I did in fact search but the thread was dead. The fishing thread seams to be suggesting a 1 person skiff. I was thinking of a majestic huge port containing all sorts of boats up for chartering or eventually buying. For bringing huge amounts of goods or battleing corsairs. Hire a crew for a lot or collect some commoners and train them for cheap. Scout for Gondor or just turn into a salty sailor only comfortably on the high seas.

Keep up the good work and by the way, nice job with the secrecy, it will make the game a lot better at the premier and beyond.

i'm not sure that the game engine is capable of making a 3d pirates simulation.
but it is a nice idea.

take a look to "sea dogs" and "pirates of carribbean" games. both made by bethesda.

As I said in the fishing-thread: The Fishing Academy is worth trying! I have not gotten as far with it myself, but it is claimed that you are able to walk around on the ship while sailing. And in the latest version I think a cannon is available as an upgrade... I do not know this, rather I have read it somewhere. I suggest you try it out. As for MEMod: they have no lack of talent, obviously, so I see no reason not to expect great things from them! cool.gif I believe this is such a thing that would greatly enhance the mod, but also chase the release further into the future! Let's just see what the devs decide...

Ahh. I asummed fishing academy was a small fishing skiff with cramped quarters; not an actual ship with cannons availible. I'm not sure cannons will work in MEMOD becuase they require gunpowder. Still standing by for the experts though.

I think there has been a sailing/fishing topic before... And the MW engine would be capable of doing that since there is in fact a MW mod, if my memory serves me well, for fishing/camping.

well, if there is not gunpowder, there can be catapults, ballistas, archers with flaming arrows on the deck...

It would be fairly complex to implement such a feature and still have the quality high enough to meet MEMod's standards, so I wouldn't bet on it being in the mod.

while waiting, let's think al little bit about it...

if you can script a ship's movements and the navigation, anyway the rest of it, is in the game. (trade, weapons, money etc...) writing scripts for hireing some man isn't a very difficult i think. navigation of the ship can be made by dialog boxes, you go to master sailer or master nav. officer and say which direction you would like to set sail. but Draxiar says that the real problem is the collision detection.
i don't have much programming experiance so i can't say anything about practical issues of this idea.

Ahh, I'm lost in the catagory of scripting so I don't think I will partake in this debate.

I think you're asking too much of the Devs. A Pirates! mod? Why not add some features from Civilization then? Let the player found new cities, build roads, mine mountains, cut down whole forests... then you could give control of your cities to some governors who would decide which units and improvements must be built... and, don't forget to put some of The Sims in the Me-Mod! There are already health, mana and fatigue meters, why not add comfort, social, fun? And, when you get bored... you can always get a ball and start playing soccer or basketball... after all it can't be too hard to code... those guys at Ea Sports do it every year...

And/or take old games and slap some new faces on them, then sell them at full retail price. wink.gif

I heard early from a dev that it wouldn't be that hard considering theirs already the fishing academy mod for mw. They could get premission to use it and just about be done with it. Of course that's just what I've been told.

It would be possible, but the extra time and effort that would need to go into perfecting it would be too much.

I think it would be well to include this feature. I'm not in support of say the entire chartering of a whole pirate ship and taking over cities with it....But something simpler where you can just have your own boat, with some slaves or something to help you sail it, but not a fleet of warships....

Just my thoughts on things.

All I ask for is a small Elvish boat that I can sail around in.

Then again, it's not my mod, so I can't demand anything.
