruma, not outside). I don't know which one, I'm guessing north.

Edit: The Vulture, what the? How come you post something a minute before I do so again, and once again in the same thread about the same question??? huh.gif What a coincidence...
Silent Steps
Thanks I found it. The statue is pretty good. I have decent armour on.
Rhydderch Hael
How long does it take for the statue to manifest itself? A certain amount of time after the Battle of Bruma, or the Main Quest itself? Does it coincide with the receipt of the Imperial Dragon Armor?
Stampede
I could be mistaken, but I've heard it happens when you step into the Great Gate that opens in front of Bruma.

Ahem, with that being said, we seem to have deviated from the point of this thread. The questions here were meant to be rhetorical and tongue in cheek more than anything else.

Please put all quest related questions in the spoilers section.

Many thanks!
Rhydderch Hael
In keeping with theme— that answer did not help in any way whatsoever.

New question: Is Hermaeus Mora really the ancestor of Kang and Kodos? Instead of invading Earth, are they really re-taking Nirn in the name of the Daedra?

Erm - in what way didn't it help?

QUOTE(Malchik @ Oct 18 2006, 02:31 PM)

Erm - in what way didn't it help?

A lamentable case of wrong time, wrong place.

I wanted to experiment and discover just when and where the game takes an image of your character and uses it to model the statue. All previous accounts I've heard had me believing the statue would be erected at the actual battle site (once they cleared the wreckage, of course).

So there I am, looking over the lifeless hulk of a Daedric Siege Crawler and wondering just when the statue is going to pop up, and lo and behold, the thing turns up much less imposing in stature— as well as being in the wrong place.

Worst of all, so much time has passed that I cannot re-engaqe in the Battle of Bruma and figure out when the game images the model— 1) when you receive a certain quest update; 2) when you enter the Great Gate; 3) when you grab the Great Sigil Stone. Just as my luck would play out— I'll never find out myself.

By the by, the game imaged my character wielding an Steel Claymore (which is fine and dandy, unless your character is primarily an archer— which she is!) and is wearing a Chainmail helmet. I cannot recall at any point during battle where my character wore both a Chainmail helmet and fought with a claymore at the same time.

So I guess my cheeky, irrelevant question this turn is: who did the people of Bruma commission to make the statue? I've got an assassin who'd like to trade a few words with that unskilled dolt.

...Despite compliments to the contrary, it doesn't even look like her.
Tessera
It's possible that the game takes a look at whatever gear you have in your inventory... and then makes an arbitrary choice based upon your total selection of stuff when it creates your statue.

You've inspired me to test this out. When I have some spare time, I think I'll save a game right before that section of the MQ, then take turns storing this or that piece of my character's gear before I actually head into the Great Gate. In other words, stash some gear in a storage chest first, then do the Gate, then reload, stash some other bit of her gear and do it again, etc. etc. I'm curious as to what it bases its decisions upon.

Of course, this also opens the possibility for an amoral prankster like me to force the creation of a naked statue of my elf in Bruma...

...oh, I am *so* gonna try that now. Should make for an interesting screenshot... LOL. laugh.gif

Hmmm... they certainly look like Mora. Could be. But was Hermaeus Mora intended to look like Kang (or Kodos)? If so, why doesn't he sound like them?

My questions-

1. Does Atmora have penguins? Or polar bears?

2. If there is an expansion pack (after Knights of the Nine) staged in Elsweyr, will we be able to play all kinds of Khajiit? And will they rename the current Khajiit to what it is?

3. Why don't the followers of a Daedroth (singular form of Daedra) attack you if you dishonor the shrine (ex., casting a fire ball at it, slashing it with a sword, etc.)?

4. In the vanilla game, why can't you get water from wells?

5. Why does everyone support what the Elder Council does? Why does no one try to over throw the Elder Council?

6. Why did they make it so some armors are unplayable in the vanilla game?

7. Why are the cities of Cyrodiil in separate cells?

8. Why can't we enchant arrows?

9. Why can't we pay for transportation?

10. How does a novice at Security know what a lock looks like inside?

11. Why aren't settlements on the map?

12. Why do you go slow when you wear a Black Hand Robe?

13. How did the Imperial Army conquer the rest of Tamriel, if I can take it down by my self?

14. Why are there no bathrooms, and why does no one go on the side of the road?

15. How do people come across Dwarven weapons? I've never found any in ruins, and I'm at level 40 (is that it?)!

16. Why doesn't Manimarco look like a slug?

17. What is in Morrowind that makes Dark Elves sound tough? I want to play one, but they sound like wussies!

18. When you're a guy, why do other guys say, "I have a feeling that you and I are about to become very close!"? Unsurprisingly, it's only the Wood Elven guys that say that to you (I don't mind the women saying it to me, because we do!)!

