Subject says it all, but for those interested in more details before downloading...
Realistic Colour Config for Morrowind (RCC4MW) is a mod that is applied (uncharacteristically) directly to the Morrowind.ini file, changing some of the defaults for colour, fog, and lighting options.
These changes are (in my humble opinion) for the better, but try it out, I've included an uninstaller should you wish to revert back to default settings if you don't like my mod.
This mod uses the MiNi application created by Vladimir Kraus (vkraus@iol.sk), which basically applies changes to the Morrowind.INI file safely, allowing the user to remove the installation by applying the uninstaller provided with the template installation.
Some further implementation details:
* Enables FPS display
* Optimizes load-handling and minimizes "lag-pauses" by disabling thread-loading
* Makes Water more realistic
* Disables fog transparencies, thus increasing FPS and general performance through the roof
* Enables screenshot capture functionality and renames prefix of "Screenshot" to "SS"
Opinions wanted...
EDIT by Daerk: Lots of people seem to not be able to find the mod. It's the attachment above, but i'll link it here: RCC4MWEDIT by Daerk: Fixed broken link.-- Daerk off to work more on MEMod...

An additional note:
This mod is an alpha release of a mod that will end up completely changing the levels of realism in Morrowind. I'll be combining aspects of the True Lights & Darkness mod (heavily customized) without the malus/bonus due to lighting levels to sneaking skills and whatnot, as well as the Morrowind.ini alterations.
At present the most noticeable effect would be the lighting (if you were not using quadratic lighting before installing this mod) and the skies at night. Slightly less noticeable (possibly) would be the water (if you're using a graphics card that supports pixel shaders).
An enhanced version will be released with an actual version number assigned to it within the next month.
EDIT by Daerk: Including some new screenies...
Viewing the path to Balmora during Seyda Neen's night...

Under water during the day...

Under water during the night...

Viewing Seyda Neen's small populace at night...

Sneaking to the lighthouse to watch for Fargoth's gold drop...

Okay, maybe it's because it's still early here and I'm on my first cup of coffee, but I'm not clear on what to do with this plug-in... I downloaded it, because I *love* the new look as shown in the screen shots, but I don't know what to do with the files...
Little help someone?
BTW... most exciting plug-in I've seen in a while, Daerk! SWEET!! A definite 9+ in my book.

u extract it to anywhere on ur hdd and then run MiNi.exe
zipgenius doesnt extract it properly so u gotta do it manually

then just select the rcc4mw_install option and click the pencil on paper icon to apply it to the morrowind.ini file

I used quadratic lighting before, and I thought it looked better, but the finding my way through dungeons and caves was way too dark, even if all my lights were off, it was almost ptch black at times. Does the mod have similar problems? It's hard to tell from the screen shots if the game world is "darker" when using that plugin.

Downloaded it, tried it, loved it! I now class this as a must have and I'd give it a 9.5/10 (leaving some voting room for possible improvements!). All I'll say to those who haven't tried it yet is "What ya waiting for? Go get it NOW!".

I'll be uploading a new Bloodmoon version soon that also adds colour effects changes for snow blizzards and the like.

Thanks for the awesome comments!
As far as making the world itself darker, no, it makes objects darker, meaning there's more contrast, making it easier to see things in one respect, but you'd better have night-eye or some lightsources if you plan on venturing into the depths of dungeons and caverns...

Daerk excellent work! I just found about your stunning work at the official Forums thanks to Pseron Wyrd.I love the crispness in the views now and how things appear. My framerates have also improved quite a bit.The water is really gorgeous! Am using PumaMan's Wilderness Mod that adds fishes to the oceans and it is really a visual feast of beauty! The fish also blend in much more better then before. Now they look like they are in the water instead of plastered over it because of the original coloring.Night time is gorgeous even more so with ModMan's Window Lights Mod and your amazing Mod work. Also dungeons are much more spookier which i have not seen since using CoolDemons excellent True Light And Darkness Mod.Good to see torches and lanterns are of use once more.Thank you!

