Dark0ne
Hi folks,

It seems that a very small percentage of users are having problems logging into Nexus sites. This post is here to help troubleshoot your problems and hopefully get logged into the site and downloading files.

NOTE: TESNexus users please make sure you are accessing tesnexus.com and NOT tessource.net.

How the site login works
When you try to login to your account the username and password you specify are queried against the forum's username and password database. If your details are accepted then a cookie is created on your computer that stores impersonal information regarding your account. This information includes your user id on the forums and the time you login. Note that logging into the site and logging into the forums are completely different despite the fact they share the same username and password. For instance being logged into the forums does not mean you're logged into the site, and vice-versa.

Basic requirements
- Nexus Sites are coded to work with IE and Fire Fox. I do not provide any support for "exotic" browsers (including Opera) and cannot tell you whether it works on your browser or not.
- You must make sure that your computer allows 3rd party cookies for any Nexus site you would like to login to. Make sure this is enabled on both your browser AND your firewall (Zone Alarm has been known to cause issues with 3rd party cookies). No cookies = no login!
- You must have javascript and redirects enabled in your browser.

Two types of errors
There are two common types of errors for people trying to login. The first is that your username and/or password have not been accepted and you'll be sent back to the login page with a new "information" box below the login area. This happens because for some reason or other the forum database could not validate your username or password and therefore would not log you in to the site.

The second is that your details were accepted but you were sent back to the login page without an error.

Fixing incorrect login problems
First of all try logging into these forums. If you cannot login to the forums then request a new password.

If you can login to the forums but not the site then you should check to see if there is an apostrophe, backslash or other "abnormal" character in your username AND/OR password. Abnormal characters include "; ' @ ~ / \ | ! `". If you have one of these characters in your username then please request your account be deleted so you can make a new one without these characters in. However if your password contains one of these characters then you can easily change your password by going to your "My Controls" page on the forums.

If you don't fit under that category then please try changing your password anyway, this has been known to work before for some people.

If this still does not fix your problem and you are still getting a login incorrect error message then please send me a personal message with your password in it so that I can troubleshoot this problem further.

Fixing "not staying logged on" problems
If you're having difficulty staying logged onto the site then this is normally a problem with your browser not allowing the site to create cookies. If you have plugins such as "NoScript" or "AdBlock" then this is your likely problem and such addons are not supported by Nexus staff. Your browser MUST allow Nexus sites to create this cookie else you will not be able to login to the site, its how the login system works.

Here's how to check cookie settings for Internet Explorer and Fire Fox.

Fire Fox (preferred browser of Nexus sites)
1. Go to "Tools" -> "Options"
2. Go to "Privacy"
3. Verify "Allow sites to set cookies", "Accept third-party cookies" checkbox is ticked and the "Keep cookies until they expire" options is also selected

This is the default Fire Fox setup. If that does not work then try clearing your cookies and then trying again. Note that this will remove all cookies for all sites on Fire Fox.

If this does not work then:

1. Go to "Tools" -> "Options"
2. Go to "Privacy"
3. Click "Exceptions"
4. Add "fallout3nexus.com" to the text box and click the "Allow" button.

Internet Explorer
1. Go to "Tools" -> "Internet Options"
2. Go to "Privacy" and make sure the slider is set to "Medium" (This is the IE default)

Try logging in again. If this does not work then follow these steps:

1. Go to "Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> "Privacy"
2. Click the "Sites..." button
3. Enter "tesnexus.com" and click the "Allow" button

Now try again.

If you are still having problems then it could be you have installed an over-zealous security system on your PC that blocks cookies that don't have special digital signing (that normally requires money to setup for sites). Try disabling any firewall or anti-virus software or hardware you have just for a minute and accessing the site to ascertain whether it is any software or hardware on/in your PC.

Email verification
If you do not receive the email verification and you are sure it is not located in your SPAM folder or your ISP/MailServer's SPAM folder, then try one of the following free mail servers that are known to work with the registration process:Still having problems? Then I'm sorry, I really cannot help any further.

"not staying logged on" - More for Fire Fox
If you are a bit paranoid and don't like every site to set cookies, you wont be happy to set "Allow sites to set cookies". Instead you may want to use a cookie manager like CookieSafe.
This can end in not being able to download big files. It happens when your exception is set to "www.tessource.net" cause big files come from "big.tessource.net". Two ways you can fix this:

The cookie manager thing
1. Go to the options of your cookie manager
2. Let it "ignore subdomains"

If you dont want to ignore subdomains, too:
3. Disallow the site and allow it again -> your cookie manager will add "tessource.net"
4. Let it "ignore subdomains" again.

