Will you mod your Oblivion before completing the main quest?

Yes, got to mod mod mod!

No, I want an unaltered experience to begin with

I might add a few tweak/convenience mods to begin with
Switch
I would have to go with no. I always love to mess with the vanilla game before I even think about adding mods or modding myself. I figure it should keep me in a gaming trance for the first 2-3 months or so, then once I snap out of it I'll probably start to mod. tongue.gif

This time I'm going to try and fly solo... no huge mod projects. Though someone will probably sucker me into something. ^^;
Malchik
I am already designing something but it will assuredly be put on hold when the game comes out until I have played it at least once. If the game is as good as MW it will keep me fully engrossed for a while. It is also (supposedly) coming out in late March when I will be heavily involved in directing a play. Between the two I don't see much time for modding straight away.
Povuholo
I first want to try every feature (A LOT) before i will go mod with them. I gotta know what things do in game before i start to mod with it. And i just want to see Oblivion, the one thing Bethesda refuses to talk about.
Vaanic~One
I'll go for a "yes".

My first character won't be doing the main quest, but my second will. Add to this the fact that I am already profficient with TESCS...

Cyborg16
I don't usually do much modding --- mostly I just use the CS for tweaking other peoples mods or trying to work out how to do something I can't figure out in-game. So probably the answer is no...
Especially since I already have two non-oblivion related projects (one using UT2004 and another just my own source).
Bug fixes/atmospheric mods I may use, but probably not before finishing the main quest, unless there's some annoying bugs..
Dark0ne
Note: when it says "mod your Oblivion" it means "add mods to your Oblivion", not "will you make your own mods for Oblivion" -- that was the last poll!
Malchik
Ah - I misunderstood. I thought you wanted to know how itchy fingered we would be with the construction set as soon as we had the chance.

As to whether I will add another's mods early on, I don't know. If I find annoying bugs and glitches and someone mods a fix then I probably will add them. Otherwise I hope to be sufficiently immersed not to feel the need for extras at first.

Later I am sure I shall be pleased to add to the realism with some mods and expand the quest playing time with others but only if the game is as good as (or better than) Morrowind. Former Ultima fans, of which I was one, know that sequels are not always improvements. The Oblivion hype is fine; let us hope it is the reality.
Povuholo
The disadvantage of making mods before doing the MQ (or just before you haved played Oblivion for a while) is that you get to see secret items, locations, dialogue, quests, scripts... All these things that you still have to discover! It's no fun finding out about this very cool dungeon in the CS instead of while playing.

I can never keep my fingers of quests... So i won't open the CS before i've played Oblivion to hell. I mean.. to Oblivion.

But, to the original poll: There probably won't be many (good) mods out before i have finished the MQ, since everyone is going to play the game first. But who knows... maybe if it would be a bugfixing mod..

Well, in that case...

It really depends. I can't imagine myself Downloading any mods before completing the MQ, since I doubt there'll be any decent ones out by then.

However, unlike Morrowind, Oblivion has had a huge amount of pre-release mod preparation going on. I'm confident that a lot of modders will be making and completing mods quite soon after release. Whether I will download any of them is another matter though.

Well, if someone makes a makes a really nice sword or armour mod then I won't be able to resist! It's also great that these kinds of mods don't usually affect much in a game (being mostly an appearance thing). Other mods, like ones that add quests, only come much later when I'm bored with nothing else to do.

Peregrine
Of course I will, assuming the 3dsmax plugins are released at the same time as the game itself.
Dilvish
Nah. I want to see the unaltered game first. No one will know what needs to be improved or changed or added to Oblivion until they play it for a while.
Tubal
I might add cosmetic mods before I finish the main quest. I added a face-mod for Morrowind pretty much the first thing I did but I think that's going to be less of an issue in Oblivion smile.gif
Peregrine
Looks like "no" is the official winner, since Bethesda won't have the construction set out at release.
Gabbe_master
This does not stop them überhaxor-guyzorz out there from modify the game.

When will it be then?

Baraka
I know I will be enthralled with playing the pure game at first, but as I play I will probably get modding ideas that at some point before the main quest is done...I will probably try. I will add any official mods offered by Bethesda, such as "Bittercoast Sounds" was for Morrowind. I agree with Malchik that I am hesitant to add unknown mods that might have bugs in them & screw up my Oblivion game.
I have some ideas already for mods, but before Bloodmoon came out - I planned some Northern ice armor, but the ones in the game were much better, so I was happy not to have to do it. I'll wait & see what wonderful surprises await us. biggrin.gif :

So when can we expect a construction set? With the GOTY edition???

Anyway no modding for me to begin with. Let's see what Bethesda have in stall for us first. It'll keep me busy for a good few months.

I want to mod when i get my own copy of oblivion at the moment i am only playing at my brothers house but i'm gonna upgrade this computer that im on now and then im gonna add mods like the volengrad castle mod or the kvatch rebuilt mod (when its done).

But more or less I'm gonna make my own castle with its own questline and I've even though about doing an underground city but not one filled with enemies like the dungeons, in just one like the normal cities but using the subterranean textures.
alternator
I modded Oblivion before I even gained my first level in the game let alone finishing the main quest.

Ironic considering my mod is a tool to help you level better by tracking your skill gains blush.gif

I went through all of the guild lines before modding, because I really had experienced a full range of Oblivion gameplay. Now I have a good 40-something mods running, and I'm thinking about getting to the main quest wink.gif

I would say yes, IF I can find a Mod that changes the leveling up system so that I don't have to micromanage all my skills.

I just want to roleplay the whole thing once, instead of beating up on summoned skeletons so that my sword skill goes up exactly 10 points, then casting "detect life" over and over again, etc.

