I was browsing through the UHS (Universal Hint System) walkthrough for Morrowind and I found a very interesting way to build a strong character. The author of this walkthrough calls this method "Riding The Creep Train." I thought I woulsd share this here. I won't go into all the details but will leave a URL to that page at the end of this message.

Anyway this walkthrough tells you the best places you can loot at level 1 and what merchants will pay full value for most of your items. Once you have lots of money you can train your way up several levels without doing any quests! I found that some parts of this method were not as easy as the walkthrough made it sound but I advanced my character from level 2 to level 8 or 9 in a very short time.

So whether you're just starting out or been playing a while, I definately recommend checking this out.

I hate to spoil the whole "I'm going to ruin my charachter in a single day, while only technically cheating" thing, but if you want to learn the great secret of charachter training fron UHS, you have to click on the "read another ten charachters" button a sum total of two dozen times, generating ad revenue for UHS all the while (the best part is, it's on the basis of another person's work, a la Eric Bauman).

The preferred source for information of this nature is the game manual.

I've not sure what you mean by the game manual. I've never bought any Morrowind hint books but I've read through lots of web sites.

Morrowind starts out slow. Your character is weak and you're on your own trying to learn the game and build up your new character. You go into a bandit cave and get killed. You steal something and the guards take everything you own. You even have to avoid the rats and the crabs!

Players looking for a faster pace and more immediate gratification may get frustrated during these first few levels. Leveling seems to take forever. They don't have any good weapons or armor. Stealing bottles and plates from crates in the alley is lame. Some of the people who think Morrowind is stupid and boring gave up on the game at this stage. I don't have a problem with guides that help them get past this stage.

Be assured that the beginning of Oblivion will be more exiting than the beginning of Morrowind.

The problem with guides is that you miss lots of fun things like... good gameplay and such. glare.gif

It is also better for players to discover the game themselves i think. It's more fun. Instead of holding a manual while playing. Ofcourse if you really get stuck and got no idea how to get stronger, you could use it, but i would say: first try it before you grab a manual.
