there are many 'themed' characters you can choose from, including the overgrown musclebound nordic/orcish warrior, teh dark intelligent powerful mage/sorceror, or the quick agile and secretive bowman. these of course are the mian three cliche images projected into pretty much every rpg on the face of the earth. then of course you can combine two or more of these characters in any proportion or ratio you want.

or you can simple use your imagination ro create a new and original 'genre' of character type and attitude.

another way i have seen people make characters is that they emulate certain characters in movies, like lord of the rings, or other video games, like link from the legend of zelda series.

another factor you could use in creation of your character is functionality, or challenge. i myself have made a character of a custom 'commoner' class, who majors in no combat or magic skills. this proved to be a very good way to make the game a but more interesting, involving, and difficult.

biggrin.gif mmm, i wish i could have posts like this 'stickied' or 'pinned' or whatever you guys have.

And also a continuation on the difficulty idea. If you want to add an extra level of difficulty to the game, just make a charachter that doesnt fit. Ill explain, something like a wood elf heavy warrior, or a nordic mage. Just try something that doesnt seem logical. It tends to be more fun then youd expect. Who doesnt get a laugh out of seeing a wood elf in heavy armor, com on......anybody.

However you start, by the time you reach level 50 most of the game will be too easy. You can set the difficulty slider to max and then make it hard for your character to get started - have no weapon skills for instance; unarmoured hand-to-hand at such difficulty is a real effort. Then if you are on PC there are mods designed to make things harder.

If you didn't have to increase skills to get promoted in the various factions to get their quests I wouldn't bother to level up as much as I do at the moment!
