Full Version: New Preview/interview

There's a new preview/interview hybrid at ShackNews. There's not really much new stuff discussed unfortunately, but it is a pretty nice summary of what we've learnt so far for those of us who are a little behind. There is at least some reassurance that "if you're spelunking a deep dark dungeon and are in the middle of a battle, you can't just open the map and warp away". So it doesn't sound like the Fast Travel system will go too far.

Also, there's something a little odd for those of us planning to play on XBox 360 and try downloadable content:

QUOTE("Pete Hines")
Being able to charge something for it allows us to dedicate more resources to it than we could in the past and be able to bring out things on a consistent basis.

It seems you'll have to pay for the priviledge of downloading content! Whether this applies to the PC as well I don't know.

Credit to Kaleem of the forums for spotting this before me.

Lol, I'd like to see Bethsoft try to make that stick on PC laugh.gif You poor 360ers - I have a theory that Bethsoft have sabotaged supplies of the 360 so they can release Oblivion wiht it properly - too bad guys, I played on the new Perfect Dark in Game the other day... meh< methinks PC owners will be untrubled, except for the dumbing down factor of the shiny new console sad.gif

Random rantish thing over. Nice find Kaleem if the interview biggrin.gif .

I'm not too surprised on the pay-for-plugins idea, Neverwinter Nights has been doing it and it's worked well. You pay a small price ($5-10) for a mini-expansion that adds a few hours worth of quests to the game. And the quality is high, so you don't have to worry about wasting time on it.

I don't think we're going to see anything like "$5 for the Sword of 1337ness" plugins for sale, since there won't be any market for them on PC.

you're going to be spending 20 hours with this character

Once the game gets released, someone has got to put together a blooper reel of these previews.

the recent delay of Oblivion until the end of the new year's first quarter.]

End of the first quarter of 2006? April? I hope this is just a guess...

So this paying thing, is that for official mods only?

If it is, it won't take long before someone pays for it, uploads the mod onto his site and let it be downloaded for free.
QUOTE
six different skill tiers have been created. They are, in order of ascension: novice, apprentice, journeyman, master, and expert.

I'm not good at maths, but those are 5 skill tiers...

Edit: And it would be useful if you linked the first page of the preview instead of the second smile.gif

End of first quarter would be March, wouldn't it? Although I have a feeling they do things a little weirdly...

It would be. There's no way they could impose paying rules on privately run websites.

And giving the official mods off for free would probably get you in legal deep water.

Whoops! Post edited. I didn't even notice I'd done that. Thanks!

Nice find Switch!

Thanks. tongue.gif It wasn't so much a find as spotting Kaleem's post before anyone else. wink.gif

Haha, I hadn't noticed that MB! That's what I get for skim reading. Very amusing. Maybe it's not as much of a good summary as I thought.
