My latest character is preparing for the last leg of the Tribunal main quest. I need to know if a grand soulgem will hold Almalexia's soul or is Azura's Star essential? I know that using Azura's star would make her trapped soul more valuable in terms of gold. Would it also have more enchanting power in the Star versus a grand soulgem?
Any creative ideas on uses for Almalexia's trapped soul?

You have to use Azura's Star, as far as I know. Just like with Vivec a grand soulgem isn't enough.

Okay, another side quest before the main event.
None of my characters ever trapped a god's soul. Usually they were too busy trying to stay alive to remember to cast soul trap. The souls may not be very useful except as souvenirs anyway. Maybe Bethsoft should have added one unique item with very high enchantment points to Bloodmoon. A truly legendary enchanted item would be a fitting tribute to the fallen gods.

You will require Azura's Star to capture the soul of the "Lady of Mercy"...
I would recommend you come very prepared to fight her, as well.. she is without a doubt the most powerful being I ever faced in Elder Scrolls III. My best advice would be to take potions of exclusive restore health, and have at least one high weapon skill. Also, this works great: gather lots of Hulking Fabricant Potions.. there's one room in the Clockwork City where two of them continually respawn after 24 hours.. kill them, take their potions, and rest for 24 hours.. repeat at least 20 times in a row. You should be able to more than triple your strength if you enter the dome of Sotha Sil and drink them all at once as your battle with Almalexia begins... beat her health halfway down in close quarters combat, being careful to dodge her sword when she uses it, if at all possible.. soultrap her when her health begins to get low, and finish her off.
Her soul would retail for 7,500,000 if anyone in Vradenfall could actually afford that...
I'd recommend either keeping it forever as a keepsake or making an uber-enchanted item with it.
