Can someone explain the differences between the Battlemage, Witchhunter, Spellsword and Nightblade classes ? In particular, which attributes are aligne dwith each class. Also, is there an online reference about this topic in general ?

Eh if you hover your mouse over a skill dosent it tell you what attribute its linked to? i know battlemages use conjuration primarily and nightblades are more stealth based, as for witch hunters i havent a clue.

I play a custom class "Ninja" and i just use alchemy or scrolls and enchantments when i need to waterwalk or levitate or chameleon or whatever.

I'm still waiting for the game in the mail and I'm just doing a little planning for my character. I have the manual in pdf and a lot of online resources but none explain this class affinity thing. I have not decided on anything about my character except that he will be primarily a mage and probably minor as some sort of fighter. Will probably have some marksman as well.

u can just make ur own custom class once in game with a random combination of skills. works quite well as u get exactly the char u want (not a single one of my chars have pre-generated classes) ^_^

Me neither. Think what sharpdog may mean is what attributes do you get your starting bonuses to and/or what set of skills you get the +5 bonus to (magic, combat or stealth)

Would geuss that battlemage, nightblade and spellsword are the magic/stealth/combat +5 bonuses respectivly. Not sure about witchhunter or what stats but would guess as follows

Battlemage: Intel and Will
Nightblade: Agl and Int or Will (bnot sure which)

The other two could be any, but int or will (the two stats needed for magic) would be a good geuss. Spellword may be strength (damage)

Personally I may do a pre genned class for mod testing but otherwise I just do custom class

just be sure if you do a class description not to make any typos....unlike me who now instead of having 'arcane' in the description it's 'arnane'.....doh

thumbs up for custom classes though, it really adds a nice dynamic to creating a truely unique character and explore different combinations of skills available in Morrowind.

Mages are pretty straightforward but when you get the game be sure to take a look through the manual and decide which skills you want to invest in. Also reading a description of each of the schools of magic and their major spells will help a lot.

I never did bother with the classes offered by the program; I simply identified the major and minor skills I wanted and that was that.

The different names for the various Mage specialty classes reflect a different mix of skills in major and minor. I cannot tell you what they are. If you have the time and REALLY want to find out, start several games and try each one. You'll then know what skills relate to which sub-class.

There are numerous threads in every forum I inhabit with people asking what combination of: race, birthsign, major and minor skills, and specialty class makes for the best character. The answer is that for every person there is a different answer. I have started 4 times: the first 2 didn't last long; the 3rd finished the main quest and several of the factions; my latest has done everything and several questing mods. Trial and error is the best method.

Well put, I too tried 3 times to make my mage, to put it plainly I like what I have but it could be better...far better but I know if i start over i wouldn't have the patience to see it through....or would i?
