Hey devs, I am very, very sorry for you to lose your beloved creation like this. If you are still looking for your next modding project, I have a proposition. If any of you are interested, there is a BIG mod going on called Starsiege:2845. It's a total conversion from Tribes:Vengeance. I've seen some of your talent through screen shots and such and I think you could be very usefull to them. I'm not part of the staff, but I have been following the project closely from its inception. If any of you are interested, visit Mechnex.net for information about the project. It's officially sponsored by VU Games, the company that ripped your hearts out and gave them to you on a platter, but it is a HUGE project, and probably one of the last games we will see with the same devotion you had to MEMOD. I wish you luck in all you endevors, and please visit the site if you are interested in joining the dev staff for SS:2845. Good luck to all of you.

What site?

Really think the dev team are going to be following their own path rather than merging with another team - and I know they're looking to stay within the ES engine.
As I'm sure you thought, its worth a shot.

The mod is using a modifies version of the UT2K4 engine. If your interested, visit and ask around a bit.

Did this Starsiege thingy start independently from VU and then get taken over or did VU start it?? Someone please explain this to me.
If it was taken over, then maybe there is hope for memod (please dont flame me

). Its not like VU would have to buy the license. Also, to avoid spending any more money than they have to maybe they could provide the MEMod team with an engine that they already own with which it would not be excessively difficult to port stuff from the morrowind engine.
If the Starsiege mod was started by VU then please ignore this post.

SS:2845 is a labor of love, just like Memod was. The difference is they contacted VU and they have allowed the Dev team to develope the mod. It may be released as a download, or VU may put it in it's own box and ship it. VU hasnt taken over it, this is the same dev team that envisioned the mod. Clancore has close contact with VU, but clancore doesnt answer to VU, they develope it as they see fit.

Thanks... looks cool.... might DL it myself...
But no thanks on the part of us merging with them. We feel it better to choose our own path when developing a mod or game, on whatever engine, and not join an existing one.

You could ask VU to take you under their wing as they have with that team since you now know that they're into that sort of thing.
Slaiv
Oct 11 2004, 06:48 PM
That's been suggested before... but it would most likely not work, for various reasons. Which includes licensing the ES engine, which is not held by Vivendi. VIvendi is publishing and/or developing [I don't know which] Tribes: Vengeance, so it can sponsor such mods for free. It would not sponsor a nonprofit mod if it had to pay thousands of dollars to licence the engine.

What if you found a way to port to one of their engines?

When will you understand? The MEMod would not be done ever. Even if there was a hole in the law or something this team won't complete the mod. It just so simple, if there is no will there won't be any project

It looks cool, but I feel that Slaiv is correct. That would put Vivendi at odds with whoever holds the rights to Middle-Earth.
Let MEMod go, it was a good try, but seriously...

Not to mention the fact the mod's timeline and storyline would have to change, since Vivendi don't own the rights to any content before The Hobbit.

VIVENDI OWNS THE RIGHTS TO MIDDLE EARTH!!!!
EDIT: I wrote this before reading Dark One's post, but post-Hobbit MEMod is better than no MEMod.

I've been a lurker here for years, stopping in every few weeks to check on things. Needless to say, I'm upset by the turn of events, but I'm confident that we can work through this. Obviously I know more than the devs who have put blood, sweat, and tears into this project so of course everyone should listen to my ideas - because maybe no one has thought of them before!

The best option is obviously to simply change everything that has been done so far so that it doesn't quite match middle-earth. I've already been brainstorming and have come up with some helpful suggestions the devs might be interested in:
Playable characters could include:
Frito, of Bag EndYes, that's right! Modeling a corn chip would be a much smaller poly count and would run faster on slower machines! Of course he'd have to be the last one in there...
Jonfool, Frito's good friendHe could be obnoxious, unhelpful, and always uttering inane comments at the wrong time...
Grimri, son of GroinYou see, his ancestors lived in the mines of Morita (in southern japan)
LegoRelatively easy to model, especially since all you have to do is pull off his yellow head, and he can easily become any other character!
and finally,
CanGolfThat's right, he carries a strange putter that emits a glow and rides around on his trusty white golf cart (MW might have to support driveable vehicles for this...)
This is just a start to help the devs on their way - I'm looking forward to it!
Honestly guys, can we just move on? The dream is over. Let's let the devs move on to other things - the sooner we do that, the better off we all will be.

Its been mentioned before, and guess what rejected already changing everything in middle earth would make it not middle earth and thus destroy the point of what they are trying to do.

Prior to Grimri's birth, or at any cermony:
"All hail the great and mighty Groin!"
There have been waay to many "Bored of the Rings." Like the one in MAD, etc....

No no no, you guys are wrong. You mixed it all up.
What we are talking about here, is nr. 4 in the Tolkien series "More of the rings", and nr. 5 "More of all things", and nr. 6 "No more rings!".
The book you guys are talking about, is nr. 7 "Bored of the rings". In fact, Tolkien planned to write a nr. 8 to, but he got killed by a mob when he released the title. The title known as: nr. 8 "The thought of a ring".
Well, now you know the truth.
*mumble*... Thought of the ring... That was the most stupid title I ever created */mumble*

I can see it now....... the exact thing will be happening, if Middle Earth copyrights aren't renewed....
But if they are, no MEMod...

Exactly, "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" (You know that song?)
The Copyright isn't all bad, it stop assholes from making books like "No more Rings!"

But then... we have the Memod case... Oh, Memod

Double-edged sword...... If only there was some way for only the MEMod to bypass the copyrights............
Hopefully the copyrights will be renewed....

Seriously though, what does anyone have to lose by asking VU to take care of MEMod. It seems as though the devs are rejecting any ideas to revive memod without even considering them.
True, the timeline would have to be changed, but it would still be MEMod.
Slaiv
Oct 18 2004, 10:54 PM
No it wouldn't. It wouldn't work with the Storyline that Suze had set out, which was much of the basis of the mod.
They don't ask VU to help because unless the entire company was completely insane, they wouldn't pay thousands of dollars to licence the Engine and support a free product.

It's inevitable. Some people are in denial, some people are just stupid, etc....
Anyway - what happened to Suzerain?
Stefanzhr
Oct 19 2004, 11:28 PM
All I'm asking for is for the devs to stay open to options.
And where is Suzerain? If he's taking a vacation-good; if he's ignoring us because we're annoying- I guess that's good too.

| Suzerain was found dead aged 32 in the penthouse suite of the El Bastardo Grande Hotel, Bogota, apparently from a drug-induced overdose from snorting cocaine off the breasts of a nubile 17-year-old. |
