Well, you can put me down as 21 officially, but you might end up having to deal with a 180 year old Drow, or a 132 year old Mog at points.

I am 14 soon to be 15 come December.
I have played some textbased adventure games, and I love them, they are perfect for when I can't decide between a video-game (usually Morrowind) and a book. If I could find a text based RPG I would really like to try it.
Seeing as these forums cover a
very wide range of ages it makes me wonder...
Are there any WWII vets in the Battlefeild 1942 forums? <_<
The wide age range also proved that Bethseda really did a great job making a great game that appeals to all sorts of people.

I'm 38 and loving it!
Forget it when they say that the teenage years are your best. I'm much happier now that my hormones aren't raging (they proceed nicely at a steady pace, thank you very much!) and I've built up some wealth and security.
As for the RPG's -Zork was fun, but do you remember Larn? I used to play that on an Amiga!

Okay - Like I said I'm 43. My first computer was a PDP-8, then upgraded to a PDP-12. I'll give a bonus prize if anyone remembers what kind of disks those took. My first game was a dice rolling game I wrote for my vic-20 (unless you want to count pong for the odyssey system).
For those who don't know - Chainmail was a fantasy combat system that Gary Gygax put out before the original dungeons and dragons was put out. I have campaigns that are older than most of you. Gaack!!!! I'm feeling old! Help me, I need my Ensure!!! Get the O2!!! Okay, okay, panic attack done.
I'm glad I have access to a forum that allows me to interact with everyone. It at least makes me feel young for a while.

My first computer was a PDP-8, then upgraded to a PDP-12. I'll give a bonus prize if anyone remembers what kind of disks those took.
From my recently aquired, sketchy knowledge:
The disk drives were RK03 and RK05, the disks themselves may or may not have the same name as the drives, I don't know. These machines used a magnetic tape called DECtape, I don't know wheter it is the hard drive, part of the disks put into the aforementioned disk drives, or something else altoghether. I only know it was removable, portable, and, unlike other magnetic tapes, it did not suffer from potential loss of data if treated semi-roughly (i.e. droped on the floor), it was also the predecessor to the floppy-disk.
Did you actually own the PDP-8/-12, or was it part of a laboratory? It
was $18,500 for a PDP-8. Also, I assume by "upgraded" you don't mean "bought a new one", but rather the actual meaning of upgrading (adding new parts to increase performance), since only 725 PDP-12 were manufactured.
You need not worry about being old, the way I see it you are a large repertory of historical information, I kind of wish my turned-50-this-year dad was older so I could ask him about even more things, but I think I prefer it this way so I get to keep him for 30 years more, barring something like an accident.
Oh, and could you direct me to some website where I could get some text-based RPGs?
Also that Chainmail game sounds intriguing...
Kethruch
Nov 6 2003, 07:01 AM
Congratulations! I didn't think there were many out there who knew what these even were. Correct on all accounts - though it sounds like you got a little help. The machines were part of a lab. The fun thing about the machines was that they were adapted later to take 12" disks.
Text based RPGs - are you asking for the actual paper and pencil ones Like D&D or the old single player text games for the old computers? (Like Zork)
Adrian Laguna
Nov 6 2003, 10:23 PM
Single player text games for the old computers. Compatible with my Windows XP Home Edition (should have gotten Profesional) of course.
I, unfortunately, cannot find anyone to play Dungeons & Dragons with. People my age just don't seem to have the patience to play that kind game. I can only play chess with my Dad, and he only visits once a month. On top of that Axis & Allies has been collecting dust for almost five years (I asked for it as a birthday present when I was 10),
nobody is interested in playing!

What is wrong with teenagers today!!??
Whew... had to get that out of my system, but it still bugs me, which is strage, considering I am 14.92 years old.

Nov 7 2003, 01:25 AM
Have you looked into our RP section? It's not just Morrowind that is being played. Let's see, 14.92, your birthday is on December 5?

As a note, I owned a PDP-10 (actually, pops did. But that was close enough for me).

to stay on topic:
It seems as if my suspicions are proved, or we have some joking radicals here. We have an age range covered with almost at least 1 person in each category between ages 5 and 70.

It's a dual defined jargon word.
Basically, a pregnant female is more of a "B" than a regular female. Also it tends to most commonly be defined as "Female Canine", so referring to the canine as being pregnant enhances the "pregnant-dogyness" of the word.

Nov 11 2003, 10:36 AM
but strictly speaking, it is a female canine, right? I know quite a few dog breeders and they all use the 'b' word in this sense.
Anyway this is getting OT....
Faust_87
Nov 12 2003, 02:42 PM
Technically "pregnant-dog" is not considered a swear word, its a real word used for female dogs...but when its used to call a woman a "pregnant-dog" it is an insult, because its an insult...i have a dog breeder down the street from me...and she always calls them "pregnant-doges" (the dogs

)
Lol everywhere it says "Pregnant-dog" it should say the "B word"...lol

Being one of your members almost at the "top of the range" - not quite - I agree about the comment on the under 10's. Whilst early acquisition of computer skills is to be anticipated these days, should someone under 10 be sitting indoors playing computer games and joining forums? (Its OK for "pensioners" who maybe can't get out that easy!). Whom can the under-ten who voted be, I wonder?
But, in any case, I thought there was an "age limit" of 12 on Morrowind.

I'm 16, soon to be 17. Though I'd say I'm going on 70 but then agian age NEVER reflects one's maturity. I see people yell at clerks cuz they can't get a stupid discount on their hotel rooms even though they don't qualify for any. Also speeders and tail gaters are imature, and any who do speed/tailgate and say otherwise are imature.
Anyways I'm 16 and so I'm the normal age person here. (Scence some one else necroed the board is this still necromanying on my part, or not?)

Like eggs you mean?
You see, first of all you have to go out. And if you are going out you are not in a position to play Morrowind. Yet if you are on these forums there is a strong probability that you are addicted to Morrowind (or computer games in general). An addict without a daily fix becomes cranky and crabby and generally obnoxious. Under those circumstances even if you do go out the chances of finding someone who'll put up with you is minimal.
Generally a date does not like to be addressed as 'You N'wah!' or 'S'wit' and such chat up lines as 'Would you like to come back and see my Shimsil?' or 'Did you know my weapon is enchanted for extra endurance?' can be misunderstood by the uninitiated.
Should you nevertheless get lucky, the moment she discovers your penchant for furry underpants, all hope is lost. (In fact this does not work in reverse, men are seldom turned off by women wearing nothing but fur next to the skin.)
My advice is to smash your computer to smithereens (hacking into it, as it were) or simply the games on it. Take two months in therapy to get over the withdrawal symptoms and start life afresh.
Otherwise...
You'd just better wait until virtual reality becomes a lot more real and less virtuous - er - I mean virtual!
