The message came to me when I killed the first Sigil Keeper (in the first oblivion gate) or when I killed a wandering Dremora in that same gate, I can't remember exactly. It came to me quite as a surprise, as I can't really imagine how my "cold blooded murder" could have been sighted by anyone. biggrin.gif Except if the soldier trapped in the cage next to the Sigil Keeper is actually a member of Dark Brotherhood? But how did he contact the others if he was in a cage in the plane of Oblivion, with the Oblivion gate shut? biggrin.gif

Sithis sees all...

*ahem*

Well, I used the um...'Unfriendly Competition' quest in the Imperial City.

When I got to the last part (in the mausoleum, Agarmir and his guard friend) I sneaked through the door stooped down on the stairs in the dark, nocked an arrow and let it fly into the head of Agarmir's guard friend. Then I got the message. Lucien visited me, and the rest is history.

Although, with my first EVER character, I killed a vagrant in the IC. Then killed Lucien when he came to visit me in Anvil.
ninja_lord666
You people are constantly surprised by the message telling you that someone saw you. There isn't any sort of person who follows you and watches to see if you kill someone, Sithis sees you. How you can think it's a real person is beyond me. Sithis tells the Night Mother who tells the Listener who tells a Speaker, in this case Lucien, who visits you.
Sovietlukmanov
By Sithis! I just knew that it was Sithis watching us all along!

so.. um... Sithis tells the Night Mother to tell the listener to tell the speaker to contact the murderer? wacko.gif

interesting..... sweat.gif

Getting message by killing random Dremora is not 'normal'. I think it's related to MOD conflicts or some bug. I also saw that, and I got in DB, but I had to reboot my game because I saw Martin & gang(^_^) was running around Sancre Tor after I retrieved Tiber Septim's armor...
Xeniorn
First time I played Oblivion I played with a clean installation, without any mods. I got the message at the same time. So it couldn't have been a mod conflict. I do wonder what it *could* have been, but since I experienced no problems later in the game the first time I played, I presume no problems will occur this time either.
Sovietlukmanov
Maybe you killed him before he gets aggressive?

he was supposed to talk to you before attacking unlike any other Dremora there. So he is technically "friendly" before he talks to you, and killing a non-hostile, is technically "murder"

never got that bug though...

I "murdered" the Gray Prince in a so called "fight"

When he realizes he's a descendant of a vampire he wanted me to kill him. Although it is officially a fight, he has no intention of fighting back, and is non-hostile, or precisely, friendly. Anyways, I laid his body in the center of the arena, put his sword and shield beside him, and walk slowly leaving the arena......
Xeniorn
You mean, you dragged his body through the dirt, people cheering, and then arrogantly denied your right to take his apparel and weapons? wink.gif
Sovietlukmanov
[sarcasm] well I dragged him through the dirt and let the people watch as I dropped him in disgrace at the center of the arena[/sarcasm]

no... I respect the man confused.gif no... orc, after everything passed, he was very convincing that he as a good man... ehm... orc. So I respected him, and carried him (though Oblivion engine only allows me to drag him sweat.gif ) and laid him at the center.....

well I did took his raiment, it was required after all...
no racism meant...

Many? There are only nineteen beggars. Also, with one beggar dead, you'll never be able to train from the master speechcraft trainer...
}{ellKnight
What for? After you get passed 50-75 there's no point in training Speechcraft unless you just want to waste money...

If you talk to the beggar before you take them out, you can complete the quest to unlock the Master Speechcraft Trainer. I had a character complete it despite the fact that Luckless Lucinia was long gone.

Not me, personally, but you can't say that no one chooses it.

I've finally made an evil, eee-vil bastard of a Khajiit and am looking to join the guild of murderers.

To all those who have already joined the DB, who did you kill to gain entry?

Spoilers:

I did the gray prince's quest and when I got around to fighting him, he sat there and cried... begging me to kill him. I cannot remember if that was the one, or towards the end of the fighters's guild quest I got buigged and credited for a murder there.

This one is by far the easiest person to kill to get into the DB. It doesn't even count against you (as far as the guards are concerned), but you do get the occasional "I know your kind, murderer". It bothered me as I hadn't intended to play evil, but once that occured, I just went all out (even using "The Vile Lair").
I'd recomend him to anyone wanting to join. But of course, he's mentioned more than once in this thread, so many do him in for this reason ^_^

My little vesion of a Spellblade got credit for murder while attempting to aid Kvatch in lowering their drawbridge. That stupid Kvatch guard who has the key kept body blokcing my swings on the enemy in the Chapel Undercroft. The next thing I knew the Imperial Legion was shouting cries of murder and the Brotherhood became aware of me.

