Will you be able to cheat in anyway (I expect no because you seem to be fanatic about it) but how is this possible? Is it possible to completly take out the console? If so, what happens if you get stuck, because you won't be able to use tcl/fixme?
Wookiee
it is imposible to to compleatly remove cheating but it will be more dificult in some casses becouse of the scripts running the expect there to be no drastic changes and will generate errors (on purpose) if the changes are to drastic or simply reset values if they are sudenly not what the scripts where expecting... also becouse these scripts will be using local variables and are global in nature it is very dificult to change the scripts in game via consol ... also doing so with the tes editor may have other consiquences wink.gif the scripts are delocatly balenced and the manipulation of one can have a "butterfly effect" throughout the rest of them often with horendus results.

I never expected such anti-cheat measures - are you sure including such "delicately balenced" scripts isn't going to be counter productive, in terms of game performance and editing your own mod? Also, does this mean that you don't want other people making mods of your mod? Yes, the majority of little modifications released are unbalanced, unrealistic and just a nusiance (don't worry modders doing this, thats just the learning part), but there are some good mods about.
In my opinion, cheating just makes games less interesting, so the uninterested cheaters could just bore themselves out of the game... although you don't really want people saying "This is a really really boring, annoying mod" just because they're cheating.
Not sure if there's actually any point or conclusion to what I'm saying... sorry.
But good idea including anti-cheat scripts!

Why not just add a cheat where you can become Eru and cast level five fireball until the end of the game? sure, that might not be anything like what Tolkien invisioned, but it would be fun for about eighty seconds.

Cheating would cheepen the game experience down to its core. MEmod is all about exploring Middle-Earth and seeing sights that you read about. It is about the closest anyone is ever going to get to actually living in Middle-Earth. Why would anyone wanna taint that experience by lessening the realism?

peace
Rynos
We will try to ensure that cheating in MEmod will not be possible.

There will, however, be the console still to be used for things like "fixme".
Illuvarin
You don't want to cheat in MEMod because if Rynos finds out he might get a bit angry so watch your back if you do cheat.

heh all these scripts are necisary for the level of realism and unobtrusivness we are going for and there isent to big a frame rate hit atm... 2 fps with unoptimised scripts at the moment but yeah hardware is improving so im sure ppl will be able to handle it smile.gif also if some one wants to make a mod for the game id be more than willing to explain how to do things... or get the creator of the script in question to help but most mods wont need to tamper with any of the guts scripts just the "list" scripts that have relavent info about content that can be modifyed independent of the "guts" and sure it aint that hard to make an uber wepon that will kill anything in one hit and make you invincable and import it as its own mod on top... there is simply nothing we can do about that... but man how dull smile.gif why not bild a tc where you are invincable and everything just calls you master... bout the same realy same level of exitment... in short cheating is being looked down appon becouse it cheepens the game for yourself and if ya give bad word of mouth about a game we have been working on becouse you cheated well... that just boils my blood having said that most "anti cheating" scripts are side efects for instance

----@Script spoiler ahead@----

the detection of suden impacts looks for the speed the player is moving and constantly checks for sudden stops it has within it a flag to halt this reading for internal to external transition and some internal to internal transition otherwise some speed decreeses measure in exess of a 32000 kmph gain and drop in speed all at once causing the player to turn inside out so to speak now this flag is trigured by a script at just the right time to stop the splatification... now supose our consol cheater wanted to just telaport from one external cell to another or one internal cell to another this would cause the registering of huge increases and decreases in speed withought the flag... following me here smile.gif and as you cant set the flag and telaport fast enough via consol telaporting manualy will be imposible withought wrighting a specific script to tellaport you to the location of choice for EACH location of choice... The script was wrigten to deal damage to ppl falling a long way into water or say tubling down a hill or "skiing" normaly done safely but now if you hit a tree on the way down... CRUNCH (note becouse water slows decent gradualy less damage is taken but it still hurts) another side efect of this is that if a player say aww sets there speed to aww 1000 for instance to run faster across the country side... spat spat as it registers the extream variations in speed and damages acordingly... naturaly a script like this requires alot of ironing out of bugs to get it working relieably so any nonsence tweeking with it may also kill you (or just break the script compleatly) wich can efect other things like acurate representation of wind speed based on the actual speed taking into acount the speed and direction the player is traveling in and broken at the wrong time say aww when speed is at 32000 kmph and hangs there so you dont die... well youll freaze to death from the sevear windchill while standing still with no actual wind...

so yes we arnt activly preventing cheaters but we arnt activly alowing them eather i could put buffers and limiters on these scripts to alow for player modification influences but i choose not to (well i actualy do do this for testing purposes but i take em out in the final product)

there i have heard alot of inquery into the "anti cheating scripts" and i hope this clears up some of the monstering we have been reciving with ppl saying "why are you trying to take away my ability to cheat what do you care?" and I answer we arnt trying we are just not taking steps to alow for cheating and doing so may break the game system and result in unforseen death from the strangest of things. I for one have frozen to death standing on a fire after increasing my speed to much and breaking the script (i think i did mine to 10k tho) having said that you may be able to cheat a little bit but you prolly wont know if you have broken a script and are heading for unavoidable death untill after many save games (shrugs) alternatively cheat alot and you may just die all at once ... or not at all and get away with it depends what you are trying to do... or you could go into the editor and serch out all the scripts (HAHAHAHAHA) and manualy take em out so that it doesent have realisem at all and play alah morrowind... but doing that would cause most other scripts to generate errors and crash the game becouse of missing variables and such... but it is posible to go through and get all such things out... just ALOT of work and frankly its alot of work alowing for cheating in these scripts so im not bothering smile.gif

sorry all the wana bee cheaters im not against you im just not going to help ya out guys but if you figure out ways around or things i have missed i wont "fix it" becouse we are not "activly" singeling out cheaters but yeah less efort to just play the game as is aye... hope this clears up a bit smile.gif

Well, that was a good reply, wookiee! Someone should add this post to the Daerk on thread, as it sets the record straight concerning cheating.

pharzon..
