Full Version: What will become of the team?

I know it has been suggested many times that you make another mod, etc....

I just hope that you stay together, and that you stay on these forums. You're presence, status, and relationship with the users has become a normal, reliable presence here. While I have no right to control what you do, but I am simply asking if you will stay in touch, or stay together as a team, etc....?

Oh, and what will become of the MEMod forums? Will they stay? Get deleted? I vote for stay.

Finally, what will become of the website? It's not illegal to have the site up, is it?
Padishar Creel
I should hope not. I just started using the forums here dry.gif So if they get shut down, well. I suppose the word 'decaptitation' comes into play somewhere...

Pads happy.gif
Peregrine
The forums are going nowhere. This is a Morrowind forum that just happens to host MEMod as well. Whatever is done with the MEMod sections, the rest of the site will go on as usual.
Maquissar
Glad to hear that. I also hope that the MeMod Team - which will have to find a new name now, I guess - will stay together, and create some quality mods/Total Conversions/Games. But let's give them some time - after all, the official announcement just came 2 days ago, and here we are, badgering them about what will be their next project, or asking them to release the scripts and models they have created. Maybe it'd be better if the words "MeMod", "MeMod Team" and "copyrights" were not mentioned again on these forums for a few days. smile.gif
Slaiv
I agree that everyone should stop asking for models. It's like asking a recently-deceased father's child who gets what in the will during the funeral service.
Kahenraz
I find it a bit ironic how some people have the oppinion that the forum will cease to exist with the recent events.
Slaiv
Just to clarify - I meant the team leaving, not the forums. Another clarification - I was asking something more along the lines of the forums being locked. I hope not. I also hope that they remain on MWSource Forums, although I don't see why they wouldn't.

Whatever happened to MeMod? ahh. I remember it was all in the good old days when they still measured processor speeds in gigahertz. But we did a little research, about the members... the Solar System Search ( SSS.burntoutmodders.net) came up with the following

Suzerain was found dead aged 32 in the penthouse suite of the El Bastardo Grande Hotel, Bogota, apparently from a drug-induced overdose from snorting cocaine off the breasts of a nubile 17-year-old.

Theta Orionis was jailed in Arkham institute for the criminally insane in 2006 after a long-delayed email asking "when's the MeMod out? Prove it's not dead" finally caused her to snap, and commit a planet-wide genocide of the Morrowind Source Forums. It was later suspected that she changed her identity and escaped and took up a successful career as a Evil Genius, only flawed in her failure to continue studying geology after MeMod resulting in her choice of a live volcano...

Dark0ne was found dead around the same time as the initial massacre, apparently for trying to prevent her from using an IP search to identify the members' locations.

Diseased Punk finally succumbed to his nickname in 2064, when his leprosy finally got the better of him in a Green Day 70th anniversay tour, and his head fell off in the moshpit.

Immortal Snafu was apparently quite surprised to discover he was'nt, Ironically, in Hurricane Frodo in 2023.

Morgoth never quite managed to shake off his nickname, resulting in an unfortunate ejection into the void while enroute to a new life in the New Hamburg moonbase.

Rynos eventually rose to being the PA to a prominent international corporation, only for Suzerain and DP's influence to finally make him decide to get a 'PA' all of his own. unfortunately this was infected, and he died from blood poisoning not long after little Rynos fell off.

Kahenraz' experiments in polygon modelling managed to create an angle that was obtuse, and yet acute at the same time. While attempting to publish his findings, this blasphemous geometry opened a portal to Ry'leh, and he was grabbed in by tentacled monstrosities from an alternate dimension and never seen again.

Greywolf lived up to his name, and was shot by hunters while hiking in Alaska. His head was later sold on Ebay as "a strange wolf that looked like a human". the hunters were never prosecuted.

Other fates befell the team members of the Memod project, such that by 2067, the imfamous holo-reel horror shocker "curse of the Memod's Doom" was released by Microsoft-Warner-Jutani Corporation. The lead monster was only titled "D".

Yeah, a while ago. Most of you said "fantasy" to explain the devotion to a Morrowind mod. But I, along with the other team members, out-voted you in favor of "horror so dark it will claim your sanity."

