Well joining the temple can give you great artifacts if you play through all the quests (ending up with the best cuirass in morrowind IMO). And the pilgrim's path is a quest to visit several shrines described in the book The Pilgrim's Path to be able to join the temple.

Most Temple quests do fit the standard Morrowind format for quests, albeit some with a bit of a puzzler or morals check thrown in. You will hunt vampires, fulfill the Seven Graces, heal the sick, feed the hungry, and even recover artifacts the Temple managed to lose.
All in all, they're not bad quests, and not nearly as monotonous as some of the other quests Morrowind offers. Some of them, though, are a bit long in scope, requiring vast amounts of travel.

Not to mention you get perhaps the greatest in-game cuirass of all.

Be careful about killing the vampires though. They have cool quests you might want to do first.

Have some patience in the beginning of your temple membership. The pilgrimages I think are the worst part. Try to have a good athletics score before you go or you might become irritated.

Also I recommend combining the 'escort' quests. There are three, to Kummu, Koal Cave and Ghostgate. (And a fourth if house redoran, to Koal Cave).
