Recently there were several Japanese mods uploaded without permission. After numerous reports about the files being stolen/uploaded without permission the files were hidden from public viewing and downloading. Subsequently the mods have been deleted, as per the wishes of their authors/creators.

I have spent the last several days making contact with the Japanese modding community trying to get permission from the various authors with some level of success.

Most of the files in question are still WIP's and as such have not been released to the general public as of yet, most of these authors are members here and will upload their work when it is completed and tested.

In a few cases however, the files are not to be shared outside of the 2ch forums as the author(s) do not have permission to use some of the contents from their original creators. Specifically pose mods that are a compilation of many different creators and permissions from all is difficult or impossible to obtain.

It must be understood that the Japanese modding community has their own rules that should be respected, you are free to visit their forums and download what interests you, however uploading content here without permission will not be tolerated. We will afford all mod creators the same courtesy and respect their wishes regardless of where they call home.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope some level of understanding with our various cultures has been reached and a spirit of continued cooperation and support will be the end result.

Buddah

I posted this in the forums a few weeks ago, but many do not frequent the forums, so I am reposting it here, so others may become aware of the sites policy.

O Great Buddha! Please bestow upon us the link to the 2chan page where we might view some of these Japanese mods. 2Chan is a terrible and fearsome place!

All well and good but I'd just like to comment on how our sensitive Japanese cousins are not so sensitive when it comes to ripping content from western mods (without asking permission).

The admin and staff are concerned with what happens on this site, we cannot control what happens elsewhere. So that point is moot and totally irrelevant to this discussion.

In regards to Floydian's comment:

Even if that is true, if we show respect for their work, it definately makes US look better, and is the first step toward respect on both sides.

If on the flip side, we do not, neither group will respect the other, as what reason will they have to respect us if we don't respect them?

Of coarse Buddah is correct, I would never dream of posting anybody else's work here without permission no matter who they are.

I was just saying what many are thinking I suspect, when you know the reason they don't share is not because they simply don't want to (which is fine) but instead is because you are foreigner.

DarkDragon, good luck with that although I suspect you're in for a very long wait, if I took their attitude in this country I'd no doubt be branded racist.

Although my Japanese is quite limited, non-existent in reality, with the help of google translator and others. I have noticed some encouraging signs and conversations on a few of their sites. Translation and non ability to support the english version is the biggest problem and concerns [personal view], like all modders they are proud of their work and don't want it to cause problems or have bugs.

I have also seen talk about Exnem and TFF/UFF and all derivative work being open source as set in the license agreement for the base mods and there appears to be some understanding and acceptance of these issues.

This topic although titled "Japanese" in reality would be equally applicable to anyone, it is respect for the mod maker and their creations and deals with permission issues for uploaded content on this site.

All content on the 2ch forums is available for all to download, it is getting it into the game that can be quite a bother, meshes and textures are relatively easy, but converting the esp, text and dialog is daunting. Downloading and extraction methods are a little unorthodox as well, but it can be done...the documentation is in japanese and notepad and wordpad screw it up and make it non decipherable gibberish....still looking for an addon or language pack to make this doable.

Are there some secret downloads on secure servers, almost assuredly but I know for a fact that the same goes on in many places, not just japan. I have many limited or private releases on my HD that cannot be shared publicly due to permission reasons or other legal reasons.

Do I wish their work was available here, a resounding YES.
