There were many quests still to do and places I had not yet been I think. Should I have refused or what?

oh what?... can't I go back a couple of saves and find a way to get the game to continue?
what's broken steel? a mod?
theres loads yet that I haven't done - perhaps I ought to start again and not bother with the main quest at all... besides, Fawkes owes me a drink

Broken Steel is an official add-on to the game by Bethesda. It extends the game past the purifier incident. However you still need to play as normal.

There also some mods tha allow you to continue the game but if you intend to purchase Broken Steel (now that you know about it) be careful because their have a lot of compatibility issues.
And you still load an previous save ( before the Take it back begins ) and do the othe quest.
oh and BTW with Broken Steel the game becomes open-ended.

You might laugh at me, but actually I almost feel relieved to have 'finished' - it is all a bit grim for me really. I prettied it up a bit with a couple of greenery mods, and had the mini hideout to escape to, so that made it more bearable, but even so it was more about enduring than enjoying for me - but then ladies of my age are not supposed to play or enjoy these sorts of games... are they? We are supposed to drool over grandchildren and gossip, and knit mittens for charity, yuk, perish the thought. Ho hum

You won't want the Point Lookout add-on then -- that's even grimmer, but in a different way
I'm thinking of taking a break from Fallout and going back to Oblivion for a bit of bucolic R&R. Fallout's dystopian wreckage and assorted crazies can get a tad wearing after a while..

Was wondering if I should buy one of the older Call of Duty games - the latest is too expensive for me - but would I like it? All this destroying and killing - I would rather build up. Or should I just go back to Silent Hunter or X3TC, completely different games, and give face-to-face killing a rest? Decisions..

why buy FPS (first person shooter), when you don't like killing ?
and well Fallout does deliver what i says
i quote original Fallout 2 line:
FALLOUT 2 A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game
and boy does it deliver
