I picked up Dark Messiah a while ago and beat it several times with a couple different endings.

The enviroment was beautiful and the combat was sick as hell.

Anyone familiar with that particular game engine?

Or even ever played it?

I have the game but just haven't got around to playing it much yet. When it starts up at the menu screens there's this annoying flickering that makes me think maybe I need a different video card for it. I'm just afraid to run it for too long because it makes me feel like it's very unstable.

Yes! This is an amazing game, well worth playing.

It isn't the most stable of games though, no. It had an annoying habit of crashing for me, and sometimes it took around 5 minutes to load a level. And it won't even start the game for me now.

But when it works, it is definitely one of the better games I've played.

I've just got it and was enjoying it until that woman your supposed to protect started getting herself killed. I really don't like escort missions in games, even worse are escort missions in games with wonky AI.

Oh yes. Awesome game, I love the combat
It's extremely fun to kill some dude, pick him up and throw him into some spikes, then pull him off the spikes and kick him into them again.
Or play football with a decapitated enemys head.

Haha yes indeed all very good points.

Yea the game is a tad unstable at times. Id play it now but my little brother destroyed the disk (EVIL!)

I wish we could see a massively open rpg with Dark Messiahs engine. Though the AI was a bit wonky, I have seem worse lol.

My opinion is that the game was too short. I beat it in one weekend. Though I replayed it several times, and would still. Its pretty short.
Being sneaky assassin was my favorite.
Grab the enemy from behind, plunge you dagger into his neck, wrench it open and toss him aside.
Oh I had so much fun killing my foes with shadow tactics haha,

Yeah, trying to keep that girl alive is a right pain. I left her to die at the first possible opportunity and just stayed evil for the entire game :P

Harabec, I was under the impression it used the Source engine - though modified somewhat of course. An open-world game could be interesting, but tbh I think a linear game would work just as well, if not better. As for combat... I just forged myself a really awesome flamey sword which set fire to stuff and murdered everyone I ran into with it. Much simpler than trying to sneak around everywhere :P

I downloaded it through steam, think you have to and it was wuite stable for me, even used a trainer at one point, nothing like continually kicking someone into a wall :)
but a worth while game as long as you dont mind really annoying side kicks for part of it although it did have na interetsting sotryline if not original and some nice extras

Dark Messiah, Got it off Steam, love it, never a problem)touch wood) That an Arx Fatalis, on Steam two older games, I pull out a play, now and again, never any problems with them...
Whoever mentioned that flashy thing, I had that with a demo game I downloaded from Steam fixed it by turning off AA..

IMO those two game Dark Messiah and ARX Fatalis will never lose their charm..

Dark Messiah - Might and Magic?

I forgot about that game! I bought it, was all into it for a while, and then Oblivion came out...
