I assume they are alien /human hybrids and therefore the bobby pins where on the human side of the "experiment" , much in the same way as ghouls carry them ,a last vestige of humanity...or a nefarious past...

I believe the question is why they still carry them around? Ghouls have pockets they probably don't empty but abominations would actually have to carry their stuff around.

This is fair enough but Feral ghouls carry bobby pins around with them as well, I thought that another question would be, where in the hell would naked ghouls or abominations keep items like bobby pins!?
