I decided to start this topic just to find out specs and any crazy mods people have for their computers
Yeah, anyway, I'm sporting
-A3.2 P4 Prescott
-1 GB DDR-400
-ATI Radeon x800
-120 GB SATA HD
-Creative Audigy ZS
-Logitech elite KB
-MX510 mouse
-no mods (yet!)
So post!

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512MB (not positive on whether it's DDR or anything, can't remember how to check!)
GeForce 6800 GT
80GB Maxtor HD
Avance AC'97 Audio (inbuilt, but good)
Can't remember the motherboard... I know it's a Gigabyte.

Probably gunna upgrade to 1GB RAM soon. With the 6800 GT though I can run the latest games at a very smooth FPS at max, or in some cases, near max settings. There are just some loading issues with objects now and then where the game lags quite a bit, which is probably the RAM.

Word on the Dell comment. They make a sweet laptop, but desktops can be a little nyah. But let me tell you from experience, they rock Gateways. My old 2002 Gateway only lasted 2 years and was the buggiest piece of [explitive] i've ever had the displeasure of using.
a 21" Flat screen, i think i'm going to need a new pair of pants!
Note to Dilvish, if you ever get the chance, build your own PC. It's a lot of fun and there's the incredible amounts of self satisfaction you get when you see the baby up and running!

heres my one:
ASUS AV8 deluxe wifig Motherboard
AMD Athlon-64 Fx-54
2048MB DDR PC 4200 RAM
2 x Maxtor Diamond max plus 10 S-ATA
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Creative Labs Inspire T7700 7.1
LG 17" TFT monitor
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro 2.0
ATI Radeon x800xt Platinum edition
Abit NF7-S revision 2.0
Athlon XP 2500+ Mobile @ 1850MHz (I think)
2x 256MB DDR400
Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro
The shitty ram doesn't run at spec. I'm going to grab a couple 512s of Corsair or, if I can find some around here, Mushkin so that my computer won't crash when I set it to 200MHz bus. Then I can my raw processing speed above 2GHz
I was thinking of saving my money instead of upgrading, and getting a new desktop around the end of the year, but I plan on going to Japan and won't be bringing it with me, so instead I'll get a couple upgrades to get Oblivion running, and save for my trip instead.
Upgrades to come soon (I hope):
Radeon 9800 Pro
2x 512MB DDR400 Corsair (probably value select - I heard they're good for the price)/Mushkin
200GB HDD (I'll probably go with another Seagate on this one)
19" LCD (I'm using a 15 currently, and it's fine. I just want something bigger, that looks a little more stylish than my C5

)

Sorry for laughing, but I have this funny thought in my head. My brother-in-law uses his huuuuuge widescreen TV as well, and I find myself imagining him moving all his furniture outside so he's got enough room to move the mouse about

OK, here's my setup, just for the sake of writing something down (since I've got nothing else better to do with my time).
HP Pavillion a340n desktop PC with:
-Intel® Pentium® 4 2.60GHz CPU with Hyper-Threading Technology (Intel 865 chipset family), and yes, it's dual-core (well, virtual dual core)
-1.0GB of PC2700 DDR RAM (256MB DDR x 4)
-ATI Radeon® X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AGP GPU
-120GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive
-HP Pavillion mx703 17" CRT monitor (has about 7475h

of ON time)
-SB X-Fi XtremeMusic PCI sound card
-JLMS XJ-HD1665 DVD-ROM
-Sony CD-RW CRX215E5 CD writer
-Pair of Cyber Acoustics speakers with a (get this) tiny 2.5" subwoofer

(sounds pretty good tho

)
-Windows XP® Home Edition (SP2)
That about sums it up. I'm quite content with this setup, albeit a few things I wish I had, but have not the funds to fianance my hunger

.
[EDIT]
Oh yeah, this whole thing cost me upwards of about $2500 CDN (it'll be about 3 yrs. old next Feb.).

not my current computer, but what i will buy next:
-conroe e6300 dual core (hopefully can oc it to 3ghz)
-asus p5b sli mobo (i always trust asus)
-enermax liberty 500watt sli (had before, should had kept it, best psu in the market)
-crucial technology pc5300 3-3-3-12 (the one i heard can oc to 800mhz at 4-4-4-12)
-2 x wd sata2 160gb hd (for raid1 backup purpose)
all this and some accessories will cost up to one grand total. keeping my old 7900gt to use with the setup. hopefully will handle all the new gen games even without a dx10 card and vista.
truthfully i love nforce chipset and amd combo. so i really like to get the amd am2 cpus. but seeing the performance of the conroe, its inevitable if i want best performance for money.

Nice setup. ^^ Though Raidmax Scorpio 420w? Are you sure that's enough wattage for your system? (I assume you're referring to your PSU there).
agent0002
Jan 10 2007, 05:25 AM
thats actually the name of the case. the 420 is also the wattage rating of the PSU. i believe this is just coincidence that the name is that because raidmax stocks alotta their cases with the same 420w power supply. i know cause my friends, which had a different case, had the same PSU in it. (the PSU came with the case)
surpringly it is enough to power it all. only problem with power i have is not havin enough rails. (really, almost no PSU comes with enough)
the power supply is only enough cause the x1600 doesn't need its own connector, and doesn't drain that much. 65nm drains less then a 90nm CPU as well, so that helps. only running 1 optical drive too, no floppy anymore. if i ever get a new video card though, i am gonna need to get a new PSU.
p.s. ordering SATA dvd burner, considering cold cathode tubes, and possibly removing the water cooling off the CPU and replacing it with a northbridge waterblock, cause i think the video card being in the same loop is actually raising the CPU temperature.

No, it was a DELL computer, so it didn't come with one. The idea was you could make one using special software on the computer. It worked fine, except it couldn't copy the .iso file that would make it bootable.
Of course, being Windows, it didn't bother to tell
me that. It just wrote it to some tiny log file somewhere on the cd.

i specifically built my computer system to be a complete integrated entertainment system.

if you have to know the specs:
e6300 1.86ghz oc'ed to 2.6ghz
asus p5b deluxe wifi (non-sli, but i don't care for it, atleast i get 3 pci slots)
2 x raid 1 (4 hdd's)
8800gtx (i shouldnt have bought this, its overkill, if i bought the 8800gts i save $300, thats 50 bags of beef jerky.)
2x1gb patriot 6400 5-5-4-9
msi turbostream 600watt sli psu (one of the best deal i've got, $70, an enermax cost twice as much)
zalman fans controller = priceless, but doesnt have enough resistance to make the fans quieter, its still noisy. computer has 9 fans total, counting the mobo, gfx and psu.

I don't really like to complain or rant, but isnt that a kinda wrong placement? Shouldnt they be at the back, since you would get the full effect then if you play on your computer and laying on the couch (I assume there is a couch).
