I like Dark Elves because I find them easier to work with because I like having a thief/mage/warrior class. They are more neutral to be anything you want, but they are better warriors and mages then they are thiefs in my opinion.

When I play the standard races, I tend to play the nords, argonians or dark elves. Mainly because Dark Elves are versatile, nords are strong fighters and beast races such as the argonians are a lot more fun to play.

Dark Elves....seem to fit the whole stealthy thing I go for in most of my characters.

I've had characters from all ten races. I think I'll eventually have a male and female representative from each race. I voted Nord since that was the first race where I completed both characters. All of the races are fun and each character is unique.

In the long run, all the races even out in terms of game mechanics and play style. I'd have to judge based on appearance. Orcs look sweet when running around bare-chested with a Big Ass Axe™, but the Dunmer look good just about all the time if you use a good head. However, right now I'm using the hottest Nord ever. I'll post a picture of her later.

I'd have to say either Dark Elves or Nords.

For a starting character, nothing beats an Imperial. Especially with The Lady as a birth sign. You can have everyone eating out of your hand after just a little admiration, and disposition gets you everywhere. Not to mention the Voice of the Emperor if you decide not to take The Lady, or if you're dealing with an especially stubborn individual.

I pick Argonians since I despise Elves and most of the human faces are terribly ugly.

Generally I make a character who can leap over mountains and sprint halfway across Yvardenfell before taking a break, deafening anyone he passes by with a sonic boom. It just makes the game so much more pleasant if you can run from most wilderness fights and don't have to walk around the scenery.

It really depends which aspect of the game you are going to focus on. Im going to vote for either Imperial or Nord, as I only tend to focus on the fighting side of Morrowind. I'm not a big fan of the magic system that Morrowind uses, which means that most of the magic using characters are out for me.
