This is allegedly what happened:

Quote

Hello Every one

I would like to tell you a short eve story
Today all of my EvE Online accounts were banned
I was sure that this day would come.
What surprises me is that it took CCP this long to catch up with me.
Even though they knew about it.

But now to the story:

The time is November 2004.
The EvE Universe is excited about the Starbase patch.
The new System Sov. is introduced.
The face of Eve has changed.
How right they are.

Two weeks after Patch day we built our first POS.
We wanted a piece of the moon mining pie and also wanted to figure out how it word as none of us knew exactly.
After our first try we were aggravated that we could get it working and decided to try again the next day to finish our project.
The next day to our amazment we found that the silos in our unfinished POS chain were full. After a short time we found out the reason for this phenomenon.
The POS system was BUGGED.
Of course a petition was sent to CCP to make them aware of this situation and the answer was sobering.

“Your petition has been received” CLOSE

But the phenomenon was still there.
After a week we decided what to do.
We built a POS network that included over a dozen POS’s in lowsec and checked the market prices. After a short look we decided on Ferrogel and Fermionic Condensates.

The Story today.

The expanse of this so far is probably lost on most people so I would like to make a few facts clear.
In the past 4 jears we are talking about ISK in value of 2.500.000.000.000 ISK to 3.000.000.000.000 ISK.
That’s 2500 – 3000 billion.
Everyone that owns a T2 item can bet that it was build in part from resources due to this phenomenon.
At this point I would like to thank CCP for making it possible to buy GTC’s with ISK.
So much about us.

What the other 3 large alliances did with this knowledge is unknown to me.
But I can tell you that we’ve sat with coverts in front of POS chains and watched it happen.

Titans are expensive !

In closing.

Some I’m sure will say “well are you proud of yourself?” or “You cheater-exploiter”
I only have one thing to say to that.
.
This issue allowed me to play Eve how and when I liked.
It didn’t matter what item or what happened in Eve. I spent ISK with out thinking about the price.
I haven’t paid a cent for any of my Eve accounts for 4 years now.
And have had many amusing moments reading posts in EVE-O.

I don’t know you and to be honest Eve and most of you I could care less about.
But my thanks go out to you all, you were wonderful statistics on this virtual stage.

Regards,

The Writer

As a trader I am anxiously waiting to see how the market reacts. Have this sick feeling that all T2 stuff is going to become prohibitively expensive, and to some extent regret not dealing in T2 currently :)

It seems that the entire Eve universe is shaking!

i tend to ponder tho, how this guy managed to buy GTC's from isk, for 4 years, using isk, when the system hasn't even been around that long.

and another easy to picture fact about this,

lets say you have system 1.

now system 1, has 3 stations, with 70 buy orders for the particular moon ore they were "exploiting". within 1 day, they fill said buy orders, because they had infinite, unlimited resources. now they have to move to system 2. and so on, within a few months, they could've done a region.

The hole in this "exploit" ?, there is only x amount of demand, piling that amount of moon resources into the market would've just made it eventually useless. now go into =EVE= and open up the market, check the prices on moon ores, hmm they're still really expensive, but surely, after throwing 3000billion worth into the mix would've made the ore somewhat.,.. cheap ?.

The majority of T2 equipment and ships, are built via trading corps, who tend to be self efficient, they get there won resources etc., and make they're own t2 equipment, then sell it to pay for corp. fee + split remaining profit.

Its pretty safe to assume, 1/100 at least, corps, have a POS. to think this guy was the only 1 to stumble across this bug, and keep his mouth shut? i don't think so. have u seen how much money you can make opening a simple website or selling exploits on ebay ? lol. oh yeah REAL money, not 3000billion isk.

========================================================

the end of the day tho, your right samroski, whilst simple logic pretty much makes this viewable as 99.9% bullSh.. , no doubt, the eve populous will be effected by this, people will start to save up ore + materials to craft T2 on the expectancies that the market will be effected by this, there for starving the game of certain modules. when these come back they're going to be expensive. Supply and demand rules unfortunately.

Tell a country a water shortage is going to happen, every single person will rush to shops to fill theyre cars up with bottled water. whether its true or not.

It would be interesting to see if this is exactly what happened and whether everybody rushed to Jita and bought all the T2 stuff...

This is a given and HAS happened. It's not a hoax.

It's shocking stuff really. I'm more pissed off that Ferrogel, Stront, etc. are all the things I deal with in the market. If I wasn't in China while this happened I'd have been set to make a huge profit off of this (Ferrogel prices have atleast doubled). Lame!

so what is this something new or old?

To be honest, although i see holes in it and personally i find it hard to believe, it also wouldn't surprise me if it was true. lets face it, CCP spend 90% of there time and resources for fleet wars, they dnt give a monkeys nut about anything else any more. hell make a trial account and what the "mods" in the rookie help channel .. what a nice welcome to game, when ever there not slapping a bind down its some shitty comment. Example ( one i remember from other day, no one forgets this )

Quote

Newbie pilot : How do i make isk ?

Quote

Rookie Help Mod : Buy a GTC

the new patch, a few memory leaks etc., a 1000 fleet battle helpers. so yeah the fact they ignored the petition isn't a gob smacking statement.
