I play loads of FPS's....and i know what they can do. do you play FPS? i only play the real military kinds, i think Duke Nukem and Quake are senceless violence....BUT i do play HALO and Unreal 2003, so am i a hippocrite or what?!
Ilovethe80s
Nah, I don't think so. I've played Doom and Quake when they first came and I'm not a murderer. Not only that, several tests have concluded that violence on TV and games has little-to-no effect on young childrens' minds.

 oh goodie biggrin.gif

See, it's people like Senators who make up this fake stuff and endangers Free Speech by trying to outlaw violent computer games. If someone goes on a killing spree 'cuz they played Quake, they're insane anyway.
Theodarius
i agree, besides, games are art, nobody can ban art
Ilovethe80s
Also, I think FPS's are a good idea. They can help people to vent anger rather than to cause anger.
Death_Penalty
precisely. only the uneducated blame problems on games. we might as well ban books and tv shows and pictures of violence, b/c those might contaminate our thoughts too. (by the way, that last sentance was sarcasm tongue.gif)
haha unreal is so funny

Always been a big fan of FPS, Roleplaying and Strategy games. Favourites include:

- Unreal Tournament (the original)
- Civilisation
- Quake 2
- C&C: Red Alert
- C&C
- Half-Life (including CS and DoD)
- Morrowind

If any of them have affected me, it has only been in furthering my entertainability smile.gif
Death_Penalty

I play a good amount of CS, so far I have the mouth of a sailor, and the reflexes of a Khajiit. So I guess thats one of those "Good thing, bad thing" moments.

Here's an article from CNN that might be of interest.

Also in a recent issue of the scientific journal Nature, Dr. Daphne Bavelier, an associate prof. of cognative neuroscience at the Univ. of Rochester, and others found that people who play FPS showed dramatically improved visual attention skills.

FPS's I like:
  • Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory
  • Battlefield 1942
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein (XBL)
I prefer the war-type strategy-FPS, and I LOVE the stat increasing system of the Wolfenstein multiplayer games (Go download Enemy Territory, it's free and is DAMN good, go, now!). I'm not too much for UT or Quake-type games. So, some are just senseless violence (which I have nothing against, I just don't enjoy them as much as strategy FPS) whilst others are good.
Stat
Well, i dont really understand the U.S gobernament (dude i dont speak english that good, dont know if thats the right way to write it), but first they make lot of fuz with fps games and how they screw our minds, and then they release Americas Army, a free teen rated fps or Tactical shooter as they call it, guess those senators will have to think twice before they start speaking about Soldier of Fortune or Doom.
Messenger of Sorrow
I dont even play shotters, they are boring and they suck.I dont know about you guys but shooters are the biggest crap in the gaming world!

I'm afraid your observation is about 3 years late... please look at the date of the previous post before resurrecting a dead thread. Replying to a topic this old is considered thread necromancy, and frowned upon on these forums.
