Greetings,

I've noticed that Ayleid Wells may produce a sort of jingling sound before being activated. I've heard only some wells produce this sound. And those only produce the sound sometimes. So I can't say for sure that only some wells make the sound because the wells that do make the sound, only do it sometimes.

Does anyone know...

Why is the jingling sound only produced sometimes? Is the sound only made when certain conditions exist?

Is the sound only produced by some wells and not others? If so, which ones?

On my machine, Oblivion is erratic. The sounds do not always activate. I suspect they are always supposed to activate, but maybe it is this way on every computer. I bet if you opened the CS and looked at all the Ayleid wells, you would discover that all of them have the red speaker symbol nearby and all are capable of making the jingling if the hardware and software are right.

I noticed that the only wells to make the jingling are the ones which are right next to an ayleid ruin. The ones you find all by themselves are silent. I don't know why. It took me a long time to figure this out, but I still haven't figured out why it is this way.

At one time my observations had led me to the same conclusion. However, I have since heard several of the 'stand alone' wells jingling. The one just south of Brindle Home (a stone's throw from Melus Pelitius's house) is an example.

Open the CS and do some empirical analysis. Go to the Ayleid wells and see if the red sound symbol is present at each well. It is my contention that sounds do not always play. It is kind of like on old computers that had a limited number of sound chips. If Oblivion wants five sounds to play at once, only some of them will make it to the speakers. Sometimes my healing spells or fireballs become temporarily silent. I assume because too much has been going on audio-wise. And the way the game engine is structured, a missed trigger point often means a noticeable period of time when an action is lacking before the next trigger point occurs. (And hopefully there is another trigger point, or the glitches become really bad.)

Ive observed several times that when I am near a sound source and open my inventory that the sound will disapear. Ive not done any extensive testing to find out every detail, but I have found that if you go into the esc menu and alter your sound there, and then alter it again the same way the sounds come back.

Its possible, especially since you were in an exterior cell, that youve experienced something similar without realising it. Try that little experiment though and see if it has an effect.

I always hear every other sound I expect to hear. But you may be on to something in suggesting there may be some kind of glitch. I tried once to look around in the CS, but was unable to make heads or tails of it. I'll try again, but I was hoping someone adept at the CS might already know the score on the Ayleid Well sounds.