I tried one Mod, but i didn't like it so much.
Zhenya
First of all, I want to explore all the game without any mods and i complete Oblivion without plug -ins
hom dai
I kinda tried, but i haver modded before so i got confused sad.gif . That leaves me with a "no".
Vagrant0
First day I had the game I set to adding some custom items and spells so that I can run around quickly and not have to be too concerned about things killing me right off the bat. After a week I had a few other mods changing various game settings that I didn't like. After a month I started downloading mods to add new stuff to make standard activity less annoying. After 3 months I've added an number of large changes, and I've started really playing around with my own mods. I saw enough problems within that first week of semi-vanillia Oblivion to be glad I chose this route. Between all my time looking at mods and screwing around on my own, I really havn't managed to get into any of the guild or main quests. I figure that once I have the game to how I want it, I can really dig in and have fun. And if I get bored later, I can always strip my data folder of anything but the basics, and try for a challenge.

Half the fun of any game is screwing around with game settings for a few minutes of entertainment.
DeathmatchTheTitan
I will make my own mods like my curent project StormRuins which i am putting alot of efort in.
As for downloading not very much.Only have 3 download. But thats how i am with most games.I make my own.
fireforge124
I wanted to download all the mods that improved Oblivion's appearance and performance and fixed any bugs first and add those right away. Then I would completely play through, do everything i wanted. Then and onl then would I include mods that added content to the game.
Unfortunately I was so excited when I got to play Oblivion I ended up playing half the game vanilla till I added any mods. I had owned the game for like 4 months before actually getting a computer that could run Oblivion, and the anticipation was just too much to bear.

Totally unrelated: Why do the dry dry.gif and glare glare.gif smiles look almost exactly the same?
makhno
I waited to have finished the main quest before I started using mods. And since I'm not particularly main quest oriented and since I try to role play my characters, this took quite some time.
I really wanted to get a proper feel of the game the way it was created, and I'm very happy with it.
I'm now running quite a few mods and loving it.
aaston86
Yes, Yes, Yes! I actually downloaded several mods, including the BT mod, before I even got Oblivion to run (I had to get a better video card). However, I have tried to only download mods that change the UI, fix bugs, do things Bethesda should have done (like the Quest Reward Leveling mod), or visual enhancments like Jarrod's Texture Mod and Distant LOD. I think I will leave new content until I finish the main quest and faction quests, although I'm kinda slow because I keep making new characters. I must admit that I have download a few awesome looking armor mods, however.
MrDestructo
ya definatly getting a mod for new armor or some thing it wont mess up the main quest
m3lisk
Yes, I have modded, but nothing essential, just things for fun. Oh, but I personally modded the characters to better suit my taste, which is significant. In fact, after this I will upload them to tessource.com. Anyways, I only have Cheydinhal Petshop, Goblin warparties, my mods, and Blackie the fence(don't get it unless you ABSOLUTLY need it. I am unistalling it. It makes getting gold TOO easy. trust me, I'm level 6 with the house in Cheydinhal for sale under my belt with all but one furniture peice, but now I'm broke...
Tiberiu911
I finished the main quest without any mods, at least the first time... Now im running about 50 mods -.- .
Blind Eye
I didn't even know about how easy oblivion was to mod, compared to many other games, until i was about half way through the main and guild quests the first time i played. So, i just continued playing as normal until i finished the game. After that i got the construction set and played around with it and ended up with the two mods, so far, that i have on tessource.
DivineIguana
I thought I would, but the only thing mod I loaded early was the one that expands your map and inventory windows. It doesn't affect gameplay, just makes it easier to see where you are so I don't think it counts. I just finished the main quest, though, and now I'll probably go as mod crazy with Oblivion as I did with Morrowind.
3ernardo
I've never played more than an hour without mods...
Customization is one of the most atractive features of TES series.
STONEDSTONER
Started modding it about 60 hours in, nothing to ruin the game tho

Just that special item lvl up thing
255 luck
put infamy down,for now muhahahaha
nude mods happy.gif
low polly grass
Faivon
Hmm, I cant remember but I think I completed most of the quest without mods at first but havent completed the main quest.
After a several playthrough, I started modding and finish the main quest but none of the mods are to alter the building, races, or whatever. I just add some mod to actually help me questing like, BTmod and so on.
Maybe after I finish my current char now which is a jack-of-all-trades character, I will fully mod my Oblivion! hahaha
belegduwin
Played for about 2 days before installing mod. But just cosmetic changes really. Had to make it pretty! Though I have to admit, vanilla oblivion is a ton prettier than morrowind! blush.gif
WoogieMonster
I completed both the main quest and Shivering Isles before installing my first mod. I did not wait because of any (misguided) desire to beat the game "naturally," I was just nervous about installing my first mod.
qaz123
no, i'd never mod or tweak the game before playing the main quest. although i am saying this after the fact. wink.gif besiades, i didnt know much about the CS at the time and didnt even think of mods.
lolassassin101
yes
Talldude88
Yes, got to mod mod mod! I modded as soon as I knew there were mods out there to DL.
I wouldn't be playing still if it wasn't for the mods. I run over 200 now.
Varanus
I started modding because of the leveling system - my first attempt to play saw me racing through the levels only to find that I was getting weaker and weaker confused.gif. I went and found some guides and discovered just how complicated the leveling system was (too complicated and not much fun in my opinion). I quickly discovered mods (All+5Attributes being the first) and was quickly hooked.

I am ambivilent about whether this is a good thing.

Anyway, to answer the poll question, yes, mod mod mod.
bluekatt
seeing i played the xbox version for 2 years now and never even botherd to turn an eye to the main quest and bought the pc version solely to mod the awnser is no
wasder
I have no idea. When I comleted the main quest with my first character ages ago I didn't know mods existed! How times change. thumbsup.gif
