When playing Morrowind, every so often the game will slow... down... and... then... completely... stop. And then the sound will get all crackily and after about 20-30seconds it'll return to normal.

Anyway to stop this or any idea of what's causing it?

The old problem(with EVERY game not just MW) was that my comp would get too hot.

Well, the side of my tower has been removed and a small fan is blowing in set on "High" so I doubt that would be the problem.

For whatever reasons, my comp specs are:
1.8ghz
768RAM
256meg GeforceFX 5600

i had the same problem and updated my sound card drivers after that the cracking sounds stop later i stepped over to dx 9.0 and everything was normal