I'm not sure what everyone else is going to be doing now that MEMod is no more, but for myself, I'm working on a game with several guys from college. I am, of course, open to any invitation from Suz if he is going to be working on something new as I'm sure everyone else in the team is. As for my current project, I'm developing a 2D game engine for the game my friends and I are making, it will be an online trading card game -- similar in style to MTG online but it won't... suck. You also won't pay ot play tongue.gif I'm pushing for freeware with donations for running our server.

I'm also continuing my work on the "Models" database I was working on for MEMod because I"m sure it will be useful in other projects.
Tor_Anders
Firstly, I intented to start a new thread with this post, but I realised that there was already one, so let me just continue here:

These last few days has been a battle with feelings of anger and despair for me. And as I have learned to accept that MEMod most likely is over, I have also understood that it is not only Middle Earth that attracted me to this project, though that was what triggered my interest, part of my fascination lay in the actual content of the world they wanted to give us. The realism features, the inventiveness of the devs... Everything they said and promised on the forums lit my imagination and prompted me to get involved. I'm actually having doubts wether I am a MEMod-fan or a MEMod-TEAM-fan... What's all this coming to? Well, it has been discussed that the team should convert MEMod to a new subject and setting. Several possible ideas have sprung up about what and where this mod should be, and though the Devs deserve some time to mourn and decide if they even want to do something new, though my impression is that many are open to such an endeavour, maybe we could start discussing possible settings for any future project for this fine bunch of modders.

Of course the binding link between the devs in MEMod was always the common love for Middle Earth, but hopefully it would be possible to find something everybody wants to do. There has been suggestions of both a Beowulf-mod and a mod based on norse-mythology and Edda. I would have to say that my favorite is an Edda-Mod (I'm Norwegian, what can I say?) as this is not to far away from Middle Earth, and much of the concept from MEMod could be transfered into such a project.

I posted this here with renewed faith due to my recent revelation that though MEMod is dead, it doesn't mean the team is! And also hoping this discussion would get my thoughts off MEMod, which I can't explain how much meant to me, and as an attempt to remedy the despair I'm sure many with me feel right now. 'We have to move on' as many have tried to tell us. I haven't been very receptive to this so far, but now I think I finally understand... Soooo, what do you think? Anybody have any brilliant ideas?

I am not well versed in history, or anything really. I'm a 'knows-a-little-bit-about-everything' kind of guy... But what I think might be cool is a mod set in Scandinavia/Britain/France around 800-1200 a.d. maybe later. Or perhaps based simply on the 'fantasy-like' part of Norse Mythology. Anyway I just wanted to hear what all you people think of this... Devs? I know you, Suz, love this kind of stuff! What do you wanna do?

As you say: "Let's move on!"
surian
A norse mod or game would be a lot of fun. Norse mythology is one of my favorites. However, I'm still partial to greek mythology just because of it's artistic flair, norse mythology is much more "up my alley" in terms of my personality wink.gif

hmm?

*looks up from her wipe-clean lift-the-flap no-sharp-edges edition of the Necronomicon*

Addendum:
Following release of the Morrowind Source Archives under the Freedom of Information Act in 2053, a PhD student in Artificial Reality and Relativistic Psychology Studies, out to solve the enigma of Suzerain's gender for his thesis titled 'Playing with yourself - the Effect of Single Player CRPGs on the Self' (the title was swiftly corrected to 'playing by yourself' when the author's Freudian slip was noticed following publication), made the startling discovery that Suzerain's body 'disappeared' from the Bogota morgue. Further investigation revealed that the pathologist carrying out the post mortem was found skewered on the business end of a bastard sword....
Unwilling to follow up rumours of a strange new cult in the rainforest which began to circulate around that time, the PhD student did, however, succed in unearthing the birth certificate of a 'Suzie Ran'....
The student did not return from a further trip to research this cult.... which was rumoured to be worshipping a double-headed deity referred to as Timandboris.

Well, it has been discussed that the team should convert MEMod to a new subject and setting.

We have indeed discussed this, and come to the conclusion that our top priority must be to preserve the name of MEMod, and have discussed at length ways which will allow us to keep this proud appellation.

We therefore proudly present...

