I get an Active Movie window that pops up and minimizes my main Morrowind playing window, this is very annoying. No movies play, it just pops up, I close it then click on my main Morrowind icon on my taskbar and it comes back up and works. Does anyone else get this, or can anyone help me get rid of this issue?

Thanks,

That sounds odd...

Do you have any background applications running?

try pressing ctrl+alt+del when the window pops up and see what the name of it is in the task manager. then look for something in the taskbar with a similar name and try closing it (or look for it in processes and close it)

alternatively if u have a lot of stuff coming up at startup, u cud try doing start->run->msconfig. click the startup tab and u can disable stuff to stop them from starting when u start up ur computer

I ran the msconfig and disabled all kinds of stuff to see if that would work, I also checked atrl-alt-delete and no go. The file is generated from within Morrowind and is an Active Movie "window." It happens when I kill a creature for the first time it seems, then maybe again, and it goes away until I kill another creature or reach a point where it spawns again. Any ideas?

ok... now THATS wierd. have u got the latest patches for morrowind/latest drivers for ur video card? also u cud try downloading the latest version of directx
rhartell2000
I have the latest patches for Morrowind, including Bloodmoon and Tibunal, the newest DirectX, and best video drivers for my card. I wonder if it may have something to do with this section in the morrowind.ini file?

[Movies]
Company Logo=bethesda logo.bik
Morrowind Logo=mw_logo.bik
New Game=mw_intro.bik
Loading=mw_load.bik
Options Menu=mw_menu.bik

Is there a way to enable or disable the program within morrowind that plays these movie files, or do you know of a place in the registry this is enabled, disabled or referred to?

I think I may have found the problem.

I searched in my registry and found an entry labelled as "active movie" and removed it. Im going to try out running Morrowind now to see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks for your help guys.

Well, that didnt fix it, back to the drawing board. The active movie is definitely running in Morrowind. I checked the ctrl-alt-delete and it pointed to the morrowind.exe file. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I copied over the movies to the game directory, may try a video folder, not sure there, I also changed my default morrowind.ini file to a tweaked out file. I may have to re-install the game, which really shouldnt be thatmuch of a pain, but Im sick of the movies coming up :-| Will update this when I play next.

Finally, I found the error, it was on http://support.bethsoft.com/ 's website. Here is a cut form the website:
Q: I am getting an Active Movie error message in Morrowind.
A: This error is usually caused by a CODEC such as VoSub, ELECARD MPEG 2 Video Decoder, Mega Codec Pac, or others attempting to access the video portions of Morrowind. Uninstall any of these third party CODECs to correct the issue.
Note: If after uninstalling one of these CODECs Morrowind crashes at launch, you may need to reinstall the MP3 portion of the CODEC only.

I went into the DirectX VobConfigure and changed it to "never load" instead of always load. If that doesnt work I will simply remove the files excluding the Mp3 portion of the Codec. The program that is causing this I installed is called MegaCodecPack.

I hope this works,

Final Note:
Disabling it in the config file of VobConfig did not work, so instead of uninstalling the whole pack, I went into the directory and rarchived 3 files so they would not work unless I unrarchive them, this way I can still watch movies or whatever regularly as needed when it calls on these files without uninstalling, and dont have to deal with the active movie screen popping up in Morrowind anymore.

Glad you got that one sorted out smile.gif

It was definitely one of the weirder Morrowind problems I'd heard of...