Can FPS be increased with RCC4M installed? Before installing my FPS was 240, after installing it dropped to 120.
Daerk
Sep 6 2003, 05:55 PM
your maximum fps can be increased if you wish, however if you do, you'll notice your actual fps decrease, because the engine is constantly attempting to reach 240 fps, and there's no-one on earth with a system that can reach 240 fps for Morrowind. Part of the fps increase of RCC4MW is by releasing the engine from having to attempt to reach 240 fps, I notice some individuals can reach higher fps than others but never higher than about 150 fps, you can actually increase your fps even more... if you notice you never go above 70 fps, setting your max fps to 90 will boost your performance even more.

lol best FPS i ever get on morrowind is 35 (when outside).
also just wanted 2 point out a bug in RCC4MW
in the middle of the night earlier the sky was still bright and had sunlit clouds wafting across the stars (it actually looked really cool, took a number of screenies of it). also ive noticed in the night sometimes theres the sunset lighting still left on the ground and buildings, ive mainly experienced this in Balmora.
dunno if those things are avoidable or not, but might be of note for the next version (if ur doing one)
Daerk
Sep 6 2003, 07:01 PM
That wouldn't be a bug in RCC4MW, all I change in RCC4MW is the lighting method, which is a simple change from 0 to 1 in the ini, and I change the night-time ambient colours to darker colours with a slight blue tint to them, and then I change the water. If you're seeing "light" hitting the ground it's actually the small "lightsource" objects placed on the ground to "spotlight" objects. As far as the clouds, nothing has been altered on them. I'd like to see a screenie if you could upload one.

Sep 6 2003, 07:18 PM
nah it wasnt a spotlight thingy, it was the same ambient light effect u get during the sunset. the only reason i thought these things might be 2 do with RCC4MW is cos ive only experienced the problems since i got it.
hang on i'll try 2 upload a piccy of the sky...

For everyone else to see, here's the screenie Switch posted:
ErrorThis is in bloodmoon, which is why I said I'm making a Bloodmoon version of RCC4MW, during snow, the fog and lighting is the same as it is during the day, and not altered via rcc4mw, therefore it appears to be brighter than usual. It's not actually the same colour as the day, it's night colours, but it's ambient lighting is lighter than everything else around it which makes it appear to be lit by daylight. I hadn't seen a bloodmoon install running my mod yet, but this is what causes the ethereal cloud lighting seen in the screenshot above.
It'll be "fixed" in RCC4MW_v0.2.exe which will include a "Vanilla" installer/uninstaller for Morrowind, a "Tribunal" installer/uninstaller, and a "Bloodmoon" installer/uninstaller. I'll also experiment a bit with some of the daylight colours in that release. It's a self extracting .ACE archive.

Thanks for the reply. Would the lowered max FPS explain why I get noticeable screen 'shake' during cell transitions?
Switch
Sep 8 2003, 10:02 AM
actually ive been getting that too. my character sort of jerks back and forward rapidly as the bar at the bottom fills. in fact i never used 2 even see the bar fill b4, it just sort of froze, went from empty to full in a few seconds and then unfroze again
Daerk
Sep 8 2003, 11:31 AM
The shaking is due to terrain path and cell thread-loading. I've been getting it even before my mod. You'll also get the shaking if you move too far away from the 0,0 cell... as a test, set your acrobatics and strength up to 2000 each and then "jump" when you're outside, you'll notice your character start shaking the further away from the ground he gets.
Bad engine coding, is all.

Great, Daerk!
The idea is very good, although I tuned your valuse a bit for my taste. Now I have some fog in the distance, but not as much as the original one.
What I find unrealistic is water in caves, you jump in and everything is as bright as during the day outside. As soon as you swim up you face terryfying darkness of the cave

. Darkness is real, but where is the damn source of light in the water? Perhaps if the underwater would be as dark as cave this would be much more realistic. But then we will need a mod which will make lanterns work under the water. B)
Daerk
Sep 24 2003, 03:50 PM
This is unfortunately impossible, as there is no flag to determine "inside" water and "outside" water. I might revamp the water brightness to compensate for this.
