You see, I have been wondering...
Can you actualy call World Of Warcraft a Warcraft?
The point is, that if you compare the 1st Warcraft and the WOW, they are two absolutly different games:
One is a strategy (a classic one)
And the other one is an on-line RPG...
And I am going to ask a simple quastion, WHAT do YOU think about this???

As i am personally a MASSIVE fan of both games, i would say yes. WoW follows exactly in the previous steps of Warcraft, and...
yes.

I would have to say no way in hell its the same as the old games.
Warcraft 1 2 and 3 where FREE to play online unlike WoW
One is a strategy
The other is a OMMRPG or some crap like that

Yes, it is, it follows the same story lines, it just changes the perspective to single characters that can make choices for themselves as apposed to you controlling groups of people and what not and telling them all what to do.

If you say so

I've played Warcraft 1, 2, 3 (2 is the best), and World of Warcraft, and I would have to say that World of Warcrack is a more cartoonish atmosphere. It started as a brutal "fight-to-the-death" hands on combat kind of game with WC1 and 2, but in three the once fearsome motto "For the Horde" became more like "For the Butterflies". Graphics became more vibrant, and the animations looked like bad caricatures, with over sized swords. The storyline stayed just as cool as ever, and the cut scenes were great, but the atmosphere had a complete overhaul. The same carried over to World of Warcrap.

I have to agree on that point, Warcraft 3 was more of a 4kids version.
I mean, I was expecting that they would continue on the story, where you could command old heroes like Dentarg, Danath, Aleria, and of course, Korgath Ironfist (or perhaps even Lothar.... considering that he had risen from the grave...)!
Instead you fight against the Undead, where the hell did they come from???
But I shouldn't complain. WC 3 was an incredible gameing experience for its time, and it still is. Too bad that I've been spoiled with the speed of Dawn of War, otherwise I would still stick with the old "slow-resource-gathering" strategy games.

I wouldn't touch WoW with a ten-foot pole, as I've said many times, though possibly not in this forum

What I don't get is why you'd want to pay a monthly fee to be able to do the same thing over and over again, until you get better at doing that thing. Guild Wars isn't so bad because there's no subscription fee, but still...
The only good MMO I've ever found is EVE Online

WoW:
You pay someone to suck the life right out of your body leaving you moneyless, friendless, sociopathic, and in all other ways a wretched piece of filth hanging on to the bottom rung of society.

Something tells me you played on a PK server with several griefing clans running around. It doesn't matter if you were owned by them repeatedly, or a member, in both cases what you said would be right.
Griefing is one thing I hate about almost every MMO. I play to have fun and enjoy the game, not have to deal with 13 year old kids who have nothing better to do than look for ways to annoy others.

WoW annoys me for three reasons:
First, most WoW players I've encountered don't know the first flippin' thing about their game's universe. For that matter, a great many of them don't even know what an RTS is, which is just wrong for people playing a game based in an RTS' universe. Not that there's anything wrong with playing WoW but not Warcraft I-III (especially I and II), but it annoys me that people are willing to enter a universe and not give a flying fart about the history of that universe.
Second, although I am not an MMO player, I've gleaned from people I know (including my sister) who play MMOs that WoW is far from the best game in the genre. I get annoyed every time a merely good game gets all the attention and praise when there are better games that get shut down for lack of players. Halo annoys me for the same reason, as did Counter-Strike.
Third, Starcraft:Ghost never came out and probably never will. I always liked Starcraft better than Warcraft. Thus, it is a travesty to me that there should be a Warcraft-based game with millions upon millions of subscriptions while the Starcraft-based spinoff game quietly goes the way of Duke Nukem Forever.
The reasons I don't play it are that I don't like the gameplay (tried it on a friend's comp), I never play subscription-based games (as a rule), and I have about 120 or so more games that I have time for already.

Wow, lots of ignorance in this topic, as a retired WoW gamer since it came out (3 years ago) and old Warcraft/Diablo etc veteran, I will just say that if you haven't even tried the game then you shouldn't be talking bad about it. It's not like any of the Warcraft games, it's not supposed to be since it's an MMORPG, on the contrary to what the poster above me said, WoW is indeed the best online game at the moment, not only because of the numbers of players (9 million) but because it changed the way MMO's are made, almost all games after WoW are bad ripoffs with poor funding and thought put into it, Vanguard is one example, Age of Conan is another.
So to end this tirade I will just say; Don't knock it til you've tried it.

Wait...it's good because its success inspired companies to make more poorly funded ripoffs? Perhaps I misunderstand you...
