I'm doing the quest for the Skaal in which you activate the six stones spread across Solstheim, to restore their power. I got to the Sun Stone and headed to the Halls of Penumbra to free the light, but ran into a problem. After killing the grahl guarding the light, I took his eye and clicked on it in my inventory, thinking maybe I could equip it to throw, as the character in the legend had done. But when I did this I just ate it. It seems clear that the only way to get past the wall of ice is to use this eye somehow, so my question is, should I just load to my most recent save and cut my losses, or what? Is there another way to make it through the wall, or perhaps another grahl to slay, somewhere? I tried waiting around for several days, thinking maybe the mobs would respawn, but no such luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

correct me if im wrong, but arent there some more grahl in castle Karstaag? maybe you could go and find one off one of them. if you have a save game that is before when you ate it, but not too far before, then i would recommend reloading, because it is quite a way to castle Kaarstag, and im not sure if you can get in until you are onto the quest which involves entering the castle to stop a rebellion.

doesn't grahl respawn? dispose of his corpse and wait a while (sleep) to see if it does.
