Crim, The Red Thunder
Okay... Where the hell is the cave with the smuggled weapons in it? I got the quest, took the smart but weak guy, and talked to the smith guy who tells you he heard people talking about such-and-such a cave. I then left the other guy (since i didn't want him dead, i go back and pick him up when (if!!!) i find the cave entrance.

so, i started searching in the direction covered by the journal. Found: NOTHING. I kept at it, until i had covered every cell in the eastern half of solstheim, and still not found the cave entrance... can i get a little help here?

Look at your paper map. Next to Fort Frostmoth there is a little inlet. If you look closer, you will see a cave-like hole in the rocks at the top of the inlet. That's your cave.

It's pretty much just outside the Fort walls. Those smugglers weren't exactly smart about their location.

If I remember correctly, the entrance to the cave is a big rock on the shore of a small lake just outside the fort, as cmac said.
Watch out if your low level - if I remember correctly the guys in there carry paralysis swords, and my level 30 nord had a pretty hard time with them if it was more than 2 enemies at once.

My character is a lv 46 nord, and a gamewinner, wielding an ungodly sword, and a full set of medium armor, (Elite indoril, from mod... pretty good actually!) with a medium armor skill of 60 something. (Don't ask, i have about the same in heavy and light... ive used everything at some point. And my character can outrun anything in or out of the game.) a speed of 250, or even 550 (but tends to be glitchy... fps is like, 1 *sob*), and a 798 maximum magicka (NO CHEATS!!!!). It won't be hard. now i just gotta go find it... i think i remember a rock formation SORTA like that, but i dont have the paper map. (My parents threw the box with manual and map away when we moved... and i wasnt around to stop them!

It's close to the fort to the north east. UHS has downloadable maps of Solstheim that mark everything including chests submerged in the river that I never knew existed!
