I just recently saw many of my friends having new mp3 players and so in consideration of my curiosity went online to amazon.com to see how many there are setting my eyes on the ipod but geuss what? There are literally over a hundred different ones with each one costing upwards of 200 buckeroos and some even 500 english pounds! Thas a nice number when translated into american isn't it (pound is over 1.6 dollars.)

Now, if I remember correctly, mp3 players became popular like only a year ago or something from the ipod and now there are over 50-60 companies making a multitude of products each claiming Thier the best................

So, I ask what people's opinions here are and debate that.......................

(it's just a intersting little topic to debate upon espesially since many companies are making nice progress in installing windows on thier mp3 video player even........)

Anyhow, I vote the Archos AV 140 up because of the price and it's awsome functions compared to the other ones which are worse yet much more expensive and this is considering the 40 gig hard drive and video dvd quality playing power.

I just recently got the Creative Zen Touch 20GB MP3 player for a steal at £180. Great quality playback and plenty of space to store all the music I need. Also good as it doubles up as an external HDD.

I'd assess how much you'd actually use this MP3 player before buying, since a CD player which can play MP3's (So can store around about 250 tracks per CD) would cost 1/3rd as much.

Don't know a lot about MP3 players, but, if you shop around, you can get fairly basic ones cheaply, for example, here - Argos cheapo job

Not sure if Argos deliver outside the UK, though.

IPods are the best, but they cost a fortune.

Im not sure ipods are best because my friend Jordan keeps having his ipods all break on him. This is like the third time lready so he boutgt another mp3 from dell while waiting for his old ipod to be fixed yet agian.

Dark0ne, I heard creative zen ones have great qualityy in sound too (they are made by sound card manufactures) but the price 180 pounds isn't much of a steal.....

Since i think 1.6 bucks to a pound then you paid 288 bucks around. I paid 7 bucks less for a 40 gig player with dvd quality video recording, and a dvd qulaity playing capacy plus, wireless remote, a nice camera and camcorder thingy, and a bunch of other conectors such as one that actually allows me to play high defeniton movies on my tv THROUGH THE AUDIO LINE which amazingly doubles as a video line, dvd player line conecter, vcr connecter, and headphone connector.

Anyhow, check out the archos av 340

Now thats nice. Though it had no cam corder or recording options like the av 140 it givers you a reason to actually intall windows on it.

Just think of this this though,

Sony psp with archos av 140 or iriver players connected to it through a usb 2 cable as psp has slots for that but no hard drive and if mp3 player added then you get

:huge screen,
windows if archos attached
pc games cause now you have windows, psp cpu, joysticks and large hard drive,
play music on psp without memory cards
ram for your mp3 player and advanced digital capabilities

I am for one defenitly trying that out in february when psp comes out at it's nice low 185 buck price.

Ipod is the best, you can buy a 40GB for $399.

I know at about a dozen people who own iPods and none of them have ever had any technical issues. Your friend must just be unlucky wink.gif.

It's not the storage that makes the iPod so good, as much as the ergonomics. Have you ever used the scroll wheel? It's amazing.

Plus, you know, it's the IPOD. tongue.gif

Newsflash: The PSP is going to suck. Especially if its used as an MP3 player. It will only have a maximum of 4 hours of battery life when playing MP3s.

The Zen is probably the best deal [more storage than the IPOD for $100 less], but I would rather spend the extra $100 and get a nice Ipod.

Oh, and postaldudeleo, I can't understand a word you said, other than I'm going to get PSP. Use punctuation, please....... huh.gif

I have an IPod mini, i basically chose it because of the size (its teeny weeny!!), it has a good enough memory for me (4gb, like 1000 songs which is way over what i would use) and it is just sooo cool cool.gif (bit of a style freak here!)

I used my friend's ipod and i do admit that macs have the nicest interface but it that interface really worth 200 bucks more?

The best quality of music comes from rio watchyoumakallit thingy that has 5 gigs of flash ram!!!!

Not a hard drive but 5 gigs of pure fast ram. its also 280 bucks at highest price so that is really nice.

Concerning jordan, yeah, well he probably is an exception cause he does do to the noise extremes first of all (sitting across the room with him having in ear headphones and i can hear the msuic clearly across the room.)

But he is not the only case, as i heard people having ipods stop working in the cold and some being easy to break. Thats why soem like all the av _ _ _ models come with a steal frame inside.

I belive 400 bucks for a ipod 40 gig is a rip off still cause agian, i paid 281exactly and got a whole dvd quality camcorder, movie player, 40 gig usb 2 drive, vioce recorder and ect........

psp isn't really gonna suck. You can hotwire it to run witgh a big battery pack and i myself am personally gonna open the av 140, PSP, and a ncid rechargeeable pack and make a whole custom case from IVac corp ( a company my dad's frend owns in cleveland, it's metalurgy and i can drive their and use the tools there).

I want to make up for all the missing features by combining all 3. or at least that's me but anyone can make a makeshift batter pack that will last at least an extra 10-20 hours (8 aaa batteries ncid)

Anyhow, anybody here ever try iRiver products, i heard they are the best format and sound quality and cost around that of an ipod.?

I have a 4 gig sansa mp3 player, it was $175 and works so much better than the i pod nano, which is what i had before.

With the advent of phones that do things other than phone and text people I'm simply using my phone at the moment. 1GB of space; sounds just as good as my iPod, is more convenient and allows me to share with others via Bluetooth. Best of all it was free with my £17.50/month contract with Vodafone.

i use a Toshiba 60GB gigabeat. It has video capabilities as well and is "designed for Windows Mobile", whatever that means. i'll assume that its a good mp3 player, but the built in battery failed only giving me only 4hrs. of play time (if i'm lucky) out of the supposed 12hrs. and now, it won't even turn on, so i'm sending it in for repairs as i type.