The manual way

1. Delete the "www.tessource.net" exception
2. Manually allow "tessource.net"

[font=Arial]Dark one, thanks for all you do for the TES community. You are a true testament to what we should model ourselves in helping the comunity. I jave been having issues with not being able to keep my log in. I read the topic and have done as you asked. I log into my acount and then try to download Ruined tale for Oblivion. As I attempt to download it, the screen goes back to the log in area. Please help me with this problem. I have an acount called cjk. If it could be deleated it would be very apreciated. I want to start a new acount as this may fix the problem. I ask of you this because when I attempt to delete it myself, it doesent delete for whatever reason. Thanks for your time friend, you have done much and should be respected for it. Excuse my language but I have never been a kiss butt of any sort. However, I know the dutys of an Admin and you should be respected for your efforts.

How do we find out what our username is so we can log into the file network and download some frigging files?

Haven't a display name and a seperate username is the stupidest idea ever.

"(Zone Alarm has been known to cause issues with 3rd party cookies)"

After getting my login to work fine on Tessource, I was having problems with staying logged in from page to page, I turned off the cookie control in Zone Alarm and had no problems after that, so if you are using a software firewall with cookie controls try turning them off for the session. You can always set it back on after you get your files.
Povuholo
Maybe you should add that trying to log in at Tessource.com won't work? I see the site being referred to as Tessource.com pretty often, and if you try to log on at the .com adress you'll get a blank page or you won't log in. When you go to Tessource.com and click on the login at the quick links section it will change the adress to .net, but it won't when clicking on the link at ' Log-In
You are not currently logged-in. You must log-in (link) to access files.'

Changing that is also an option.
Mr_Tea
You should fix this site, really.
Tessource worked for me without problems, suddenly i can`t stay logged in. Firefox and IE have the same problems, i have authorized tessource again to set cookies in Firefox, the problem is still there.
Even under Vista with standart IE settings nothing changes, 2 Operating Systems and 3 different browsers can`t handle tessource any longer.
Before it worked fine, what have you changed? Don`t say nothing.

Edit:
You realy shouldn`t advise people to go online without firewall and anti-virus, even for a minute.

I have not changed the firewall, theire settings or the anti-virus software i use.
Some setting of this site have been changed, and is responsible to those problems.
Dark0ne
Haven't changed the login system for the site in quite a while; probably been about 6 months now.

All display names have been reset to the proper usernames now, i.e. ShadowFighter_15 is your username

Thank you, Dark0ne.

Same here, thanks. As I said, that was driving me nuts.

Hi,

I can successfully log in to this forum, but I can't login to tessource.net site. Of course, there's '@' character in my login, because I'm asked for e-mail and password in the login screen of the forum. As far as it is logical, the same login should be used to log in to source sites.
What should I do?

Regards
Dark0ne
You use your username, not your email, to login to Source sites.

So my username is galatei, right? Unfortunately it still doesn't work. Can't log in to tessource.net.

M'Aiq
Hi, I'm having alot of trouble logging in to tessource with my M'Aiq account. I can log in on my other account, but this one gives me errors saying that my computer has some problem with cookies. I've even tried it on other computers with the same result. Also, it was working just fine a couple of hours ago, and now I can't get in. And on top of that, I really need to delete an old dysfunctional mod that I uploaded on the M'Aiq account, but I can't....

Hi there.

When I try to log on to SupCom source, I get the following error message:

QUOTE
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/forum/public_html/sources/handlers/han_parse_bbcode.php on line 380

Any fix or work around I could use?

Thanks in advance.

I'm getting this same error...

The fact that you have to login for a mere 2mb is possibly the most moronic thing I've ever seen online, if not its at least in the top 10.

Ever since I started using this sight if I let any antispieware program delete a certain Godlike Cookie I can log in to the Tessource sight and get the samll files all day but I cannot get large files. I delete all my cookies and mess up all my other sights and that does no good. I delete all my cashed content and that is no good. The only thing that used to work was getting a new password. Now even that wont work. I am logged it to tessource and the forum with my 7th password in like 4 years but I can only access the small files.

The latest culprit was a yahoo tollbar antispi thing that I tested last knight. The damed thing got that cookie and here I am again on my 4th hour of frustration.

I am not blocking any cookies. My firewall can't block cookies. I am not blocking any scripts. I just cant get that cookie related to the large files. If I could figure out what it was I would set security on that file so high that even the devil couldn't delete the thing.

UPDATE: I cant believe this I typed Sativarg in instead of sativarg just to see what would happen. I got in ? It works now? but the page I kept getting sent to said I was logged in as sativarg not Sativarg. I'm so confused.....
ElizabethLestrad
OK, Im getting really the heck annoyed. I uninstalled (though add/remove programs) all anti-spyware and anti-virus programs, overrode the cookie settings to always allow cookies (even session cookies), I added tessource.net to allowed sites for cookies, and I set all my security and privacy settings on the lowest settings possible, disabled windows xp firewall, and cleared out all temp internet files, AND turned off the anti-phishing and anti-popup software in IE and I STILL cant login to TESSOURCE.NET because of some dumb cookie. Ive never had this problem before until just today, and now I hear many people are having the same problem. Has ANYONE found a fix for this?