The Middle East Mod for Morrowind

This fully immersive open-ended storyline will take the player from humble beginnings as a goatherd to participation in an epic battle for oil between the forces of good and evil. Rideable camels will take the player from the dwarven mansion of Petra to the glades of datepalms in Lothloriental oases, and to the elvensmiths of Damascus; from lonely Mount Ararat to the Dead Sea of Rhun, from the bucolic peace of the Oasis of Es-Shire-H to the great city of Minas Aqaba.

Enjoy.

I don't mind the Norse mythology scenario, but I think a more suitable setting for a conversion of this Mod would be King Arthur's England (the dark ages, about 6th century AD).

I find the whole legend of the knights of the round table and their quest for the holy grail very fascinating (note: "legend", NOT "movie"! The latter tried to be "historical" and flunked it!) . Also since the story has such popular roots it has been re-told countless of times in many different forms, which other than leaving plenty of gaps for an untold story, cannot lead to any copyright infringement....

Besides that, I think the setting has the correct mix of intrigue, mystery, struggle of good vs. evil and even magic, to reasonably match Tolkien's Middle Earth (if we exclude non-human races at least...) And thinking about it, the technological advancement is about right, meaning the team wouldn't have to do too much new modelling... what do you guys think?

I guess that, personally, if I cannot be a Knight of Rohan, I wouldn't mind at least being a Knight of the Round Table (or at least a squire!)...

I understand I don't have to worry... I would love both an Arthurian mod, a norse mod, or even just a plain medieval setting! I think I'll end up happy either way.

But about this Middle East mod; Will there be playable arabs and can you wield the one AK-47? wink.gif

QUOTE (Tor_Anders @ Sep 22 2004, 02:58 PM)
can you wield the one AK-47? wink.gif

No. Doing so would go against the purpose of a canon-based MEMod. Through the entire potential timeline of the mod, the AK-47 is owned by Comrade Peregrine. If you devote your entire game to it, you might be able to see it in his hands in the half-second before he kills you with it. If you somehow manage to get your hands on it, you will be the victim of an instant kill script to preserve history.
Tor_Anders
Comrade Peregrine? I thought it was in the hands of.. whats he called? lives in a dark cave... crazy... Gol... no, Osama was it... But I guess that depends on the timeline.

Yes. At the beginning of the mod timeline, Comrade Peregrine's armies have reclaimed the AK-47 and are bringing a dark shadow over Middle East.

The new King Aurthor movie=

S, for Some Simpleton actually expects me to buy this as "the TRUE story" of Aurthor and the Knights of the round. It couldn't be farther from true.

U, for Underestimating the power of critics to spot shoddy acting, rushed and plot-less plot and complete lack of historical context that they claim the movie to be bases on.

C, for Concoction of Characters all trying to be the cast of The Thirteenth Warrior.

K, for Kills two birds (fantasy and history) with one wickedly tossed stone.

S, for Stupidest waste of money for me this year.

thats right folks, it downright SUCKS. The acting was horrible, the movie had no believability, the fight seens were just playing boring (I'm not exaggerating when I say that if fell asleep for a couple of minutes during the end fight), and everything was just plane nonsensical. And there is no "true" or "historical" version of Aurthor, only speculation bases on bits and pieces of evidence that make for about a hundred different possible "real" stories. Guinevere was really hot though!!

peace

P.S. The story of Camelot has so many mix-and-matchable variations and elements that it could be a modders dream.
pharzon
Although I agree that the movie wasn't especially good, I can't see why you can claim it isn't historical. I thought no one knew the true history of Arthur, or perhaps you're the only one, Cailwyn? Not that I would have envisioned it that way AT ALL, but still..

pharzon..

That is exactly my point, how can they pawn it of as the "true" story when there is no true story. And actually, the one "true" story that they are trying to represent is completely out of the chain of REAL history. There was a Roman the united some Britons in rebellion against Rome, NOT Saxon invaders!

But there are many factual possibilities when it comes to Aurthor and that movie showed none of them.

Also, there are entire schools of people who's careers are completely devoted to the true history of Aurthor, if there even is one, so I guess I'm NOT the only one, huh? wink.gif
