Yet another "Can't figure out why I'm crashing" thre

Hiya,

I stopped playing a few months ago because I couldn't figure out this crash problem (I've been enjoying Dragon Age: Origins of late).

Seeing 2012 last night put me in the mood for diving back in (particularly since I still haven't done Point Lookout and Zeta yet) and I thought I had removed the crash problem by taking my mods down to the minimum and removing the big Terminator mod I had (which I enjoyed but it was buggy).

I started a save game from just before leaving the vault and all seemed well for a while.

That is, until I was on my way from Megaton to Minefield for Moira. I get about half way there and then whenever I try a save after looting I CTD.

I know it is a lot to ask but please, if you have any advice on what may be conflicting in my mods to cause this, I would very much appreciate it.

One minor thing and one major thing:

First the minor: BrokenSteel.esm should be the last of the DLCs to load (it sets the level cap to 30).

Now the major: If your save game relied on content from mods that are now uninstalled, you are ripe for a crash, particularly if the mod(s) gave perks and those perks were not removed from your save file.

Try with a new game.

You'll also want Timeslip's Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) and ElminsterAU's FO3Edit. The first is great for load-ordering your mods. The second is a must-have for finding and fixing mod conflicts. You'll want Miax's great FO3Edit Guide - Web-enized to learn how to use FO3Edit to its maximum troubleshooting potential.

I've never removed any mods I felt would impact my saves (such as a perks one) but yesterday I did completely uninstall, reinstall and start a new game and I'm fine up until the same point. *sigh*

I do use FOMM and now I'm trying to get my head around FO3Edit. That guide will surely help.
