This might be what the Gauss Rifle in Anchorage is based off of

That could be!

The Gauss rifle would be multiple coils to compensate for the length of the barrel.

The handgun at that site shoots single shots. The projectile could be put in the barrel just like the old blunder bust's were.

Railguns are different. Both use magnetism, but Gauss weapons in particular use them in a coil fashion. Yes, the Gauss rifle from Anchorage is indeed based on actual Gauss technology. It's highly unlikely that Bethesda randomly made up an already well known technology, after all.

The railgun has two lines on opposing sides off the barrel. A rail on it each side of the barrel that runs their charge in opposite directions. If the bundles on the Op Anchorage did not look like coils wrapped in a way so they surround the barrel I would agree that the rifle is a Railgun instead. I'm inclined to agree that it is a Gauss Rifle.