Id really hate to have to reformat my computer, reinstall everything, and try again just to get the darn thing working. I'll try that this weekend, and if that doesnt work, its got to be the website because theres no other explination for it.

The only way a reinstall could work is if you have some thing blocking the tessource content.

I disabled my spywareblaster modifications to the host file and my addblock plus then I tried capitalizing my user name and all the sudden I was in. You might try removing all the cookies and getting a new password with the recovery form. make sure you are logging into the tessource page and not just the forum. if you see the word login under the word members on the left side of the screen you are not in.
If you already knew this then I am truly sorry I couldn't help.
Sonofmother
I have also had problems loging in the last couple of days, before that everything worked. I keep getting sent to this "how to allow cookies" website even though I havent changed any settings or installed any new security updates/programs for a long time. Tryed all the tips on the website I get sent to, nothing seems to get me logged into that website :/
Dark0ne
Changes were made to the cookie/login scripts last night due to a script kiddie with far too much time on her hands. Security has now been increased a little to stop these adolescent dolts.

For the people having problems logging into TESSource: go to http://members.gamingsource.net and login with your username and password on that site. Browse around your member area and see if it keeps you logged in as you go from page to page. If it does (or doesn't) please come back here and report so I can narrow down the culprit for your problems.
Dark0ne
Ok, I fixed an issue with the case sensitivity of the username. You can now login without it being case sensitive. Give it a go now.
Sonofmother
Thank you, works fine now :)

I can't download any of the larger mods. My account logs in and out when I go from page to page. Whenever I try to download the larger mods a screen pops up for a login, whenever I put my information in the screen flashes and the login screen is empty asking for me to do it again. I've tried deleting cookies, taking my anti-virus and firewall down (a scary thought), allowing the sight with IE, changing my password, and even making a new account. But none of it seems to work, they don't change a thing whatsoever.

Is there any OTHER way I can access this site and you know... ... do what the site was meant to do.
Paul Emil
I thought that with the advent of the new site, I'd need a new account ( ohmy.gif ). So i tried making a new account with all the old info, and it said my password was being used by another user. I immedately came to the logical conclusion that someone was stealing my email! Uh, yeah. I was stealing my email address. Robin, gods bless his little cotton socks, kept all the account data! Hooray!

FYI - I updated the 1st post to include one more invalid character that causes login problems which is the exclamation mark.

I just finished helping Scorched! trouble-shoot his login problems and verified that it was a problem with the account and not with his computer, browsers, anti-virus, anti-spyware or firewall. He now has a new account called 5c0rch and is working fine.

Original Problem:
Signed up with the account called Scorched! Could login to the forums without any problem. Could login to TESNexus but would be re-directed to a "banned.php" page stating this is due to cookies not being enabled or the account is locked.

Solution to the Problem:
  • Visit mail.google.com
  • Signup for a temporary email account
  • Modify your existing account to use the temp email
  • Register on TESNexus with a new account without invalid characters and with your original email
  • Forget that your original account ever existed wink.gif

Hello! Iīm a new member and had a problem with the e-mail verification: There was no e-mail verification in my e-mail.
And i donīt know why! So, let me say: DAMN GMX! wallbash.gif
So, i tried a other e-mail system: googlemail. And, tadaa! E-mal verification! thumbsup.gif

Solution: Forget GMX! Nothing against it but it is just a dumb e-mail system!

Was just writing it for the other GMX-users who wants to join this forum biggrin.gif

The problem is that your email server blocked the verification email as spam.....if this happens just contact either myself or LHammonds and we can manually validate your account.

Buddah

I am Buddah at the ESF, and Lhammonds is Conan_Lon, we will do all we can.
DarkKismeth
I donīt doubt it that you do anything for us users to help and all.
The only thing was, that GMX have a extra SPAM-folder for such things and it doesnīt happen that the verification was in that folder. And googlemail have such a folder too but the verification was in the normal e-mail folder. So, very strange in my sight but atleast iīm in. Some things are and will be a mysterium.
Dark0ne
It does seem that quite a few providers are blocking the emails entirely i.e. not even putting the emails in the SPAM folder. I have no idea why this is at all and I'm not quite sure what I can do about it.