19. How does the Bruma guard close Oblivion gate if none open?

20. Why does Ebony armor make me go slow, but Daedric doesn't? Daedric armor has more in it!

21. How do arrows stick out of a guy's gut if I shot him in the head?

I can't think of any more.

What are the seven aphorisms of Akatosh, and what do they mean?
Marxist ßastard
The first aphorism of Akatosh is "anything Bethesda left out of the game is new content."

Aphorisms two through seven are going to be in the next DRMed plugin, The Seven Aphorisms of Akatosh.

Are the daedra just slobs or do they like oblivion to look like a pig-sty? Why aren't some of the impireal forts STILL IN USE? Is the player the only one born under a birthsign? Why do you get to loot the barrels and crates in the IC now, whereas in Morrowind that was stealing? (how I made my first few thousand in morrowind) Why dont history books mention the nerevarine more? And why do the daedric shrines to, say, the webspinner... why are they allowed? (in morrowind I was under the impression that such things... daedric worship... were outlawed.)

Was it? I think most of the crates (In Balmora, that is) can be looted without it counting as stealing. As long as they aren't inside of course.

Depends on the town. Balmora and Pelagiad, any outdoor containers are fair game, although there ARE owned loose items in Balmora. Anything in St. Olms, St. Delyn, and Foreign Quarter plazas is public property, while the Great House cantons have a mix of Great House-owned and public crates.

something else I was wondering... why doesn't the game have dismemberment?

It really would have improved the game... I think, anyway.

Its a bit of a cliche in fantasy books and games

oh, and dismemberment would bump up the game rating quite a bit. Bethseda wanted as many people to be able to play it as possible. It also needs a high enough spec pc anyway without adding extra combat animations rolleyes.gif

Actually, it can only be worn by the Dragonborn. The Septim bloodline was proven to be of the Dragonborn, but does not neccessarily exclude another family line descended from St. Alessia.

1)Whilst sneaking around, how can NPCs still look at you with a smile?

2)Why don't the NPC's change their clothes?

3)How come the "kids" look older then you?

4)Why are the animals so suicidal? IE, they see you, try to run away, jump right off that there cliff, like a lemming

5)Why is there a mysterious barriar seperating you from other lands? Why did i cross that barriar in my game, and see nothing except marshlands and trees?

6)i also know why they lack intimacy.. well, besides the Foc's'le innkeeper, and Falanu Hlaalu, but i've never seen the latter in the graveyard.

7)Who makes the Goblin's outfits?

8)Why is the PC 'talkative' to others, but you can't hear his words? Except when he/she grunts whilst being hit?

9)Why do they taunt you, when they know that they'll usually get an arrow through the neck for comparing your speed to that of a pregnant cow?

10)Why do the 'conversations' all sound the same? Why do they make no sense?

Dawn Agent 1: Well Met
Dawn Agent 2: How goes it?
Dawn Agent 1: They Say that King Helseth has formed an alliance with House Dres, and together, they pick apart the carcass of ruined Indoril

As I recall, one such Sneak book makes mention of the use of shadow to maintain stealth, so they can "teach" you the better use of the skill.

I am keenly interested in finding training tomes for the Blade skill akin to the "Mace Fighting" book I read once, just to see their take on a "lesson in swordfighting". Alas, I do not recall finding any book of that nature in my travels. I just want to see if the advice they give is any good compared to what I already know about medieval swordfighting.

I don't know how I can ask this without it having some SPOILERS, so here goes:

Maybe this has already been proven correct or not, but you know a certain vampire in the Dark Brotherhood? He states garlic debilitates him or somethin, so when I had to take him out I snuck up to his bed and put some garlic in his pocket. When I shot an arrow through his face he woke up, but he was waaay easier to kill than all the other members. So is this beacuse of the garlic or is it because he just plain sucks?

This thread isn't about answering one's difficulties in gameplay, but to bring to light the imponderables created the the story or gameworld.

Like: could it be that Jalbert is Treyvond's brother? Because as Trey says, "...you don't see many Redguards practicing magic...", but lo and behold, there's this Redguard necromancer hiding out in the Heartlands. Could it be that the reason why Trevond hates necromancy so much is because of the path Jalbert took?
