whenever im in the first person mode inside a house and move too close to any wall, my fps goes crazy and my mouse goes slow, making me fight to draw a bit back so i can use my mouse normally again. ive looked for some time and didnt find this problem, and its quite annoying >>;

im using morrowind with the latest patch, no expansions, high end pc

help would be appreciated ^^ or i give up on the game even though it rocks that much oo;
Cras578
funnily enough, that bug showed up after i had played a while already (!) now all interior areas are frustration grounds for me xP

I dont have this problem, but what I suggest is downloading the Morrowind Optimizer. The only reason I dont use it is because it alters your view distance and when you talk to someone, the fog closes in around you, but I believe that you can change that in the properties. Just do a Google search for 'Morrowind Optimizer'.
Cras578
hm alright ill try that, in not very positive itll work though as it used to work correctly once, thanks for the reply though

I'll ask the age old question: Have you installed any mods lately?
Wookiee
your vid card might have a problem with "Null Space" which it may be rendering when you near a wall in an interior cell (the space where nothing ness resides) just a thought it might not and it might be somthing compleatly different smiley.gif
Abramul
No, the problem is that your FPS is too high. Go into the INI and change it to 60 or so.
Cras578
first off, thanks for the replies.

I didn't install any mods, i've played morrowind a long time ago, but with a different cd. this game now is only a few days old. and i'd like to stress that the game *did* work fine until a short time ago, suddenly, out of the blue looking at walls had that effect.

therefore i don't believe that my graphic card has anything to do with it, though i may experiment a bit if the problem won't get solved. well even if i tried i wouldn't know how to deal with this 'null space' you've mentioned and how to make my card solve the problem. i have an nvidia card.

I've already tried lowering my max fps to 60, it only made my mouse speed more laggy and slow when looking at walls, so i changed it back.

ill try downloading that program the first poster asked me to get, now that i have time, thanks again to everyone whos helping ^^
Cras578
the fps optimizer did not solve the problem.
Cras578
i've noticed that while playing in the third person view, the lags stop. funny, really. but annoying to play with on the long term. (they return when i get back to the first person view)
Abramul
What video card are you using?
Cras578
a mighty Winfast px6600 GT extreme
Cras578
i did the drastic thing to do: i resinstalled morrowind. it is working fine now, but i wonder (fear) for how long. thanks again for your time, i shall post here again if i encounter any problems in he future
Cras578
>_< after waking up today, the bug had returned. reinstalling the game didnt work this time. it seems no one can help me with this problem
Cras578
to anyone who found this topic through google, with the same problem: set the max fps in the morrowind.ini to 47

Cras578 - hope you can get your lag problem sorted, but could you please use the 'edit' button to add to your posts rather than making several consecutive posts?
Cras578
sorry, ill do that in the future. my last post indicated though that the issue is settled, a person of another forum ive been to helped me out with that weird solution.

I seem to recall this problem being related to have music turned off, if you TURN ON the games music(with slider in the options menu under audio) this should eliminate your problem. Even though this answer sounds like it would never relate to the problem, try it anyways it works. This was never fixed by Bethesda.

sq_yellow_biggrin.gif Hi guys.
Having some strange lag probs myself, but first off:
I used to play Morrowind with Bloodmoon and Tribunal installed on a PIII/750 with 256meg of 100mhz SDRAM and a GeForce4/MX at 1024x768 and it ran fine.
Now I have an AMD64/3000 with 1gig PC3200 DDR and Geforce FX5500 and I`m suffering lag with just Morrowind installed at 800x600 (it`s unbearable at 1024x768)

Other games with higher specs requirements work fine eg Far Cry, IL2 Forgotten Battles and Doom3.

Morrowind has worked fine with all the bells and whistles on the AMD before but after a re-install it`s like stirring mud for some reason.
I`ll try some of the above ideas and get back to you.

It may be because of the GeForce FX. I hate to say it, but those cards really, really suck. I speak from experience. And Morrowind doesn't like them. My GeForce4 Ti4200 ran far better than the FX5500. Personally the problem I had was the cursor on Morrowind. It was always lagged, and slow. As soon as I upgraded the card everything was fine.

I suggest replacing that card with either a Ti4200 (pretty cheap nowadays I think), or one of the new 6 or 7 (if you've got pots of money) series cards.

It`d have to be a 6600 or 6800. The nvidia 7 series are all PCIe with no sign of AGP support on the horizon. I`ve always stuck with Nvidia since 3DFX went down the pan. What are ATI like now for their drivers? I did learn a few years ago that they were pretty lame when it came to producing drivers. My first video card was a 4meg ATI Rage Pro in my PII/350 in 1998. Kept falling on it`s back so I got a Voodoo and things were ok after that.

Its good that you care for each other but let me tell you.

I play on Sempron 2800,with ati 9600 Xt 256MB
and sometimes ive got the same problem,dont care if i had the FPS Optimizer
and all the other stuff.But sometimes it works.

So how i finally solved the Problem was to change ini like followed.

interior ram =256
exterior ram=384
FPS=30-35 no one needs more.
loadingthread=0

I dont know why,but it seems like on of the Addons is causing the Problem.
And somehow its related to the Mouse.Cause when ever (and that is really seldom now),I just shake my Mouse like crazy and the Problem disappears.