I still don't feel bad about killing that dip. Anyone who deliberately pushes their way up past me try and whack on a mob I'm already got toe-to-toe and in a corner -- I'm thinking they don't value thier life anyway. The poor dip was probably just sad about his recent tragedy (no telling what kind or how large a group of family and friends he had that got wiped out from the 'Seige').

But that was the beginning of that character's fall from grace and into a pratical (and less bound by Ideals) killer. later on he would walk the path of the Nine (the pilgramage and give up his duties as Listener of the Brotherhood). However, the DB mission in Skingrad (the 'party' in the mansion) was definately my favorite quest in the game i've experienced so far. smile.gif
meaminotaur
i killed eyja the servant for your house in skingrad I hired her then when she was sleeping she rolled off the bed and onto a knife.... at least thats what i told the guards ninja.gif

also once i was going into a inn in bravil and this wood elf dude attacked the guy who imprisoned the breton in fort sutch for the hunters run anyway... they ran out onto the streets while fighting and the wood elf won and I was really pissed off cause 1. I needed the orc guy for the quest 2. I lost my crusader armor and 3. I lost half of my gold paying the fine cause i stole lots of stuff. wallbash.gif wallbash.gif wallbash.gif wallbash.gif

after that with my imperial i had 0 imfamy and 67 fame and he was level 3 so i was running around and a similar incident happend to him with what happend to my orc crusader he went to the shivering ilses gate and then he got blamed for the death of the crazy dark elf THANKS FOR COVERING FOR ME FORGOTTEN NAME OF THE BRAVIL GUARD! verymad.gif

He started getting grumpy and he walked away and he fell...

TheOpening
Actually guys you do not have to kill a specific person

it just cannot be a gaurd and it has to be when no one is looking or an "Innocent" (Peasants)

when you are done killing them youll get a message

"Your action has been whitnessed by unseen forces"

or somthing

then go to sleep in a private area and then lucian will hook you up

If you need any help on all things brother hood just ask me, i have beatin it about 4 times going on 5th

i love the darkbro hood

Sure it can, I killed a guard to join the second or third time, and I killed a peasant in broad daylight with an innocent and a Dark Seducer watching the fifth or sixth time.

Do you know I always kill him as requested (and as I am repeatedly testing the mod Pov and I are doing that is far too often) and never once has Lucien appeared. But there are different ways of killing him and so perhaps some count as murder and some not. I always push him off the parapet which is what is expected in the game and that may not count as murder.

That must be it; I shot him with an arrow. When you push him, the fall kills him. When I shoot him, I kill him.

I'm not sure, but it might have been Mephala's quest. If it was, the irony is palpable.

I cast "Demoralize" on my first Arena opponent; I had no idea that killing her while she was under that effect would count as a murder. I'm glad that it did, though (I don't normally kill off town NPCs, as that would make the thinly populated cities even more empty).
MntyH
Shara, my female Bosmer sneaky type, killed the female half-orc house guard of Umbacano, the Ayleid Artifacts Collector. (I'm sure she had a name, but I wasn't bothered to find out what it was)

I rather like to get in character when I play, so even though I knew about the DB when I started my first game, I didn't just go out and kill some random beggar so I could immediately join up...
Just because -I- knew about the DB, didn't mean my character did.

So she joined the thieves guild, and got up to where she needed a ton of fenced goods so she could start doing missions for the Grey Fox... oh, hey... that Umbacano fellow had lots of nice loot in HIS house...

So she tried sneaking in, and his door guard caught her. Well, first time she just swallowed her pride (her sneak skill was pretty darn high at that point, and was using about 25% chameleon or so) and left to try again another time.
But the second time, she got caught right away again.
It rather annoyed her.
So she disposed of the problem.

The next night, ol what's his face pops in for a visit... Now, Shara isn't particularly evil... just an opportunist. And this seemed to be an opportunity that she should at least explore to see how lucrative it was.

Besides, she's pretty sure everyone marked for assassination by the DB must have it coming anyway....
Right? wink.gif

For me it was a beggar. Anyone who spends alot of time on the waterfront will know that there are two beggars that sleep by where Armond Christophe gives you the Theives Guild Initiation quest. One of the beggars is marked as an essential npc and can't be killed but the other one can be.

I snuck up on him in the dead of night and introduced him to the blade of my sword. To recieve Lucien's invitation i then slept in the bed the beggar had so graciously vacated(despite the fact that i had a house within 50 feet).
