Dark0ne
Hi folks,

Just received the Bethesda newsletter I never realised I signed up for (and have never received before) which has got a few "new" screenshots and tidbits of information from Brendan Anthony.

Brendan goes into some good depth regarding magic in Oblivion and it's a good read for anyone who will be specialising in that school of combat.

one of the first things that you will notice about magic in Oblivion is that it is relatively similar to what we’ve seen in previous TES games. The spellmaker is there (Mages Guild members only!), we have kept the same six magic schools, and there are still a ton of magic effects and enchanted items. There’s lots of new stuff too, as well as many improvements to the feel of the whole system, but as far as basic functionality the idea is evolution over revolution.

Happy reading.

Haha, damn, beaten to the punch by 5 minutes. biggrin.gif

Pretty cool stuff. Expect some developer quotes from that diary soon. tongue.gif

It is strange how just being a member of the forums seems to make you a "subscriber". Theta and I received one too. Not that I'm complaining! ^^

Cool - the screenies of the exploding skeleton are pretty sweet. I like the new Detect Life function - I never used any of the Detect spells in MW because they never "felt" right to me - this way sunds alot better. The Script Effect functionhe mentions should hopefully keep modders happy, assuming it works as expected and isn't a limited gimmick (which I'm sure it won't be, to placate any Bethsoft spies reading this ph34r.gif ). It sounds pretty cool.

All in all, interesting read for some details Dark0ne. Let's hope you receive it out of the blue again sometime mellow.gif

Script effect spell... nice! So much to see, but only so little hours in a day...

Well...first off, I didn't know there was such thing as a Bethesda newsletter.

Second thing: I didn't even know there was such a person as Brendan Anthony working for Bethesda...

oh well, I do now. That's the main thing.

I do wish that he'd gone into a little more detail about the whole combined scripting and magic thing, of what he did say, I'm very very excited.

Is that skeleton frowning? I am very much looking forward to the facial animation stuff and so on, but that skeleton is frowning hehe. Will they look suprised if you cast say, paralysis on them hehehe...

I'm waiting for The Luggage to show up with the pitter patter of hundreds of little feet, and feed that skeletor dried frog pills so he can frown some more. biggrin.gif

Now THAT is a plugin I'd pay for! biggrin.gif

I wonder if the paralysis function will freeze the effects of things. For instance, say you paralyse that skeleton, then blow him up with a fireball. Would the skeleton stay together until the paralysis wear off, the blow up?

Hmm, probably not, but it'd be a cool-looking addition *pictures a long chain to exploding skeletons, one after the other...*

And does anyone apart from you actually care who posted it first? laugh.gif

Was quite surprised to find the newsletter in my inbox since I couldn't remember signing up for it - I suppose everyone registered on the official forums received one?

Apparently there's a tally being kept of the fastest news posters between Switch, Vaanic and Kaleem...should only count on unique articles rather than ones on the official site/newsletter.