I will be looking into coding a new system relatively soon for people with this problem that will involve creating an account then sending me an email with a randomized message. I obviously need a way of verify the email accounts people use actually exist but that also doesn't take an hour a day to deal with.
thiosk2
After quite some time of trying to gain access to this site-- and failing miserably-- I have finally succeeded, on my third-choice login name. My standard email network refused the validation email, as did my newly-created gmail account.

Only when finally setting up with a hotmail account was I able to get the validation. If others can't find their validation emails in spam folders, I strongly suggest trying out something like this.
nightgangsta
I too had a huge amount of trouble validating my email. It wouldn't even show up in my spam folder. After several registrations and hours of frustration and cursing, I finally became smart and switched from my sucky AOL email to g-mail. So I'm basically stating a friendly piece of advice to other users: do NOT use AOL email, it is atrocious and will not let in the validation! Use g-mail or something else if even that doesn't work.
LHammonds
The 1st post now has an "Email Validation" section which lists free web mail services that have been verified to work with the TESNexus registration process.

I will research and find other free mail servers, test them and add more as I validate them. This should give you a wide array of possibilities...although a highly recommend GMail as it is the only one that can be configured to use POP3 or IMAP4 connectivity with your client mail program (Outlook, Thunderbird, PMail) above and beyond being able to access via the web-client.

EDIT: Tested:
  • mail.google.com - Verified.
  • mail.yahoo.com - Verified.
  • www.hotmail.com - Verified.
  • www.mail.com - Verified.
  • mail.lycos.com - Verified.
  • www.inbox.com - Verified - Email showed up in SPAM folder but easily visible.

I've been a tesnexus member since it was tessource. I posted my Rhianna companion in January 2007 and she has over 30,000 downloads. My new Rhianna Redux ain't doing too shabby either.

But now, I find that I can't login to the site anymore. (The forums still work.) I get this error message:

QUOTE
Uh oh!
Something bad happened ...

You have not validated your email address yet.

Of course, I validated my email about 1.5 years ago. What happened? And better yet, how can I get access back (with my original account under "Jumonji") so that I can continue to support my mods?

With the demise of Tessource and the rise of tesnexus.....this is a not so uncommon problem, folks can log into the forums, but have trouble with the main site.

A manual validation usually corrects it.

Welcome back into the insanity! ! ! !
Nimstowl
Hi there. I'm having the problem you have listed (can log into forums but not into tesnexus).
I have reduced cookie handling to allow all and deleted my baned site list.
Texnexus still will not log me in I enter my name and pw and it just returns to the main page, not loged in. I try to revalidate but it says my account does not need it. Any help ?
Dark0ne
Does your password have any "special" characters in it? Apostrophes, @ signs, quotes, exclamation marks, etc.? Do you have a firewall and is it an "internet security suite" blanket type program? Both of these can be issues.
Ipsewas
(Nimstowl here)(I locked out my account because i forgot i changed the password on it) No no special charecters and no i have no firewalls or anything of that kind. I have tried using diffrent emails to register but neither of the 2 accounts works for tesnexus while both work here on the forums.

It acts exactly as if my cookies arnt enabled but the list of sites is empty and its set to accept all cookies.
Nimstowl
If I was to guess I messed up the registration on the accounts somehow. But who knows my password is just 1 number and 7 letters (normal stuff). Cookie handleing is set to accept all. Firewalls... I hate them so I dont run any (to include disableing windows firewall).
Isadorox
Hiya!

I'm Isado. And i've been a member for like 6 months. Got some sweet gameplay outta oblivion thanks to all of you! So i come on today to check what else the community has put up and wouldn't ya know it. I can't log in to the Nexus site!

When i login to the Nexus site, it doesn't give me any error messages, it just redirects me to the homepage as if i was logged in, but i'm not! If i login with the wrong password for example it tells me it's wrong. I made a new account and that one does the same thing. What's up with that?!

-PS- I've made sure the cookie thing is good, and i disabled my firewall and everything it says to do for IE.
-PSPS- I checked my settings and it said the cookies were accepted, and i see that no one has answered these posts in months while i'm lookin' at moderators online. I'm startin to get ticked off.
LHammonds
It is possible you got stuck on a re-direct page. If you are on a re-directed page when you try to login, you might very well get logged in but the login process remembers where you were and puts you back on that same page which displays an error.

Try going to http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/today.php

See if it still shows that you are not logged in.

If you still have troubles, try a different web browser such as Firefox.

I've used both IE and Firefox and they do not have problems (that I can tell) with TESNexus.

PS - If you are getting ticked off, you need to walk away and go do something else. From my experience, problems rarely reveal themselves when emotions are flying high. This site and the mods listed today will still be here tomorrow, the next day and the next in the Updates Recently page so you won't miss anything even if you took off for several days at a time. wink.gif

EDIT: Isadorox, if you have been a member for 6 months, why does your profile say you joined today?
