Putting an old disk in RAID or not? Will it mess-up the OS-Boot?

I recently bought a 1 TB sata disk to replace my 160 Gb (also sata) system disk.
I had a 80 Gb (IDE) disk as backup, spare disk, or as another OS etc...But now I'll replace that with my old system disk of 160 gb.

Now that (IDE) disk was originated from another (my old) pc, which has the same 80gb too that used to be both together in RAID.
My parents didn't really need all that space, so I put it in mine.
Now I want to put it back in RAID, because it provides a little boost to the performance. Now the big question.
If I set so, would it screw up the OS-Boot? Removing it on my newer system did, because I had some settings I could disable without IDE...
(I already reinstalled once to get in on the newest disk, but I had to do again when I removed the IDE disk + its settings...)

I will try out with and backup all eventually. But I want to know anyway, because installing all their programs would keep me busy for 2 days...or would it 'just' add the 80 gb to their current setting...?

Any advice will be appreciated :).

I think both disks need to be blank to be put in a RAID array, but I'm not 100% sure.

Incidentally, I may have misunderstood, but are you saying you want to put an 80gb disk and a 160gb disk in a RAID array? Because if you do, itll only be as big as the smallest disk, so you'll be wasting 80gb of space.

No they are exactly the same.. both 80 GB.. I was already afraid they will have to be blank to be set in RAID..
I think I'll just reinstall everything in the weekend.
