I'm not sure what I did, but one time I right-clicked to bring up my menus and then right-clicked again to get rid of them once I was done with them and the map stayed up and I can't get it to go away. What did I do and how do I fix this?

In the top-right corner of the map window (might be top-left, it's been a while), there's a button, which should currently be indented. Right click to bring the menus up, and then click the indented bit in the corner of the map window, and that should stop it from overlaying normal gameplay.
